Would you say that this is a usable name? What comes to mind when you imagine a little girl or woman named Onyx?
It would be intended for a girl, although I feel like it could work for either. My husband is obsessed, and it is growing on me.
I really like the nickname Onnie.
I’m not really into other gemstone names. I do like Emerald. If I used another gemstone name, it would likely be that one. Or Jade. Maaaaybe Sapphire, but I don’t know if I like it enough to use it over other names.
I’m not a fan of Opal, Amethyst, Pearl, Ruby, etc.
I think it’s usable but im not too fond of it personally, it always makes me think of an ox . Beyond that, it also reminds me of the phrase “on it”.
I actually like [name_u]Onyx[/name_u] a lot!
I think [name_u]Onyx[/name_u] is cool, quirky and fun. I love the o and x sounds together I feel like the name feels futuristic despite of course having history behind it with [name_u]Onyx[/name_u] being a gemstone. I think [name_u]Onyx[/name_u] is completely usable! I prefer for boys as I think [name_u]Onyx[/name_u] feels boyish but definitely is gender neutral and would work for your daughter. I would also use a feminine more down to earth middle name like [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] or [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]. I can’t really picture someone called [name_u]Onyx[/name_u]. I think you would need to be cool to pull off [name_u]Onyx[/name_u] I for one wouldn’t suit [name_u]Onyx[/name_u] I’m wayyyy too bookish! Nevertheless as I say I think [name_u]Onyx[/name_u] would work especially with [name_f]Onnie[/name_f] as the nickname which is sweet.
Good luck & hope this helps
I love [name_u]Onyx[/name_u] for a girl, [name_f]Onnie[/name_f] is precious
Gemstone names in my opinion should be unisex anyways. [name_f]Emerald[/name_f] is one of my favorites, and I know a [name_f]Sapphire[/name_f].
[name_u]Onyx[/name_u] is lovely! Such a cool and distinct name!
It feels more masculine to me. For either boy or girl I would surmise that the family was Wiccan/Pagan, heavily into sci-fi/fantasy, etc. While it is technically a gemstone name, to me the aesthetic is much closer to [name_m]Obsidian[/name_m] or [name_u]Nyx[/name_u] than it is to [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] or [name_f]Emerald[/name_f]. I think “vampire prince.”
I think [name_u]Onyx[/name_u] is great. I like the nickname [name_f]Nixie[/name_f].
It feels very sleek and modern. I prefer it for a boy, but I think it has an intriguing sound regardless.
I think [name_u]Onyx[/name_u] is definitely usable. I have a hard time picturing it on an adult but that’s probably just bc it’s a “newer” name and I’ve never encountered a grown up [name_u]Onyx[/name_u].
