I agree, and also think that the ā€œlotteā€ in [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] looks much prettier than ā€œlettā€ somehow

@bemiranda for me, eva (ee-vuh) > emma >> eva (eh-va, ay-va)

@lilyofthevale i have a relative yvonne who goes by eve, so i definitely think it works ! the yva spelling makes a bit more sense, but it could work either way

@leafygreens i had to look abeloth up because i recognised the name, but couldn’t place where i’d heard it. i’d… heard of her ?? but i didn’t know immediately and even now my association is hazy at best

For me it’s [name_m]Osiris[/name_m] :relieved: it’s been on my list since I was like 12? I think the way I figured out this one my all time favorite was when instead of being excited about liking the name like I would a name crush, it started feeling almost comforting to me? It wasn’t as sparkly and shiny and new like it once was but I loved it just the same if not more, like it was meant for me.

And while I do consider [name_u]Kahlo[/name_u] to be my fav girl, I feel differently about her than I do [name_m]Osiris[/name_m]. [name_f]My[/name_f] love for her kind of wax and wanes, while I still always love her, at the moment [name_u]Izar[/name_u] is pretty much tied with her. I still absolutely adore her but not the same way I do with [name_m]Osiris[/name_m]

For me, it is [name_f]Athena[/name_f]. It always will be. I came across her a few years ago, I suppose 2018, and she’s been on my list ever since. I cannot think of taking her off the list or not naming my daughter (if I have one) that. Seeing [name_f]Athena[/name_f] always gives me joy. She actually started my obsession with names. Sure, she’s been causing a little bit of a problem when it comes to middles, but I would still never get rid of her.

For boys, it is [name_m]Edwin[/name_m]. I used to have [name_m]Alistair[/name_m] on my list because I love the alliterative initials he would have with [name_f]Athena[/name_f], and also because I used to have [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] / [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] on my list way back so it felt familiar. I did go through many other names, like [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] and [name_m]Edmund[/name_m], but [name_m]Alistair[/name_m] never really charmed me that way. I saw [name_m]Edwin[/name_m], and it was love at first sight. [name_u]Perfect[/name_u] to its core. I am not a nicknamey person (none of the names on my list have one, even when they’re on the longer side) but [name_m]Edwin[/name_m] has TONS of them. The more obvious ones are [name_m]Ed[/name_m], [name_u]Eddie[/name_u], [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] and [name_u]Win[/name_u] which are adorable. I cannot find a reason to dislike [name_m]Edwin[/name_m] no matter how hard I try.

Ha, sorry for the essay! I would love to hear about your favourite names (because I am such a huge fan of your style :smile:)

@leafygreens @astudyin_scarlet

thank you so much for your responses !!

this was meant to be a fun discussion of my favourite names but it turned into a deranged and incomprehensible ramble ?? leaving it here but uhhh

for me, i would say i have an all-time favourite fem name, but not a masc one. for me, that name is aurembiaix. i remember coming across her when i was first starting to actually invest in my interest in names, in early 2020. she was one of my first discoveries on nameberry (this was before i knew about the forums!!). something about her length and drama felt so perfect, and then i mentioned her to my mum and my mum loved her and suddenly i was like ?? woah i’m in love with this name. she feels golden. i love thĆ© aur- prefix, i love the bouncy flow of the whole name, and i even love the stupid x !!! and i’m so possessive over aurembiaix in a way that i just don’t get over any other name ,? like objectively i know i am not the only person to love this name and i’m very obviously not the first, she’s mine. for a while (basically always) persephone was it for me and aurembiaix sat in sort of 1.5th place - she was technically second, but i loved her just as much - but persephone is starting to feel just a little bit less special to me. i still adore the name, and probably always will (don’t get me wrong she’s still definitely top three), but i don’t feel like i love persephone more than everyone else can ?? if that makes any sense at all ?? she’s very much crept up the charts, and i met two, and suddenly persephone feels like a very very gorgeous name and not like a promise ??!

i used to have a boy name that i considered my Everything and that was ronan. i still adore ronan, i can’t imagine a prettier-sounding name to be honest, and i would still use him, but ronan doesn’t feel like mine anymore ?? i have top favourite masc names (theseus has been number one for a while, technically), but i sort of love them all as much as each other ?? and i love them differently. theseus and mercury and romulus and nikolai and achilles are all very dear to me and not one of them is in a different category. i can imagine myself with sons a lot more easily than i can imagine myself with daughters, and sort of relatedly, i can imagine using my favourite boy names a bit more easily than i can imagine using aurembiaix. maybe it’s easier to use names you love a tiny bit less ?? because they’re more adaptable?? and a little bit less consuming ??

My All Time Favourite Number One Name is Lou for any gender :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: but I only counted it as a fem name for the polls as I prefer it on a girl (with the full name Louisa).

My ATF masc name would be tied between Wilfrid and Lyle today, but I don’t feel as strongly about them as I do for lovely Lou.

Also, for anyone curious to hear about name-love evolution, my number one for the longest time was Lucille ā€œLucyā€. When that lost its spark, I found Louisa ā€œLusieā€, which eventually became Louisa ā€œLouā€. This all happening over 10 years.

Lilac (g) & Sasha (b)! They’ve both been on my list for years and there’s just something about them — like, if I knew that I could only have two kids, I would be completely content with my Lilac and my Sasha :yellow_heart:
