The Rev

I adore the name Reverie, and I was mulling over middle names, I thought of Reverie Tempest, and I thought it was brilliant.

That being said, it sounded so automatically correct, that I wonder if it’s already the name of someone, or something that I don’t know about. Are there any association with this that are too strong, or unsavory to use the name?

Secondarily, I’d probably call her ‘Rev’ a lot, mostly because of The Rev from the band Avenged Sevenfold, but I don’t know if that’s a slightly inappropriate namesake for a little girl.

Thirdly, I hear both love, and hate for Reverie, but I never see an in between. Is it just like naming my kid airhead like some say? Or is it just another wonderful whimsy name? Or do you see an in between?

In short, is Reverie Tempest already a thing? Can I nickname her Rev in good conscious? Is Reverie even a decent name?

Please answer kindly. Thanks in advance.

I can’t think of anything super obviously wrong or unsavoury, and nothing leaps out when I search it. One thing I will say is that because [name_m]Tempest[/name_m] and [name_f]Reverie[/name_f] are words, together they sound like the title of a piece of classical music? [name_m]Not[/name_m] a bad thing, just an observation.

[name_f]Rev[/name_f] is the most obvious short form [name_f][/name_f]- and given that babies are called [name_m]Bishop[/name_m], [name_m]Messiah[/name_m], [name_m]Saint[/name_m], [name_m]Deacon[/name_m] and [name_m]Dean[/name_m], I think it would be fine. Plus, [name_f]Rev[/name_f] is associated with cars as well as the religious profession

I’d put [name_f]Reverie[/name_f] more in the category of [name_f]Jubilee[/name_f], [name_m]Journey[/name_m], [name_m]Ocean[/name_m], and [name_f]Clover[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- [name_f][/name_f] whimsy words but with more solid sounds that say, [name_f]Dreamy[/name_f], [name_f]Wonder[/name_f], and [name_f]Whimsy[/name_f] itself. I quite like it for its energy and cheerfulness but equally spiky sounds

Naming your daughter what is essentially Daydream [name_m]Storm[/name_m] raises my eyebrow a lot more than [name_f]Rev[/name_f].

I find [name_f]Reverie[/name_f] [name_m]Tempest[/name_m] stunning[name_f][/name_f]! I really like it!! [name_f]Reverie[/name_f] has a dreamy softness but [name_m]Tempest[/name_m] is strong, moody, and literary, so the combo has good balance even though they are both word names.

[name_f][/name_f]

I don’t[name_f][/name_f] think it’s like naming your kid ‘airhead’ or daydream. For one thing, [name_f]Reverie[/name_f] has a lovely musical meaning too. I also think the similarity of [name_f]Reverie[/name_f] to [name_f]Everly[/name_f], [name_m]Ever[/name_m], [name_f]Avery[/name_f] etc helps make it feel ‘name-y’ unlike some other word names. I don’t know anything about Avenged Sevenfold personally, but [name_f]Rev[/name_f] does seem the obvious nickname and I don’t think it’s a problem.

I think [name_f]Reverie[/name_f] [name_m]Tempest[/name_m] is beautiful, really poetic and reminds me of the feeling I get when watching the sky over a vast ocean!
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Rev[/name_f] is adorable. [name_m]No[/name_m] problems imo

Both [name_f]Reverie[/name_f] and [name_m]Tempest[/name_m] have lovely sounds, but I agree with @southernmaple[name_f][/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]— it’s just too much for one name for me. [name_f][/name_f] It sounds like the name of a painting or a song, not the name of a child. [name_f][/name_f] I have no issues with [name_f]Rev[/name_f], but I would pick [name_f]Reverie[/name_f] or [name_m]Tempest[/name_m], not both. [name_f][/name_f] [name_m]Like[/name_m] [name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_f]Reverie[/name_f] or [name_f]Rivka[/name_f] [name_m]Tempest[/name_m] or [name_m]Tempest[/name_m] [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f], etc., something like that? [name_f][/name_f] Similar in feel, but more namey than [name_f]Reverie[/name_f] [name_m]Tempest[/name_m].

