[name_f]Zelda[/name_f] is one of my favorites, so I voted for that. I feel like every 3rd baby I meet is named [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], so meeting a [name_f]Zelda[/name_f], [name_f]Astrid[/name_f], or [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] would be so refreshing.
[name_f]Zelda[/name_f], [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] or [name_f]Freya[/name_f] for me!
I still love [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] for you because it’s the name I still remember you talking about two years ago; it’s also my favourite from the list.
[name_f]Astrid[/name_f] I find a bit too harsh (and it’s also quite dated here but that obviously doesn’t affect you, just my opinion), it’s not a bad name but I think it might be difficult to wear.
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f] is a name that I never disliked but somehow it lacks oomph
[name_f]Freya[/name_f] is a lovely name that I can see the appeal of but never really liked and am a bit tired of after seeing it 3 million times on here (of course it’s different in the world out there)
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] is nice, I like the nn [name_f]Liv[/name_f], to me it just sounds like the 2000s name, it’s always been in the top 500 (US) but it has shot up so much in the last 20 years and then it just has that 2000s name vibe to it; feminine, ending in -a, frilly but not sugar-y sweet; it belongs in the “[name_f]Isabella[/name_f], [name_f]Ava[/name_f], [name_f]Emily[/name_f], [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]”-Club and while all these names are different, they evoke the exact same imagery at this point
[name_f]Zelda[/name_f] - I’ve never played video games but this still reminds me too much of “[name_u]Legend[/name_u] of [name_f]Zelda[/name_f]”, the other thing it makes me think of is the name belonging to the daughter of a [name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u] hipster, even though it is an old name, it sounds too otherworldly for me to work in a “normal” sibset (say [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] or [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] and [name_m]Leo[/name_m]), instead [name_f]Zelda[/name_f]'s siblings would have names like [name_u]Indigo[/name_u]
[name_f]Astrid[/name_f]-This is one of my favourite names, and the one I voted for. I also love [name_f]Aster[/name_f]/Astor but [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] appeals a little more for some reason. It feels very chic and sophisticated to me and that’s what I’ve always loved about it.
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]-I love [name_f]Fiona[/name_f], very sweet. But I do worry about the comparisons to Shrek especially with kids once she gets to school. I STILL hear [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]'s [name_m]Web[/name_m] jokes and I’m well and truly past my school days.
[name_f]Freya[/name_f]- I adore the name [name_f]Freya[/name_f]. I have a friend named [name_f]Freya[/name_f] and hadn’t ever heard it till I met her in high school. It feels quite pretty to me, in an intelligent way if that makes any sense. I see a very smart little girl pulling off this name.
[name_f]Lorelei[/name_f]- I don’t know if this is a selling point or not for you but I just finished watching [name_m]Gilmore[/name_m] Girls (better late than never) and so [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] will forever be associated with GG for me. And to be completely honest I wasn’t all that fond of the name till I watched the show and suddenly I was sneakily adding it onto my list. It has a similar feel to [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] for me, sophisticated. I also love all the possible nicknames, [name_u]Rory[/name_u], [name_f]Lori[/name_f], Lo.
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f]- I loved [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] as a child, my middle name is [name_f]Frances[/name_f] and I’ve always detested it so I told people in primary school my middle name was [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] instead. It is pretty popular at the moment but it’s such a beautiful name I’m inclined to say it doesn’t matter. And again, the nicknames are adorable. [name_f]Olive[/name_f], [name_f]Liv[/name_f], [name_f]Livvy[/name_f], [name_u]Ollie[/name_u].
[name_f]Zelda[/name_f]- Probably my least favourite on the list. I’m not a big [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] fan and I can’t help think of the video game. I much prefer [name_f]Stella[/name_f] or [name_f]Tilda[/name_f] or [name_f]Willa[/name_f].
My top two on your list have to be [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] and [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f]. I can see why you’re having trouble choosing, they’re all such lovely names.
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]
[name_f]Lorelei[/name_f]
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f]
My favorite is [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]. I personally feel neutral are not fond of the others.
Thank you everyone for your thoughts and input – I’d love to hear more from more people.
@peacebird10: I too love [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] but know DH is hung up on the video game thing. He’s willing to “leave it on the list” because of it’s Germanic roots (I’m first [name_f]Gen[/name_f] [name_m]German[/name_m]-American). [name_u]Haven[/name_u]'t quite bothered to tell him that Germanic doesn’t = [name_m]German[/name_m]… lol. To me it sounds like it’s got great history and is spunky at the same time.
@katinka: [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] is on both of our lists and is almost certainly a front runner but you definitely picked out my additions to the list. Great minds…
@opheliaflora: Hiya love!! You are right [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] has been on my list for a long time. Still having nn issues as my favorite “[name_f]Lore[/name_f]” is also my DH’s aunts name and we see her at least once a week. I’d just like to go to the hospital with 3-4 names and get to meet her before we decide. (We also both equally like [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] but I just haven’t found other A name options we both like and as both he and I have A names it feel like it would become a thing…)
@charlottechar: DH really loves [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] (he hasn’t meet any little girls with the name - yet. I have two classmates who’ve used the name in the last two years). the popularity is really the thing that is my hang up. Unfortunately DH has an equally popular name and it doesn’t bother him at all… While I always hated being on of a number of [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] or Alexanders in a class. But thank you for the kudos and your lovely replies - they are pretty much on par with how I feel. Actually the fact that GG made [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] so popular (also we have a bit of a nn option issue… [name_u]Rory[/name_u] is to GG, [name_f]Lore[/name_f]/[name_f]Lori[/name_f] is already taken in the family, Lo nms, [name_f]Lola[/name_f] DH dislikes, etc. and this is our front-runner <sigh>).
@boyandgirls and @lovemysweeties: DH would be thrilled with your answers as those names are his top picks! (Well [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] is one of mine as well).
Then [name_f]Lore[/name_f] might not be the best nickname unless you really love that aunt…
Maybe leave the nickname up to time? Often a nickname just happens and then even if you did not like it before, it suits the child and just sounds that much sweeter now that it is associated with a tiny little baby.
Maybe it’d even be your husband who calls her [name_f]Lola[/name_f] or Lolie for the first time! Or maybe you’ll just call her by her full name 90% of the time and the rest are just pet names that have nothing to do with her name!
@opheliaflora: the nn thing is a good point. I am just a little concerned that we seem to currently have conflicts with 90%+ of the nn that have been suggested. As said [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] is probably still our fore runner.
