DH and I are at an impasse.
We are still in the discussion phase of if we even are going to try for #4.
Still, we love talking baby names and we are debating over names that share a common nickname that we love “[name_f]Della[/name_f]” (but don’t want to use as the full name)
His favorite and the one he says is IT for him: [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] (I can’t shake the [name_f]Buffy[/name_f] mean girl association)
Her big siblings are [name_u]Liam[/name_u] [name_m]Anthony[/name_m], [name_f]Rosaline[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] (rhymes with queen), and [name_m]Simon[/name_m] [name_m]Patrick[/name_m]
Our last name sounds like Richter
Cordelia gets my vote! It goes well with her older sibling names. Next would be [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] and [name_f]Delilah[/name_f]. I love [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] but it shares that ‘ine’ ending with [name_f]Rosaline[/name_f].
I love [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] with your other children’s names, followed by [name_f]Delilah[/name_f]. I agree with a PP that [name_f]Delphine[/name_f]’s ending sounds too close to [name_f]Rosaline[/name_f].
I think all of those options go nicely with your children’s names. [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] is lovely but if you have negative associations, I’d take it off the list and focus on the others.
Adelaide seems like the best stylistic fit to me. It’s classic with a long history of use but also fresh feeling and not overused. This is my #1 choice for you.
Delia and [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] are both fresh and fun and very naturally shorten to [name_f]Della[/name_f] (whereas [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] might be a bit more of a stretch). I’m going to go with [name_f]Delia[/name_f] for my #2 and [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] for my #3 but it’s a very close thing! [name_f]Delia[/name_f] pipped it purely because it’s a bit more unexpected and timeless.
Delphine is gorgeous – my personal fave from the list – but I agree with @cactusgram’s hesitations over the repeated ending sounds. It’s not a dealbreaker but I’d favour the other options for this reason. It’s my #4 for you but it is such a stunning name.
Your older 3 are expertly named kids! I just adore their names !!!
I love [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] with [name_u]Liam[/name_u] ,[name_f]Rosaline[/name_f], and [name_m]Simon[/name_m]!
Della/ [name_u]Del[/name_u] would name such a seeet addition!
Ok, random observation. The [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] character in [name_f]Buffy[/name_f] wasn’t just a mean girl… she was actually kind of a cool character! But I don’t think she was meant to be liked I guess.
Adelaide or [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] are the best fits from your list, I think. I agree with pp’s hesitation over the repeated endings of [name_f]Rosaline[/name_f] and [name_f]Delphine[/name_f]. [name_f]Delia[/name_f] and [name_f]Della[/name_f] seem like two completely different names to me, and I don’t think [name_f]Della[/name_f] works as a nickname for [name_f]Delia[/name_f].
I love the name [name_f]Delphine[/name_f], but in this case, I think [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] fits the best with the other three names. I barely remember [name_f]Buffy[/name_f] and don’t think the association to the name is strong enough for people to immediately go there when hearing it.
Why not [name_f]Cordella[/name_f]? It’s a name in its own right, gets to [name_f]Della[/name_f] more easily and avoids your negative association.
I don’t associate [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] with that (in fact I don’t even know what it is!) but I totally get it – Associations have ruined many otherwise-good names for me.
I like how none of your kids have the name first or last letter in their names & I would try to keep that if I were you – So that eliminated [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] & especially [name_f]Delphine[/name_f].
My vote goes to [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], it goes well with her sibling names. [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] fit in well too!
I like all of your options! You also might like [name_f]Odelia[/name_f], [name_f]Adelia[/name_f], [name_f]Adele[/name_f], [name_f]Edeline[/name_f], [name_u]Endellion[/name_u], or [name_f]Magdelene[/name_f]!
Delphine is my favorite! [name_u]Liam[/name_u], [name_f]Rosaline[/name_f], [name_m]Simon[/name_m] and [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] sound great together and [name_f]Della[/name_f] is a super natural nickname.
