Terrible morning sickness -- distract me by helping with my list!

Hey berries,

I am early in my first trimester and have awful “morning” sickness (not sure why they call it that, it’s definitely more like “all day” sickness). Help distract me and get me excited about my baby, due in [name_f]May[/name_f]! I won’t know if it’s a boy or a girl for another 5+ weeks (via genetic testing), but everyone is telling me that my extreme nausea/vomiting makes a girl more likely. Probably more myth than anything, I know, but it’s fun to predict!

Anyway, help would be appreciated in coming up with some fresh new ideas for our baby name list.

Name that I love but DH has vetoed: [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], [name_f]Audrey[/name_f], [name_f]Saskia[/name_f], [name_f]Freya[/name_f], [name_f]Maeve[/name_f], [name_f]Stella[/name_f], [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], [name_f]Eloise[/name_f].
Names that DH loves but I have vetoed: [name_f]Zoe[/name_f], [name_u]Aspen[/name_u], [name_f]Chloe[/name_f], [name_f]Victoria[/name_f], [name_f]Selena[/name_f], [name_f]Natalia[/name_f], [name_u]Sydney[/name_u], [name_u]Sierra[/name_u].

Names on our mutual list (some I love more than him and vice versa):
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]
[name_f]Lila[/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f]
[name_u]Piper[/name_u] / [name_f]Pippa[/name_f]
[name_f]Astrid[/name_f]
[name_f]Juno[/name_f]

I think we have a frontrunner in mind ([name_f]Fiona[/name_f]), but I’d love other suggestions and opinions that might appeal to both of us. Would love a strong, spunky name that suits all ages, and not too common.

Thanks all!

I love [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] from your list!

Maybe:

Ingrid
[name_f]Agnes[/name_f]

I’m so sorry! [name_f]My[/name_f] mom suffered from that too, and I know it’s horrible.

Fiona is a gorgeous name!

[name_f]Frida[/name_f]
[name_f]Greta[/name_f]
[name_f]Linnea[/name_f]
[name_f]Anneliese[/name_f]

Thanks all for your suggestions! DH likes [name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u] and [name_f]Olive[/name_f], I like [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] and [name_f]Flora[/name_f] and [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] and [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] and [name_f]Greta[/name_f], and we both like [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] but worry it’s too popular (as is cousin [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]). DH is VERRRRRY picky about names, and I can’t really figure out his style so I never know what to suggest to him… So the more options we agree on, the better I guess!

From your list I love [name_f]Fiona[/name_f], [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] and [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]. I like the suggestions of [name_f]Flora[/name_f], [name_f]Willa[/name_f], [name_f]Olive[/name_f], [name_u]Willow[/name_u], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] and [name_f]Margot[/name_f]!

Anyways congratulations :tada::tada:

Fiona is a sweet little name and I love the Fi nickname as well. I also love [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] (this is on my own list), [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] & [name_f]Juno[/name_f]. But you’ve got a great list there all of those names are gorgeous! But my favourites are [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] & [name_f]Juno[/name_f].

Good luck

Hi there.

Here are my thoughts on your list:

Fiona-That beautiful angel in my profile picture is [name_f]Fiona[/name_f]. She’s the love of my life, so obviously I think it’s the best name ever! :dog:  :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: It’s strong, feminine, classic, smart, kind, simple but not over done.

Genevieve-I don’t mind this, but it’s not my cup of tea. Something about it is just a little stuffy. It does have cute nn options. I like [name_f]Gigi[/name_f], [name_f]Ginny[/name_f], [name_f]Evie[/name_f] & [name_f]Vivie[/name_f].

Lila-This is pretty. Simple, soft, smart, friendly. Not terribly popular, although there are a lot of Lilys & Laylas running around, so this does get sort of lumped in.

Phoebe-Super cute. It’s classic & charming. Simple & lovable. Not too popular, but well known.

Eliza-This is good. I kind of like [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] nn [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] more, but either way. It has sweet spunky vintage charm. I feel like it’s getting more common. Probably because of [name_m]Hamilton[/name_m].

Piper/Pippa-I don’t care for [name_u]Piper[/name_u]. It has an unpleasant sound to me. It’s trendy & hard to picture on an adult. [name_f]Pippa[/name_f] is kind of cute, but better as a nn for [name_f]Philippa[/name_f]. That seems more sophisticated.

