What’s your opinion of the name [name]Salem[/name]?
I know of two girl Salems one just spelled [name]Salem[/name] and one spelled Saylem. (do you prefer one spelling over another?)
I think the more you use the name the more you start to like it.
The original meaning of [name]Salem[/name] is peace and I think the cat from [name]Sabrina[/name] The Teenage Witch and The cigarette brand are old enough that kids today wouldn’t connect them. I personally like the name, although I most likely wouldn’t name a child this. What are your thoughts on the name? Could it ever be a spunky and different girls name or is it always doomed to be compared with the witch trials and pet cats?
Also, what middle names would you pair with [name]Salem[/name]. :3
Sorry, but I never liked [name]Salem[/name] since it just reminds me of the [name]Salem[/name] Witch Trials. I also think of [name]Sabrina[/name].
It just reminds me of cats and witches.
It could grow on me! My sister watched Days Of Our Lives so thats what I thought of right away!
Preferred Spelling: [name]Salem[/name]
What are your thoughts on the name? I have it on my list for a girl even though my name is [name]Sabrina[/name]. I even have it as a possible future [female] cat’s name if I don’t use it for a child. I know [name]Salem[/name] the cat was male, but I’d prefer female animals.
Could it ever be a spunky and different girls name or is it always doomed to be compared with the witch trials and pet cats? Most would think of the latter, but I don’t think that’s bad [[name]IMO[/name]]
Middle Names: I like [name]Salem[/name] Halloween…lol only if I had a child on Halloween would I use that probably but I love it.
hahah thats immediatley what i thought too, [name]Sabrina[/name] the Teenage Witch
I prefer it on a boy, as I’ve only ever heard it for boy. I like it a lot, and have it on my list. I suppose it works as a girl’s name, too. I knew a [name]Salem[/name] growing up, and nobody ever teased him about the witch trials or the cat. If we use it, we’ve thought of pairing it with [name]Everett[/name].
I really love [name]Salem[/name] (boy or girl) but I have trouble getting past [name]Sabrina[/name]'s cat
[name]Salem[/name] is a biblical city mentioned in [name]Genesis[/name]. I also love [name]Shiloh[/name], another biblical place name now associated with someone’s pet
Since it’s unisex and uncommon you may want to go with a common feminine mn
[name]Salem[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]
[name]Salem[/name] [name]Seraphine[/name]/a
[name]Salem[/name] [name]Annabel[/name]
[name]Salem[/name] [name]Olivia[/name]
[name]Salem[/name] is a very nice name and nice to hear, but it’s looks a Muslim’s name.
First I think [name]Salem[/name] witch trials. Next I think [name]Salem[/name], Massachusetts. Lastly I think, [name]Salem[/name] the cat from ‘[name]Sabrina[/name] the Teenage Witch’. Not a good idea for a name in my opinion.
The [name]Salem[/name] Witch Hunts were a terrible and violent time in American history. It was a period of mass hysteria and religious extremism. A large majority of the people who were hanged were women. [name]Young[/name] female children were also victims. Giving any child this name is beyond my comprehension. I highly doubt that the parents of these two girls chose the name to “honour” the victims of the witch hunts. They probably picked it for the way it sounds. [name]Just[/name] because a name sounds cool (I’m thinking of you, [name]Messiah[/name] and [name]Lucifer[/name]) doesn’t make it appropriate.
I completely agree with [name]Mischa[/name].
Me too. I can’t get over [name]Sabrina[/name] and the Witch Trials. My cousin is named after one of the girls in the [name]Salem[/name] Trials … Exact same name (first, middle and last) but, for safety I won’t post which one of the girls it was.
I like the sound of the name, and I even like the supernatural appeal to it. But like [name]Mischa[/name] said, the witch trials were terrible and the name [name]Salem[/name] seems tainted because of it. I would never use it.
I really love [name]Salem[/name], and actually I’m glad you’ve reminded me of it because I’m looking for new names for my boys list! I think [name]Salem[/name] from [name]Sabrina[/name] the Teenage Witch would be my first association, then the witch trials, but I don’t have a problem with either of these (in fact, I think the latter is quite interesting!).
In terms of it as a girls name, I really don’t personally like it myself (or any boys names for girls) but I think it could definitely work (with the original spelling) based on the sound. I’d definitely pair it with a very feminine middle name if I were you, something like [name]Salem[/name] [name]Carolina[/name], [name]Salem[/name] [name]Olivia[/name], [name]Salem[/name] [name]Annabelle[/name], [name]Salem[/name] [name]Elisabeth[/name], [name]Salem[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name] or [name]Salem[/name] [name]Penelope[/name].
No way! Boy or girl, I just think witch trials. There are so many beautiful names out there- why choose one that everyone will associate with such a dark time in American history?
100% [name]Sabrina[/name]'s cat for me too.
Some good reading before you consider [name]Salem[/name].
To me, [name]Salem[/name] doesn’t work as a name for the same reason I wouldn’t name a child Auschwitz. The name on it’s own isn’t unpleasant to the ear, but it’s so inextricably interwoven with such a terrible and horrifying series of events. I think it has too much baggage to put on a child.
I’m not a fan of [name]Salem[/name]. I just think of the [name]Salem[/name] Witch Trials/[name]Sabrina[/name], and it’s also the capital of Oregon which is right below [name]Washington[/name], so it’d never work for me personally.