[name_f][/name_f]

Good luck!

[name_m]The[/name_m] consensus on this one seems to be mixed, so I’m going to continue to entertain the idea, since it’s unlikely it’ll ever really happen. That being said, does anyone have any ideas for siblings for [name_f]Reverie[/name_f]? There’s one set that I know of online of [name_m]Archer[/name_m], [name_f]Fable[/name_f], [name_f]Reverie[/name_f], and [name_f]Boheme[/name_f], which I think is just stunning, but obviously, I wouldn’t want to use any of those with my [name_f]Reverie[/name_f]. A name along those likes though is what I’m looking for.

[name_f][/name_f]

Thanks.

This may sound harsh, but I’m trying to speak objectively as I would want to hear the truth in your position.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Reverie[/name_f] [name_m]Tempest[/name_m] is a great Nameberry name, a great guilty pleasure, something many Berries would praise. However, in the real world, it might be seen as “trashy” or “weird.” It’s been proven that people with less serious names are more likely to be rejected from jobs, and it’s no secret that a name can cause bullying- sure, a lot of kids won’t know the meaning of the word [name_f]Reverie[/name_f], but it’s certain[name_f][/name_f] to come up and cause some conflicts. I think it’s a great GP or character name, maybe [name_f]Reverie[/name_f] for a middle name, but in the real world, thinking in your child’s best interest, it won’t work.

[name_f][/name_f]

Sorry for how harsh that sounds! I’m genuinely trying to be honest, and I know it sucks to hear but I’m just trying to be realistic. Best of luck!

[name_m]Just[/name_m] wanted to add that I don’t have any strong objection to [name_f]Reverie[/name_f] and [name_m]Tempest[/name_m] separately, as I’ve encountered both as names outside NB. But I would pair them with something more conventional, I guess? [name_m]Like[/name_m] [name_f]Reverie[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] or [name_m]Tempest[/name_m] [name_f]Juniper[/name_f] are still word name combos but don’t have the same oddball effect.

It will be many years before I have any children of my own to name, so this name will go into the category of names I will continue to plot out, but won’t actually use for a real child.

I think [name_f]Reverie[/name_f] is absolutely gorgeous [name_f][/name_f]- ethereal, whimsical, and memorable without feeling forced. I think the nickname [name_f]Rev[/name_f] works well, I even think a little girl named [name_f]Reverie[/name_f] could easily be called [name_f]Evie[/name_f] or Ri-Ri if you like those as well.

[name_f][/name_f]

As far as associations: I’m not aware of any famous person or major brand named [name_f]Reverie[/name_f] [name_m]Tempest[/name_m], so I wouldn’t worry about it being “taken.” [name_m]The[/name_m] words themselves are neutral to positive, though “Tempest” is dramatic and a bit stormy [name_f][/name_f]- but I see that as a poetic flair rather than something unsavory. Of course, it is a bit intense of a name combo as they are both word names, so like others have said, I personally would suggesting picking the one you like more (which appears to be Reverie) and pairing it with a slightly more palatable first or middle name if really wanted to use it for real.

Two more related questions.

[name_f][/name_f]

One, could [name_f]Reverie[/name_f] [name_m]Tempest[/name_m] work with a more grounded middle first, with [name_m]Tempest[/name_m] as a second middle. [name_m]Like[/name_m] [name_f]Reverie[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_m]Tempest[/name_m] for example? [name_f]Or[/name_f] does the two middles not really help?

[name_f][/name_f]

Two, could [name_f]Reverie[/name_f] and [name_m]Tempest[/name_m] work as names for sisters, both with more grounded middle names? [name_f]Or[/name_f] are they both too far out for a first name? Are they forever better as middles to a more well known first name?
