The Beautiful Cytherea!

So, I hardly ever made any threads. Being a name nerd, I love to do some planning just like most of you guys, but I never want to make “fix plans”, so that’s why. I love many many names but this one is the name I always love and doubt at the same time. I would like to hear your opinions about [name_f]Cytherea[/name_f].

My questions are:

  1. It is even usable? Try to google it. My hearts sank! :frowning:
  2. Is it too matchy with my own name? My first name is [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f], and that was after [name_u]Artemis[/name_u]. [name_f]Cytherea[/name_f] was after [name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f]. [name_m]Both[/name_m] taken from the goddesses’ birthplaces and started with [name_m]Cy[/name_m]-.
  3. Which spelling do you prefer, [name_f]Cytherea[/name_f] or Cytheria?

There on my signature are some of my favourites names, I love various naming styles so please don’t say something like “It sounds so different with other names you love”.

Thanks,
[name_f]Cyn[/name_f]

I think it’s a beautiful name, and obviously the goddess rocks!

I’m on my phone so I’m not going to goggle the name, but I assume you’re referring to the adult movie actress? It wouldn’t bother me. First of all she’s really pretty. Her real name is Cassieardolla which is a fantastic name, which makes me think she must have amazing parents. Then I’m going to be controversial and say: what’s wrong with a porn star connection? What’s wrong with being a porn star? She looks clean, she looks like fun, she’s really pretty (seriously) and she must have amounts of confidence and guts to do what she does. I could write a novel about this but like I said, I’m on my phone. Talk to miss moon, her first daughter will be a Cytheria.

Anyway, gorgeous name!

Dear Otter, I know you will say that. No, I don’t think porn star connection is wrong or awful or whatever (and yes, she is pretty!), it is the nickname squirtwoman, etc that bothers me the most. I don’t even know about Cassieardolla. A unique and creative name, imo.

Thanks for the reply, btw.

I would have said it goes well with [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f], Belphoebe, [name_f]Laetitia[/name_f], or some of your others anyway.

Anyway, I like it, but I’m not a [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f]. I will say there’s a couple names I like very much that are so close to my own name I’d never use them.

I’d be fond of a connection that sounds more dissimilar. [name_f]Dianthe[/name_f], perhaps. Connected via [name_u]Artemis[/name_u]. Or another mythological place name without the [name_m]Cy[/name_m]- up front. But that’s just me for myself - I don’t have a real issue with other people naming kids after themselves even directly, and speaking in general terms not enough women do compared to men!

It does have a pretty sound. I hope you don’t find me harsh. I’m fond of a number of names with [name_f]Cilla[/name_f] or [name_f]Cinda[/name_f] sounds in them.

I sort of like the idea of it as a middle name.

[name_m]How[/name_m] did I miss this post before?

I prefer Cytheria. The transliteration from greek is Cythereia, so you can technically either drop the e or the i, and I just like the way the -ia ending looks a bit more.

I totally think this name is usable. So many awesome nn options! [name_m]Theory[/name_m] (personal favorite), Sith, [name_m]Cy[/name_m], Cyri, etc.

I also don’t have a problem with [name_f]Cytherea[/name_f] the porn star ( I used to a little bit but I am completely over it now) - she’s had a very successful career! Also try googling her with SafeSearch turned on - much more geeky fantasy nerdiness and mythology!

I actually think it would be a cool way to have a [name_m]Jr[/name_m]. since your name is [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f] - plus you can read about goddesses and mythology together and learn how awesome both your namesakes are!

But Miss [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] is correct, of course, this [name_m]WILL[/name_m] be my first daughter’s name - in fact, I have had quite a bit of trouble coming up with any other name I like even half as much.

Lol. This is a very old thread. Thanks for replying though.

Actually I prefer [name_f]Cytherea[/name_f] spelling to reduce the similarity (you know, same [name_m]Cy[/name_m]- and -ia). I’m not a fan of matchy, [name_m]Jr[/name_m]., or honoring myself kind of name, but [name_f]Cytherea[/name_f]/Cytheria is so pretty I think I want to make an exception. Same rule with [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] (my mn is [name_f]Angelina[/name_f]) but this one is a first name so it’s giving me more “inner conflict”. :stuck_out_tongue:

Also, thank for SafeSearch idea, believe it or not, I never tried that one.

@stripedsock: Thanks, and no, I don’t find you harsh at all. Of course I’ve consider it as a middle name too, just trying how it sounds as a first.

c@29, well…only a month old, lol. [name_f]Cytherea[/name_f] is the more common transliteration, anyway. Either way, it might look a little similar to [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f] but when you say the two names out loud I don’t really hear it.

I love [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], too! Sooo pretty. You have some awesome names in your sig, too - I especially like [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f], [name_f]Lyra[/name_f], [name_m]Hermes[/name_m](I’ve been vetoed on this one for a boy already), [name_u]Orion[/name_u] (also vetoed), and [name_m]Kellan[/name_m]
