Théoden

Is Théoden ([name_m]THAY[/name_m] o den) too out there when paired with [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], [name_m]Calvin[/name_m], [name_m]Zachary[/name_m], & [name_m]Desmond[/name_m]? What about with [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] & [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] added to the group?

Too LOTR for me to be useable for me personally. I do like all the other names together though!

I think it’s pretty out there when compared to the other names. Not strictly in a usability way, but in the sense that you could say [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], [name_m]Calvin[/name_m], [name_m]Desmond[/name_m], [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] and [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] are sort of vintage names, with the familiar [name_m]Zachary[/name_m] being not too much of a departure, and then you have Théoden which is more exclusively and obviously a literary name. So in that sense it stands out quite a bit from the rest.

Yes, I think it is. I don’t know where you live, but assuming you live in the US like me, the accent over the E and the pronunciation make it seem really extra compared to the other names. If you wanted to use it, I’d drop the accent and accept that few people will pronounce it the way you want. That said, I think a similar name like [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] or such would be fine.

It’s not my style, and doesn’t work with siblings’ names. WDYT of [name_m]Teodoro[/name_m]?

Maybe it’s just the limited usage of [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] in my area, but I think Theoden and [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] go fine together. It’s pretty out there compared to the other names though. I didn’t know but according to PPs, Theoden is a literary name, and in that sense, I could see it going well with [name_f]Primrose[/name_f], which I associate with Hunger Games.

I think Theoden is an awesome name! [name_u]Love[/name_u] the pronunciation you used, it’s the same way I’d pronounce it. But I really don’t like the accent over the “e”, especially next to the other names you listed. It feels extra and unnecessary. Theoden is a very cool name though and I think it would be wearable if he had a nickname like [name_u]Theo[/name_u] to balance it out. (If I met a Theoden I would assume his parents were big [name_m]Lord[/name_m] of the Rings fans, so if you use the name prepare to be asked that question often!)

My three year old is Theoden! We pronounce it [name_u]Theo[/name_u]-den, though. And his sisters have some just as unusual names, but I think Theoden goes well enough with the names you listed.

We get some strong reactions occasionally but nothing too out there. I think the similarity to [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] has made it all more ‘acceptable’ and nobody really comments on it that often. However, it is obvious when someone doesn’t like the name as they opt to call him [name_u]Theo[/name_u] without even asking if it’s one of his nicknames, lol.

Accent or not, I expect you/he will get a lifetime of thee-o-den instead of thay-o-den, unless you’re bumping into other LOTR fans on the regular.