Astrid-I don’t love this one that much. It sounds kind of heavy to me, & a little pretentious.

Juno-This is fun. It’s polished yet hippie-ish at the same time. I also like [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] nn [name_f]Juno[/name_f] even more, since [name_f]Juno[/name_f] is kind of short.

Ohh, I feel for you  I remember this stage vividly. No one can quite prepare you for the daily grind of feeling absolutely awful for every waking moment for weeks.

On the plus side, you have a fantastic list! I honestly love them all, and I think [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] is a great frontrunner. It feels like an overlooked classic — strong, interesting, quietly quirky but still traditional.

I’m just going to throw out some ideas that your list puts me in mind of. Please consider repeats seconded!

I love your list!

My favorites from your mutual list are [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] (only if you’re pronouncing it the [name_u]French[/name_u] way, though!), [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], and [name_f]Juno[/name_f]!
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] is a name that I’ve loved for a long time, and it seems like the ultimate name for every age- I can picture it on a birth announcement, a giggling toddler, a page of algebra homework, or a resume!
[name_f]Juno[/name_f] is harder for me to picture on an actual kid, but I just love the sound!
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] is probably my least favorite of the ones I listed, but it’s still a pretty name.

Of course, if [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] is your frontrunner then don’t let us change your minds!
Suggestions:
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]- I think that this could really fit with both of your styles because it’s got the same feel as your names but is more popular like your husband’s names.
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]
[name_f]Luna[/name_f]

Lyra
[name_f]Sienna[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_f]Leora[/name_f]
[name_f]Elodie[/name_f]
[name_f]Willa[/name_f]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]

Fiona, [name_f]Lila[/name_f] and [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] are my favorites! [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] could work as a middle for any of them.

Thank you all, these are some really wonderful suggestions.

I love [name_f]Daphne[/name_f], [name_f]Zara[/name_f], [name_f]Elodie[/name_f], [name_f]Ginevra[/name_f], [name_f]Gwen[/name_f], [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], [name_f]Willa[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], [name_f]Tessa[/name_f], [name_f]Freya[/name_f], [name_f]Maren[/name_f], [name_u]Vivian[/name_u], [name_f]Iona[/name_f], [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f], [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_f]Mabel[/name_f], [name_f]Esther[/name_f], [name_f]Flora[/name_f], [name_f]Clementine[/name_f], [name_f]Hazel[/name_f].

I want to love and can’t quite figure out why I don’t love [name_f]Margot[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], and [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]!

Thanks, you’ve all given me some great new ideas to think about!! As of right now, none of them make my heart sing quite as much as [name_f]Fiona[/name_f], but I have a long several months ahead of me to keep thinking on it

It’s such a shame your husband has vetoed so many of your names, they’re all so nice! [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and [name_f]Freya[/name_f] were extremely high on our list for our daughter.

[name_f]Astrid[/name_f] and [name_f]Juno[/name_f] on your shared list are both just gorgeous; they’re two of my absolute favourites. I don’t think you can possibly go wrong with either!

I actually would have used [name_f]Juno[/name_f] for my daughter if my partner had liked it. I almost used it for her middle but we instead went for [name_u]June[/name_u].

BTW, I had a girl (obviously) and had no morning sickness so I feel that supposed correlation is a bit of a myth. Sorry!

@TDFM: From the research I read, it’s obviously not a perfect correlation, but some studies show that women with severe nausea/vomiting of pregnancy and/or hyperemesis gravidarum are statistically more likely to have XX fetuses than XY. But to your point, I don’t think that there is any research the other way around, saying that women without morning sickness are more likely to have XY than XX. So your anecdotal experience does not necessarily contradict the research I read  Plus obviously there are many many many women with horrible morning sickness who have boys, so it’s really just fun speculation at this point! And girl names are more fun to think about

I also love love love [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] and [name_f]Juno[/name_f], I think a bit more than my DH does unfortunately. He is worried that they are a bit too “out there” in the US where we live. If I may ask, what name did you end up going with for your daughter?

We ended up going with [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] I hope you find some middle ground with your husband, it can be really tough agreeing on the right name for a child!

my little cousin is a [name_f]Pippa[/name_f] and i think it’s so cute

@TDFM: [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] name!! Congratulations!!

@Elliiee: I do love [name_f]Pippa[/name_f]! Is her full name [name_f]Pippa[/name_f] or is it short for anything?

her full name is [name_f]Pippa[/name_f]!
