The name Isom?

I was going through my family tree, and I came across the name of my great (x3) grandfather, [name]Isom[/name] [name]Arthur[/name]. I’ve never heard of his first name before, so I was curious, if you have, do you know how to pronounce it?

Or if you’re not sure, what would be your first instinct in how to say [name]Isom[/name]?

Where was his family from?

I would pronounce it “eye-som” or “is-om.” I can’t decide if I like the short “i” or long “i” sound better. My first thought was that it might be a variant of [name]Isham[/name]…

On that branch, British/Scottish, mainly.

[name]How[/name] is [name]Isham[/name] said, like ish-im?

I’ve heard “ish-am” and “is-ham.” In the second pronunciation there’s not really a “sh” sound, which is what made me draw the line between [name]Isham[/name] and [name]Isom[/name]. A Google search showed that there does seem to be some sort of connection between the two names. [name]Isom[/name] is also a surname, if that helps.

That is helpful, thanks!
