So, I love the name [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]. It’s on the top of my list for girls. However, I cant find a nn that I love. The obvious one’s are [name_f]Sophie[/name_f]/[name_f]Sophy[/name_f], which I’m not a fan of and [name_f]Soph[/name_f].
I know that you don’t need to have a nn but its always nice to have something else, like a cute pet name, to call your baby.
So, I noticed that [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] ends in a fee-a sound, like the name [name_f]Thea[/name_f] (which I love!). So, could [name_f]Thea[/name_f] work as a nn for [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] or is it too big of a stretch?
I would suggest [name_f]Sonja[/name_f]/[name_f]Sonia[/name_f] which is a nickname for [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]. Sadly I’m not a fan of the [name_f]Mia[/name_f],[name_f]Nia[/name_f],[name_f]Lia[/name_f],Jia etc nicknames
I agree with PPs about it being too much of a stretch, considering the -phia of [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] and Th- of [name_f]Thea[/name_f] are different sounds. It’s not intuitive.
I like the sound of [name_f]Thea[/name_f] and the sound does work on [name_f]Sophia[/name_f], but I would say to go with the spelling Phia or you could always choose [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] and the nickname [name_f]Fia[/name_f].
[name_f]Thea[/name_f] sounds completely different to [name_f]Fia[/name_f] / Phia! The ‘th’ sound in theatre vs the ‘f’ sound in fear. I don’t think it works as a nn for [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] - [name_f]Fifi[/name_f] would much much better, if you like that.
