i don’t like [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] [name_f]Olive[/name_f] just because it’s 2 fruits next to each other, but the rest are nice.
duly noted!
I’ve never thought of [name_f]Joy[/name_f] as a boys middle before, and idk if I’d ever use it myself, but I think it’s really sweet!! I like it
- YES!
- yes for you, but not for me
- should only be a middle
- no, shouldn’t be a name at all (@ me why)

I mean, maybe as a middle! But I have a hard time getting past the association of “holding somebody for ransom” (maybe because I watch lots of crime shows) so I can’t see it as a name personally. Sorry!!
I think most people consider it to be useable as a name though, so maybe it’s not the biggest deal!
You can certainly use it, however, Ransom is particularly tied to ransom money + kidnapping
Same

I recognize there is a religious aspect to this name… but I still really don’t understand it. I don’t see how any religious aspect could overshadow the horrendous meaning of the word, which is way more associated with kidnapping and crime in colloquial use. I didn’t understand it even when I was religious.
Before I share why [name_m]Ransom[/name_m] is appealing to me, I have to ask, whats the religious aspect?
The only thing I’ve ever associated [name_m]Ransom[/name_m] with, before discovering it as a name, is holding someone for ransom (which I understand and was expecting).
As I also know estragon as the herb and combined with the similarity to estrogen when written down, I don’t really find it very useable, unfortunately.
Oh, we can absolutely disagree. For me, Poet isn’t a name, it has no usage as a name and therefore reads more like a word that is chosen specifically for its meaning.
A name like Grace has seen centuries of usage and is, therefore, a lot less connected to its actual meaning than something such as Poem, Story, or Lullaby.
And this is primarily regarding real-life choices rather than UC combinations but honestly, with names such as these, I would ask the people around me, especially the men in my life if they would appreciate them because NB can be a bit of an echo chamber (whose demographic also leans very feminine).
I’m not super familiar with it but from what I understand, [name_m]Jesus[/name_m] described his death as a “ransom for many”, so like a ransom for sins. This is from a google search, all I knew previously was that it had something to do with [name_m]Jesus[/name_m]
I am religious and feel the exact same. I want to love it but it’s just… kidnap ransom.
I have a friend whose cousin is Ransom and this is the reason behind his name. Jesus is our ransom is the common phrase.
Edit: forgot to @ you before, but @spiderfish
Yeah, I don’t get Ransom…there are so many pretty names with religious meanings that don’t mean, you know, kidnapping…
I see I’m in the minority, but I really love Ransom! Since I personally know a [name_m]Ransom[/name_m] who doesn’t often encounter problems, I find it perfectly usable and I love the sound of it. I understand the negative connotations which would make some hesitant, but the experience of knowing a [name_m]Ransom[/name_m] who gets along just fine has really persuaded me that [name_m]Ransom[/name_m] is okay.
