The new Atlas? 🌎

As recently as just couple years ago, I’ve had people tell me that Atlas was just too uncommon to use, too weighed down (pun intended) by the titan for a real boy, despite the fun, adventurous second meaning. Better suited as a fun middle. And yet, as I post my caf series featuring states’ top 100s, I see Atlas, after Atlas, after Atlas. It’s down-to-earth, boho, hipster, and mythological, and I’m afraid, it’s also become expected.

So I’m wondering what’s the next Atlas? Not necessarily on the charts, but for someone whose boy name style is pretty easily summed up by Atlas (apart from the spike in popularity), what could serve as his replacement?

[name_u]Or[/name_u] maybe something similiar in sound -Amos, [name_m]Aramis[/name_m], [name_m]Amias[/name_m]? [name_u]Or[/name_u] another mythological name -Apollo, [name_u]Orion[/name_u], [name_u]Zephyr[/name_u] or [name_m]Adonis[/name_m].

[name_m]Apollo[/name_m], [name_u]Everest[/name_u], [name_u]Wilder[/name_u] and [name_u]Zephyr[/name_u] too but I definitely see a lot of them already so it might not be long before they’re up there with [name_u]Atlas[/name_u]!

Going more uncommon, I’d love to see [name_m]Altair[/name_m] or [name_u]Aquila[/name_u] get more love

I think Cato shares a likeness to Atlas. It’s crisp and effortless with links to antiquity. I could see it gain favour with bohemian or alternative crowds.

Emrys shares an even stronger likeness. I think it has the potential for broader appeal. It starts with the fashionable ‘em’ sound and ends with the up and coming ‘s’ sound with ties to the Arthurian legends.

I wanted to use [name_u]Atlas[/name_u] for my first son years ago, before it was cool. We went with [name_u]Orion[/name_u] in the middle spot instead.

Keeping the sons of [name_m]Poseidon[/name_m] theme, Our second son got Antaeus in the middle and I think that’s a pretty undiscovered equivalent of [name_u]Atlas[/name_u]. It shares origins, mythology and sounds.

I can see it gaining popularity with NN potential and a really creative way to honor an [name_m]Anthony[/name_m].

@river_dweller for myself, I love [name_m]Cosmo[/name_m], [name_u]Arrow[/name_u], and [name_u]Finch[/name_u]! For the next [name_u]Atlas[/name_u] on the charts, I think you’re onto something with [name_u]Lyric[/name_u]!

[name_f]My[/name_f] best friend did give me some flack when I mentioned I liked the name though, so maybe not for mainstream just yet. @katinka [name_u]Arrow[/name_u] is lovely! I think all of those 4 have the same potential as Atlas—my best friend’s nephew has [name_u]Wilder[/name_u] as his middle name. [name_m]Altair[/name_m] is lovely!

@kachenka [name_u]Cato[/name_u] definitely has a trendy sound! Maybe the Hunger Games association has worn off enough to let him see more use. I love [name_m]Emrys[/name_m], definitely a great alternative!

@TDFM I was shocked to find two boys named [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] in my sister’s high school yearbook from this year! I still love the name. Also loving, [name_m]Oslo[/name_m], [name_u]Ocean[/name_u], [name_u]Cairo[/name_u], and [name_u]Pax[/name_u]!

I was thinking [name_u]Axis[/name_u]! It’s kind of out there, but I could definitely see it getting picked up as a trendy new boy’s name (Kinda like an [name_u]Axel[/name_u] / [name_u]Atlas[/name_u] combo)

I haven’t been able to stop thinking about this question! [name_u]Atlas[/name_u] has been at the top of our boy list for future #2 since [name_m]Silas[/name_m] got too popular, but now I cringe at how common it’s getting among the boho/earthy crowd.

I keep thinking [name_u]Ochre[/name_u] will take off at some point! And someone already suggested [name_u]Cedar[/name_u] which I love. Agree with [name_u]Cato[/name_u] and will add [name_m]Caius[/name_m]! It has the cool “Cai” nickname and the “us” ending that’s trending right now. I also think [name_m]Casper[/name_m] will fly up the charts in the next few years.

What about [name_u]Loki[/name_u]? I think that has potential, but then I haven’t seen the series so idk what impact that’s had on perception of the name.

So I think the new [name_u]Atlas[/name_u] will be Wilder/Wilde, [name_m]Cosmo[/name_m], [name_u]Everest[/name_u], [name_u]Onyx[/name_u] and maybe even [name_u]Axis[/name_u] I just see a lot of talk around these names like there was when [name_u]Atlas[/name_u] starting gaining lots of attention.

With [name_u]Axis[/name_u] I actually think this name would be an amazing alternative to [name_u]Atlas[/name_u] has the earth connection (with earth spinning on its axis), feels bohemian and down to earth, feels similar to [name_u]Axel[/name_u] which feels fashionable and I think the name looks visually pleasing.
