[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] is too close to [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]? I love the name [name_f]Theodora[/name_f]. (We’d call her [name_f]Thea[/name_f] probably). It’s not very popular as a girl’s name, but Theodore/Theo is very popular for a boy. I worry that she’ll always be in classes with Theodores and someone will either always confuse her for a boy or she’ll just be turning to answer to Theodore/Theo cuz it sounds so similar.
But, I may be overthinking it. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it’s too similar or no?
Thoughts?
Well, [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] are only one letter and one sound different, so I do find them to be nearly the same. However, I wouldn’t say [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] is too similar to [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] to be used! Especially if there are not Theodores in her immediate family, in your circle, etc. It’s a gorgeous name! I don’t think anyone would confuse a [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] for a boy, unless they read the name wrong (which can happen with any name). [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] and [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] are some less immediate similarities to [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], too.

[name_f]My[/name_f] daughters name is [name_f]Theadora[/name_f]. We spelt it with an a for that exact reason, to help differentiate it a bit from [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] when written down on paper.
We have had a few people skim read her name on paper and assume she is a boy but 99% of the time its not a problem, especially when we tell people her name.
Shes only 1 so I dont know what it will be like in school for her but I dont think it would be confusing. I work in a school and there are kids with similiar or even exactly the same names in every class and no one thinks anything of it.
If you love the name I would go for it! We have had so many compliments on her name and it has so many nickname options

I do love the nicknames! We’d prob use [name_f]Thea[/name_f] (which I know sounds like Theo) but also love Dot/Dottie. (Teddy is cute, but my husband has a negative association with that one).

Of course [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] + [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] are similar they are only one letter difference however I wouldn’t say [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] is too similar to [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] for the name to be used. If you do not have any Theodore’s in your family, friendship group etc then I would say [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] is completely fine.
Also just wanted to say [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] is gorgeous

As one who’s name has a boys equivalent to it….yes both of these situations will very likely happen on more then one occasion. For me it happened every year of school and beyond.

She probably would have Theodores/Theos in her class, but Theodora gives me a totally different vibe so while they are literally very similar, I don’t think they’re too similar?
This however could happen to - happens to my mum too
