The Fourth?

We need some help. [name_m]Just[/name_m] recently found out we are expecting and we’re already running into a name problem. My husband legally (at least on paper) is not the III, but if we have a son we are contemplating using the suffix IV. My husband is [name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]Sylvester[/name_m] [name_m]Johnson[/name_m] and goes by [name_m]Sly[/name_m] with friends and is [name_m]Charles[/name_m] or CJ at work, his dad uses every possible nickname for [name_m]Charles[/name_m] and his grandfather went by [name_u]Lucky[/name_u]. Our problem is what would our son go by? Are there any decent nicknames for the fourth?

You could always just put ‘young’ or ‘little’ in front of his father or grandfather’s nicknames, the only different nickname I can come up with is [name_u]Silver[/name_u]

[name_m]Vester[/name_m] or [name_f]Charli[/name_f]

“Quadie?”
Cube?
Quatro?
Q?
Tetra is fourth in Greek, what about Tetro?
Since IV is the [name_m]Roman[/name_m] numeral for 4, why not just call him IV (rhymes with GIVE)?

[name_f]Ivy[/name_f]? After the [name_m]Roman[/name_m] numerals? Or [name_m]Ives[/name_m]?

There’s a character in my book who used something similiar, he’s the fifth in a line of [name_m]Jarvis[/name_m]'s, making him [name_m]Jarvis[/name_m] the Fifth or [name_m]Jarvis[/name_m] V.

He’s known as Javey (jay-vee).

Thank you for your replies.

littleredone: Surprisingly my hubby likes [name_u]Silver[/name_u], he’s usually really picky.

divine1: We talked about the “Q” name possibilities and the only one he liked was [name_m]Quade[/name_m] transformed to [name_u]Kade[/name_u]. We also looked at Iv, [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], [name_m]Ives[/name_m] and [name_m]Ivan[/name_m] but [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] sounds girly and we have a friend who goes by [name_m]Ivan[/name_m] which makes the others seem a little strange. [name_u]Haven[/name_u]'t thought of Tetra/o, will have to ask hubby about that one.

renrose: I kinda like the idea of smooshing the first and suffix, but that comes up with Chiv or Chive, haha. Doubt Hubby will like that, even if I think it’s cute.

I know a little boy who is the fourth and he goes by [name_u]Drew[/name_u] for quaDRUple. I really like it. If you wanted to be more literal with the spelling you could spell it [name_u]Dru[/name_u] instead.

Best of luck!

Does anybody have anything else we might not have thought of?

This is crazy I know but my aunt and uncle and now my cousin have done it because we are on the fourth and fifth on one side and fourth on another. On the regular side they picked just the nn [name_u]Hunter[/name_u] [name_m]Hunt[/name_m] for short who now has a bro [name_u]Chase[/name_u] note irony “[name_m]Hunt[/name_m] and [name_u]Chase[/name_u]”. But my more creative aunt, well uncle really decided to use the number four and take one of the greats to wear that number and that is what my cousin goes by same thing with the newest addition, the fifth . Some of fourth’s examples they chose from were all sports obviously but [name_u]Lou[/name_u] [name_m]Gehrig[/name_m], [name_m]Hank[/name_m] [name_m]Aaron[/name_m] (they choose [name_m]Aaron[/name_m] btw), or [name_u]Bobby[/name_u] Orr.

We have good friends where the husband is [name_m]Henry[/name_m] IV and their son is [name_m]Henry[/name_m] V. All the [name_m]Henry[/name_m]'s have only gone by [name_m]Henry[/name_m] (sometimes they will say [name_m]Henry[/name_m] 4 or [name_m]Henry[/name_m] 5). So I think you can use something your husband or his father has used.
