Teddy

[name_m]Hi[/name_m]!
I really like the name [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] (not [name_m]Ted[/name_m] and only kind of [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]). If you met a [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] would you think he was named after [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] [name_m]Roosevelt[/name_m]? What if they said they actually liked it more when they heard it on [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] from the movie Neighbors? Would you look down on them? Is it too childish for a full name?

No, I would assume it was a nickname for [name_m]Theodore[/name_m].

Never heard of “Neighbors”

It’s too connected to teddy bears to be a full name for me. I actually had a teddy bear named [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] as a child.

It’s used enough now that I wouldn’t assume a [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] [name_m]Roosevelt[/name_m] reference. I don’t know Neighbors, either.
If you’re interested in “long forms” other than [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], there’s [name_u]Thaddeus[/name_u] or any of the [name_m]Ed[/name_m]- names ([name_m]Edward[/name_m], [name_m]Edmund[/name_m], [name_m]Edgar[/name_m] etc.) You could also get creative with initials (T.E.D.)

I think here in the UK I’d assume he was just [name_u]Teddy[/name_u], possibly [name_m]Edward[/name_m] or [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] but [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] on its own is #32 here now so it wouldn’t surprise me at all.

In the US, I think it would definitely be unusual to use it as a standalone but I’d be more likely to think [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] [name_m]Bear[/name_m] than [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] [name_m]Roosevelt[/name_m] (although the two are connected!)

It is very childish but to me that kind of gives it a bit of edginess too. It feels cute but quirky and cool, and I think it works as a full name.

UK here so that’s not my first thought. I think [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] could start to be a stand alone name soon. Much like [name_u]Theo[/name_u] from [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and [name_u]Freddy[/name_u] from [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] are now becoming solo names from their longer versions. [name_f]My[/name_f] youngest middle name is actually [name_u]Theo[/name_u] and not [name_m]Theodore[/name_m].

Teddy is lovely. I wouldn’t assume he was named after anyone

I think [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] is adorable! I wouldn’t assume he was named after [name_m]Roosevelt[/name_m] and I’ve never seen Neighbors so I don’t have that association either. I might guess it was a nickname for [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] (or [name_m]Edward[/name_m]–that’s the full name of the [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] I’ve met!), but I really like the idea of it on its own!

Question 3) no

I adore [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] as a full name! I know a grown adult [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] and it works perfectly fine on him.

Love [name_u]Teddy[/name_u]!

I would name him [name_m]Theomund[/name_m] and call him [name_u]Teddy[/name_u]. Not keen on [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] myself. It reminds me of Eyeore.

I wouldn’t assume a [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] was named after [name_m]Roosevelt[/name_m] or [name_u]Cruz[/name_u] or teddy bears.

I’ve never heard of the movie Neighbors.

I love nicknames and would not look down on them.

I strongly prefer a longer name with a nickname myself. While many people are simply Teddys, many more would like the option of a longer name. But as nicknames go, it’s a super cool one!

i’m in the UK where as others have said [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] on it’s own is pretty popular and [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] [name_m]Roosevelt[/name_m] certainly wouldn’t be an initial association. I don’t think it’s too childish and they could always go by [name_m]Ted[/name_m] or even [name_m]Eddy[/name_m] if they wanted something more grown up as an adult :))

Hi there.

Teddy is super cute. But I do think that it’s too nick-namey on its own. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_m]Edward[/name_m] or [name_u]Thaddeus[/name_u] nn [name_u]Teddy[/name_u]? [name_m]Even[/name_m] [name_m]Edmund[/name_m], [name_m]Edgar[/name_m] or [name_m]Edwin[/name_m] could work too. I wouldn’t assume that he was named after [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] [name_m]Roosevelt[/name_m]. I wouldn’t assume that he was named after [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] from Neighbors either, but I love that movie. Wouldn’t look down on them at all!

Hope this helps.

I adore every [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] I have ever met ! I don’t assume [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] as some of the [name_u]Teddy[/name_u]’s I know are girls

Back to say that I remembered a [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] nn [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] in L.M. [name_u]Montgomery[/name_u]’s [name_f]Emily[/name_f] novels.

I love [name_u]Teddy[/name_u]. No I wouldn’t assume they were named after anyone/anything in particular. I like the Neighbors association! It’s fun seeing a name like [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] on [name_m]Zac[/name_m] [name_m]Efron[/name_m].

I wouldn’t assume he’s named after anyone and have heard [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] enough for it not to have a particular association. Though I do think [name_m]Ted[/name_m] is inevitable as a nickname asTeddy can be childish. Its sweet but I think he will go by [name_m]Ted[/name_m] in certain circles. I personally don’t love [name_m]Ted[/name_m] all that much. I personally would rather be a [name_u]Theo[/name_u] than a [name_m]Ted[/name_m]. I think by giving him a longer version he will have more nickname options but [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] is nice for when he is little or with family.

I would most likely assume it was a nickname for [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], (which isn’t bad seeing as that’s my favorite [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] nickname. ) [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] [name_m]Rosevelt[/name_m] would come to mind, although I wouldn’t assume he was named after him. [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] could easily be a full name, and it’s very cute. I think that [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] would age better as he could go by [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] as a child and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] (or another nickname) as an adult. It definitely still works on an adult though, it isn’t too childish

I wouldn’t think he was named after [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] [name_m]Roosevelt[/name_m], but I don’t like it as a full name. I just can’t see a teenager/young adult that would like being called [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] by everyone. I do like it as a nickname though. [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] is also a common nickname for [name_m]Edward[/name_m].

So I would assume [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] is short for [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] or [name_m]Edward[/name_m] if I met one.
