I would expect a baby Ilya (b)…
Is Ilya a doable name for non-Russian parents? Both my partner and I love it, but neither of us are Russian
I wouldn’t expect an [name_m]Ilya[/name_m] to be Russian, but I would expect him to have Eastern European heritage of some kind? Basically some level of heritage or other connection to any country where [name_m]Ilya[/name_m] / [name_f]Ilia[/name_f] / [name_m]Ilija[/name_m] / [name_m]Iliya[/name_m] / [name_m]Illya[/name_m] of any spelling is used. I personally wouldn’t find it inappropriate otherwise, but I do think I’d be a little surprised.
Not sure how to vote on the spelling question because it depends on how you want the name to be pronounced!! To me Ilya is 2 syllables (EEL-yah) while Ilija/Iliya are 3 (EE-lee-ah for Ilija and ee-LEE-ah for Iliya)
Also, I voted “would expect a baby Ilya to be Russian” but in reality I guess it’s more that I’d expect an Ilya to be from a country with Russian influence on its naming culture (Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan come to mind)
That said it’s a neutral-sounding name that’s used in quite a few places in the world in different but similar-sounding forms (Ilie in Romania, Ilias in Greece, etc. etc.) so I don’t think it’s too associated with any one culture
Apologies for the double posting!! Thank you for your votes!

I agree with what @EagleEyes said:
Is Cygnus “too strong”?
(I hope there’s a real Godric Hercules out there, what a cool name)
Favourite nn for Cygnus?
I wasn’t sure how to vote on spelling. In Russian [name_m]Ilya[/name_m] is pronounced eel-yah (two syllables) while all of your other options would have three syllables. So to me [name_m]Ilya[/name_m] is the only “correct” spelling, but if you’re going for a different pronunciation it wouldn’t work.
I know this isn’t helpful at all, but [name_m]Ilya[/name_m] [name_m]Rosen[/name_m] [name_m]Carlisle[/name_m] is absolutely darling!
