The rare Hadassah

[name_m]Hi[/name_m],

We’re considering the name [name_f]Hadassah[/name_f], as we love the character and story in the book of [name_f]Esther[/name_f], but not huge fans of [name_f]Esther[/name_f].

I love the NN Haddie.

What is the proper pronunciation, from someone who either speaks Hebrew or knows? I saw on here that some contend with the name berry explanation.

I like the name [name_f]Hadassah[/name_f] [name_u]Love[/name_u] to join our current 4: girls Amaré [name_f]Elyse[/name_f] and [name_f]Selah[/name_f] [name_f]Carys[/name_f] (and boys [name_m]Job[/name_m] [name_m]Marcellus[/name_m] and [name_m]Boaz[/name_m] [name_m]Apollos[/name_m]).

I can’t really help with pn but wanted to say I think it’s a brilliant choice for you!

[name_f]Hadassah[/name_f] [name_u]Love[/name_u] is absolutely perfect. [name_f]Hadassah[/name_f] has such huge sense of regality and rare beauty, for sure. She feels special in some way for me, like a name to be admired (for me, it’s from a distance since I don’t have any personal ties to the Biblical story or Hebrew names in general).

I remember reading a blog by a woman with a kid named [name_f]Hadassah[/name_f] and they called her ‘‘Dassie’’ which is adorable I think.

This combo is beautiful but I do think it’s a weird choice if you’re not Jewish or Israeli. The pronunciation is basically how it looks: Huh- DAH-suh. The “dah” syllable should almost rhyme with “claw”. The A sound is NOT pronounced like the A in [name_m]Casper[/name_m] nor Apricot if that makes sense. [name_f]Hadassah[/name_f] [name_u]Love[/name_u] is adorable.

Hey thanks for the pn help! That is very helpful.

As far as using a Hebrew name, I think it’s fair to say ppl use names from all cultures & languages, if they like them. Also, we would choose it based on the Bible, as we believe in the [name_m]Lord[/name_m]. Our other kids are Amaré (Latin for “to love”), [name_f]Selah[/name_f], [name_m]Job[/name_m], and [name_m]Boaz[/name_m] so we def are all over the board. ”

OliviaSarah and jonquils —Thank you for your Encouraging (and genuine!) input. I do like Dassie as a NN as well, and even [name_f]Dassah[/name_f] (esp if we pronounce it the proper way—Ha-DAH (rhymes with claw)-suh.
