In Slovenia and Poland it’s pronounced with the -lye sound, the same thing in [name_m]Denmark[/name_m] but that’s even further [name_u]West[/name_u]. I think in [name_f]Russia[/name_f] it would be the same as it would be seen as another transcription of ŠŠøŠŗŠ¾Š»Š°Š¹, which can also be spelled Nikolay or [name_m]Nikolai[/name_m]. This is based on forvo and behindthename, maybe @rosebeth (or someone else) can confirm this.

I LOVE [name_u]Greyson[/name_u] but only spelled with an E. The aesthetic of grey vs gray is so drastic and so favors grey so that’s the killer for me

Oh see I’m the opposite, I love [name_u]Grayson[/name_u] but prefer [name_u]Grey[/name_u], though [name_u]Greyson[/name_u] isn’t too far behind (Grayson is 100% influenced by [name_m]Dick[/name_m] Grayson). It’s funny how names almost exactly the same can vary in preference

[name_u]Grey[/name_u] is blue-grey, like the sky or my eye color. [name_u]Gray[/name_u] is pinkish-grey, like the lint you pull from the dryer. Grey/Greyson just also look sleeker to me? Hmm, grey is the one British-English word I use in my writing, simply because of my personal preference in aesthetics.

I think I typed grey matter instead of gray matter referring to brain tissue in my neuro paper. I also just like it better but I’m sure my mentors will edit it out lol.

That’s really cool that you met an [name_f]Adis[/name_f]! All this time I thought I accidentally made up the name [name_u]Addis[/name_u] by tongue tying myself between two names :joy:

For some reason I can’t say it as anything aside from Tha-LYE-uh – even though I know that is incorrect.

For Sage, Rhys, Opal, and Vela’s mom. I’m about … 76% sure her wife will be Eunice.

If she’s Dorothea, she’ll go by Dot with friends/family. If she’s Theodora, she’ll also probably go by Dot.

It’s pronounced nik-uh-LYE in all Slavic countries (as it is in Northern Europe) @OpheliaFlora

[name_f]Adis[/name_f] and [name_m]Haris[/name_m] are perfect!

So, is the joke in Brooklyn 99 that the name is mispronounced even in Latvia? Or did the writers just not know that they were pronouncing it wrong? I’m so confused…
