I love the name [name_f]Tyra[/name_f] pronounced TEAR-ra. But obviously most people would pronounce it Tie-ra as in [name_f]Tyra[/name_f] [name_m]Banks[/name_m]. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you have any alternative spelling suggestions??
Question: is it Tear as in I tear the paper or tear as in her eyes swelled up with tears? Sigh, English is confusing.
Tear as in crying tear as in TEER lol and not tear the paper
I think Teera would probably be the easiest way to get that pronunciation.
Teera for sure, but I would also assume that [name_f]Tira[/name_f] would be pronounced TEER-uh. Like tiara without the first A interrupting.
I actually know someone named this- she spells it [name_f]Tira[/name_f], pronounced teer-ah. I think the pronunciation would be fairly straightforward due to the similarity to [name_f]Mira[/name_f] which is meer-ah and [name_f]Kira[/name_f] which is keer-ah.
When you are looking for spelling alternatives I tend to look toward behindthename.com - the site seems fairly well researched. I did the same for [name_f]Tyra[/name_f] and this is the page that they have.
The site suggests that [name_f]Thyra[/name_f] is an alternative spelling in Swedish, Norwegian and Danish. I don’t think it screams Teer-ah to the average English speaker but I do think that the extra letter will make people more receptive to accepting that Tie-rah might not be the “correct” pronunciation in this case.
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] that helps.
