Can you use a longer version of a name to honour someone who only has the shortened version of said name ?
My dad is Terry and I prefer the Terence over Terry. And so does he? But I’m guessing this works right? Or does it seem odd.

I don’t think it’s odd at all! People shorten their names all the time so I don’t see why you can’t do the reverse and use the longer version of the name!
I think that is absolutely wonderful!
Other names that I think would honour your Dad [name_u]Terry[/name_u] would include :
[name_m]Thierry[/name_m]
[name_m]Terran[/name_m]
[name_m]Terrell[/name_m]
I think that [name_m]Terence[/name_m] absolutely works as an honor name for [name_u]Terry[/name_u]!
For sure it works! It’s a great way to honor your dad if you like it.
[name_m]Terence[/name_m] totally works!! It clearly honours while giving him a name of his own and one that you like
One more vote that this works, especially if your dad likes it too.
that definitely works, and isn’t weird at all! and i really like how your dad prefers Terence, too
Thanks all. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you feel like this is the best spelling too?
There is obviously
[name_m]Terrence[/name_m]
[name_m]Terance[/name_m]
[name_m]Terrance[/name_m] ?!
I think I’d go with [name_m]Terence[/name_m] or [name_m]Terrence[/name_m].
I think it’s sweet As for the spelling, I’d google all the variants and pick the one with the most results (=greatest likelihood of getting it right!).
