So, at nearly 37 weeks we have finally found our baby boy name…
[name]Otto[/name] [name]Cornelius[/name]
My husband came up with [name]Cornelius[/name] a while ago but I just couldn’t get my head around it for a first name as it is a little long winded and I didn’t particularly like any of the shortened versions. It wasn’t until I read the nameberry pics about names with O in them that [name]Otto[/name] really stood out (I think the pic of the sweet little boy helped too!) Since then, we’d been thinking of it as as second name to one of our plethora ideas of firsts but, last night I said how much I loved the sound of [name]Otto[/name] as a first name and my husband agreed. Yay!
I’d be interested in what you think. I checked the UK stats for both names and, for now, they’re both quite rare. Fingers crossed they’ll stay that way!
Anyway, any thoughts and ideas would be great. Especially positive ones!!
Been through: [name]Arthur[/name], [name]Jem[/name], [name]Elijah[/name] (not nearly so popular here in the UK), [name]Hugo[/name], [name]Zachariah[/name]
I don’t often see the name [name]Cornelius[/name] mentioned anywhere (including here on Nameberry!) so I’ll give you a thumbs up. [name]Otto[/name] isn’t my favourite “O” name but I do like it. [name]Otto[/name] [name]Cornelius[/name] looks and sounds good together so if you and your husband love it then I would encourage you to use it! Sure, it’s not going to be to everyone’s taste but YOU have to love the name because YOU have to live with it.
I like [name]Otto[/name] a lot! I think that it’s very stylish. I’m not as completely in love with [name]Cornelius[/name], but I think that it works especially well in the middle spot. There’s something very dignifed about it. Overall I think it’s a great choice!
[name]Ah[/name] thanks everyone. It’s taken a while, but [name]Cornelius[/name] has grown on me. [name]Just[/name] not as a first name as I think standing in the supermarket calling him might sound a little pretentious. And if I said [name]Corny[/name] I’d get some very weird looks (well I would in the UK!) My five year old is called [name]Oscar[/name] so I was a little concerned about the closeness with [name]Otto[/name] but then I’ve worked out that it might actually work out really well as I often find myself starting out with the wrong first part of name when I’m speaking with my boys. Therefore I’ll have time to turn it into the right name and my nameslexia(!) will go unnoticed:-)
“[name]Love[/name] [name]Otto[/name] and [name]Cornelius[/name], and together they equal awesome! Also love [name]Otto[/name] and [name]Oscar[/name]!” - Thanks Caramichelle. I was a bit concerned about having an [name]Otto[/name] with already having an [name]Oscar[/name] but you’ve made me look at it in a new light… [name]Otto[/name] and [name]Oscar[/name] do sound good together!
Thank you very, very much!! It’s taken a while to find the perfect name/name combo but I’m so happy with it. He’s allowed to come out any time from now on:)
Though neither name is my style, that is not a euphemism for “I hate it”. I think it’s a great combination, sounds really good. [name]Will[/name] be cute on a little boy and handsome on a grown man
