Taz? really? please help!

My boyfriends nickname as a child was Tasmanian Devil so he wants to name our son Taz! He already made a Facebook page and some friends even gave us some monogrammed things! :o The consensus seems split, some people really like it and others hate it. My boyfriend is from [name]England[/name] so I feel like those types of nicknames are common, [name]Baz[/name], Gaz, etc. What do you all think?

I think the important question is what do YOU think of the name? I think it is important for both parents to at least like the name of their child.

It’s not something I’d use myself, but I don’t think it’s the worst name ever either. Maybe it would work better as a nn for a longer name? Below are some names I think might work.
[name]Tadeas[/name]
[name]Tamas[/name]
[name]Thaddeus[/name]

Why not just use it as a nickname- for anything? It’s short for Tasmanian Devil, for God’s sake, and I can’t imagine you’re considering that. I think people sometimes forget that nicknames don’t have to come from the person’s given name. I, like many people, know someone nicknamed [name]Ginger[/name] who isn’t named [name]Virginia[/name]- it’s for her red hair. I know a [name]Michael[/name] called Tomato and an [name]Anthony[/name] [name]Jr[/name]. called [name]Bubba[/name] (I actually don’t know the story behind those two). I’d say just give him a name you want- [name]Tadeas[/name], [name]Andrew[/name], [name]George[/name], whatever- and call him Taz.

Thanks you guys, at first I was considering it but I really don’t want to use it now. The problem is, everyone is now calling him Taz and people think that is the name. My problem now is that a lot of names do not go with the last name. But I think I will leave that for another post.
Thanks for the input though!

Taz as a nickname is okay, but it isn’t fair to nickame someone based on their father rather than themselves. Let him earn his own nickname! Maybe Taz will fit, but I’m glad you wouldn’t actually name him that. People jumped the gun, its not your fault or your problem imo!
