So, I’ve been totally stumped for my baby daughter’s mn. Have lots of choices, but not clicking with any of them. Her fn will be [name]Eden[/name]. She’s due, er, soon
On a beautiful night over this winter, I heard a retelling of the Russian [name]Snow[/name] Maiden tale, where in the snow maiden was named Ardour. The story really made an impression on me and, with the dual word meaning of love and intensity, I think that the name would be very fitting for my little daughter.
So, WDYT?
[name]Eden[/name] Ardour?
Too much?
ln is 2 syllables, starts with J
I think it’s a little too heavy. Either of the two would probably be fine on its own, but together I think it’s just way too much name to live up to.
2 syllables-2 syllables-2 syllables is a difficult rhythm to pull off, it would flow better if [name]Eden[/name]'s mn had 1 or 3 syllables. [name]How[/name] about [name]Adora[/name] or [name]Isolde[/name] or something else meaning love/strength which I think is lovely!
[name]Love[/name] love [name]Love[/name] the name [name]Eden[/name]! And I love finding mns that have personal significance like the story. But I agree with pp that 2 syllables will be a bit tricky. One syllable names that might work:
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Grace[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Hope[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Belle[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Shae[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Brynn[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Dawn[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Claire[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Gayle[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Jayne[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Lane[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Paige[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Rain[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Wren[/name]
Keep us posted!
I’m sorry because I know this isn’t what the word means… but for some reason I just keep thinking that the word “ardour” means burdensome or a synonym. The phrase “arduous task” keeps coming to mind.
I think it’s a little bit “D” heavy for me, but if you really love it, it’s not that bad.
The 2-2-2 syllable thing doesn’t both me at all. I’m a berry who places much less importance on “flow” than meaning. But I do agree with the previous poster that the name feels very D heavy, and therefore to me clunky.
What about the name [name]Bianca[/name]? It feels russian to me, and since it means white, it would keep the spirit of the russian snow maiden tale. It’s also appropriate for a beautiful little girl born in winter.
Let’s say for the sake of discussion that your last name is [name]Jackson[/name]:
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Bianca[/name] [name]Jackson[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Winter[/name] [name]Jackson[/name]
Ditto. And it’s hard to say.
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Esme[/name]?
Hm. Bummer, that’s sort of what I thought, tho. Thanks for giving it a go.
you know, the 2-2-2 thing doesn’t really bother me all that much. Maybe cuz I have a 2-2-2 and I’m used to it?
Anyway, thanks for the additional suggestions.
I think what I’m looking for is something more substantial than [name]Eden[/name], if that makes sense. I almost didn’t choose [name]Eden[/name] because it feels almost too light and airy and playful.
[name]Freya[/name]- I do like [name]Adora[/name], a lot, actually
polly- I love [name]Wren[/name], but that’s my ODD’s name! and, as much as I simply adore nature names, I’m feeling like possibly [name]Eden[/name] is enough nature name for one kiddo
moxielove- I love [name]Winter[/name]. Not so much with [name]Eden[/name], but I’m letting it roll around in there because I find [name]Winter[/name] to be just a lovely name
Okay, anyone still following- WDYT about [name]Eden[/name] [name]Althea[/name]?
[name]Althea[/name] was on a list for ODD and I haven’t really considered it for this girl, but it just popped in my head today and it has the right amount of syllables and it is certainly substantial and I think I like it… but is it too much of a mismatch with [name]Eden[/name]?
Any other suggestions would be great, I feel like I’m on a quest here
In case it matters, [name]Eden[/name] is a twin. Her twin brother will be either [name]Asher[/name] [name]Vale[/name] or [name]Vale[/name] [name]Asher[/name]… today, I’m leaning towards [name]Asher[/name] [name]Vale[/name], but I go back and forth given the minute
I really like [name]Eden[/name] [name]Althea[/name]! My other idea: [name]Eden[/name] [name]Snow[/name]
The name sounds a little off to me, but you and your daughter are the ones who have to live with it. So, in the end, if you love it, go with it.
Ardour as a word does mean what you say, but for me, the word is inextricably connected to sex and is often used that way (connected to passion).
[name]Eden[/name] Ardour is a bit harsh together. I don’t know how you feel about two middle names, but a short one syllable name in between would soften it and you can still use both!
Examples:
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Leigh[/name]/[name]Lee[/name] Ardour
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Jane[/name] Ardour
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Hope[/name] Ardour
PollyM has a lot on her post, which I didn’t see at first…
I think [name]Leigh[/name]/[name]Lee[/name] softens it the most. It doesn’t have any harsh sounds in it. ie the P in [name]Hope[/name] kinda pushes the name back into what you’re trying to avoid.
I think [name]Eden[/name] [name]Snow[/name] or [name]Eden[/name] [name]Winter[/name] would be just as nice because you will know the connection to her name and that will be special for you.
rollo
I think [name]Eden[/name] [name]Althea[/name] is lovely. And for her brother I’d vote for [name]Asher[/name] [name]Vale[/name], but as the parent of an [name]Asher[/name] I may be a bit biased.
