Not short for [name]Theodore[/name] or [name]Edward[/name]… just plain [name]Teddy[/name]… Yay or Nay?
Nay. Give the kid some options.
Yay all the way!
[name]Love[/name] [name]Teddy[/name]! We live just outside [name]London[/name] and I know a few little Teddies, although I get the impression its more of a controversial choice in the States?
I do love [name]Theo[/name] also though!
I adore the name [name]Teddy[/name]. I have it on my list as a nickname for both [name]Theodore[/name] and [name]Edmund[/name]. I’m really not sure how it would work on its own though. There are a lot of nicknames that I think can work fine as full names, but unfortunately I don’t think [name]Teddy[/name]'s one of them and it needs something more substantial behind it. I don’t see any problems with it for a young child, but it’s not a particularly ‘grown-up’ name.
I love [name]Teddy[/name]! But as just a standalone name, no. If a hiring manager saw just [name]Teddy[/name] on a resume, could he or she take it seriously? I’m not sure. I’d err on the safe side and go with a fuller name.
Use it only as a nickname! (and even there, personally, I don’t really like it…)
I agree. [name]Love[/name] the name, but I think a grown man needs a serious name for situations like applying for jobs.
[name]Teddy[/name] is cute as a nickname, but I don’t think it’s substantial enough to be someone’s full name.
I like it!
No, it just won’t age well, I can’t imagine an 80 year old [name]Teddy[/name], sorry…
I’ve always loved [name]Teddy[/name], but faced the same conundrum: I don’t like the long forms it’s short for. So I really wish I could say “YES!” But I can’t see saddling a young man, or a grown man, with a name that will potentially seem baby-ish to him. If he keeps his nickname all his life, so be it. But if it doesn’t want to, then he’s got noplace to go but [name]Ted[/name]. [name]Imagine[/name] when he signs letters as CEO of some big company “[name]Teddy[/name]”…
It just seems to be one of those darling little boy nicknames that don’t grow up. Call him [name]Teddy[/name] but give him a more formal name to grow into!
[name]Edward[/name], [name]Edmund[/name], [name]Theodore[/name], [name]Edison[/name], or [name]Thomas[/name] [name]David[/name] (TD) or something like that.
I love it as a nickname but not as a standalone name.
I absolutely love [name]Teddy[/name] as a nickname, but not as a formal name.
Nay. It’s a bit of a childish name. Fine for a nickname, but he’ll need something more substantial (ie. [name]Edward[/name] or [name]Theodore[/name]) on his birth certificate.
I love [name]Teddy[/name] but ONLY as a nn.
I’d consider it as a nn for any variant of [name]Theodore[/name], [name]Edward[/name] and even [name]Edwin[/name].
