I think a lot of berries know this already (or did at a certain point), but [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is ridiculously meaningful to me. It honors my grandmother in a way that it doesn’t for any other person in the world, and I love that special tie to her. I love the idea of keeping a [name_f]Lil[/name_f] name on my list at pretty much any given point because of her, but I can never seem to narrow it down to one option!
The ones I’m hung up on lately are [name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Lilia[/name_f], and [name_f]Lillian[/name_f]. If I used [name_f]Lila[/name_f], I probably wouldn’t count it as an honor name–it doesn’t sound like [name_f]Lily[/name_f], really, and I wouldn’t try to force [name_f]Lily[/name_f] as a nickname–but I always lump it in because I’ve loved [name_f]Lila[/name_f] for years and still swoon every time I see her outside of my own list. I love the classic feel of [name_f]Lillian[/name_f], and would’ve said she was my favorite [name_f]Lily[/name_f] name up until recently. I find her really hard to pair up, but I love, love, [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Lillian[/name_f]. But lately the dainty [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] has grown on me ridiculously much, and she’s definitely become [name_f]Lillian[/name_f]'s equal in my mind! I think she’d be easier to pair up, but I’ve not found a perfect combo yet.
WDYT of the three names? MN ideas for the best option? Which fits best with my other favorites in THIS list?
[name_f]Lila[/name_f] is beautiful and I adore the sound and visuals of it
[name_f]Lillian[/name_f] has grown on me recently - it has a kind of gentle grandeur to it that I really enjoy
[name_f]Lilia[/name_f] is absolutely gorgeous - it’s so delicate yet it feels so outdoorsy. I really like it, and of the three, I think it fits your list best - it feels classic and familiar with a modern twist - plus it shares the a ending and sweet look of [name_f]Lila[/name_f] and the sounds of [name_f]Lillian[/name_f]
[name_f]Lilia[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] ([name_f]Collette[/name_f]) came to mind or [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] [name_f]Margot[/name_f]
All are beautiful names! I’ve either never heard of [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] before or didn’t pay attention to it while glancing at names, but it’s lovely!
I love [name_f]Lilia[/name_f]!! It is easily my favourite of the three - I also believe it’s the least common too. My second choice would be [name_f]Lillian[/name_f]. I also like [name_f]Lilliana[/name_f] which would be another option.
[name_f]Lila[/name_f] is pretty and I do really like it however as you said it’s not directly honouring [name_f]Lily[/name_f].
Well, you know I’m Team [name_f]Lilia[/name_f]. Ordinarily I would say that [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] go better with your list, but recently I’ve noticed your taste start to branch out and get a little more international, a little sleeker, so I think [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] is actually a step in the right direction.
I think [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] is a little hard to pair with word names because it sounds like “lily a [word,]” but this can be avoided by sticking a third name in the middle. Something like [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u], [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] [name_f]Camille[/name_f] [name_u]Wren[/name_u] or [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Adele[/name_f] would be gorgeous.
[name_f]Lila[/name_f] is, by far, my favorite. I don’t think it any less similar than your other options in relative closeness to [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. And, like [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Lila[/name_f] has presence. It’s short, beautiful, and strong.
It makes me think of an old song about a [name_f]Lila[/name_f]. The [name_m]Night[/name_m] by Morphine. Really beautiful, jazzy, song.
I have a niece (in her mid-teens) named [name_f]Lilia[/name_f], & she’s the only [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] I’ve ever met. Her middle name doesn’t really go w/[name_f]Lilia[/name_f] or her last name flow-wise; my brother chose it to honor our paternal grandmother (who ironically hated her name & would have objected to [name_f]Lil[/name_f] getting the mn she did!). Generally she’s known as [name_f]Lil[/name_f]…& her personality is definitely not a [name_f]Lily[/name_f] anyway.
I also have a much older cousin named [name_f]Lillian[/name_f], so for me that name is elderly rather than fresh. [name_f]Lila[/name_f] also has older overtones for me…I have the feeling that there was a book I read decades ago that had a character named [name_f]Lila[/name_f] in it & that’s why it seems not so appealing for a young person.
From your signature, I pulled some names & matched them w/[name_f]Lilia[/name_f]:
I do think you might be right about [name_f]Lila[/name_f] being a perfect name on her own, but not quite as an honor name for [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] is my favorite for you - sensible and beautiful, feminine but not frilly. [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] [name_f]Eva[/name_f] ____ would be so darling. [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] [name_f]Eva[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f], maybe? Hmm. Oh, [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] would be beautiful.
