Theolonius & Isidore

What do you think of Theolonius and [name_m]Isidore[/name_m]? I don’t know about Theolonius, because [name_m]Thelonius[/name_m] is associated with the one and only [name_m]Thelonius[/name_m] Monk, and Theolonius([name_m]King[/name_m] Voodoo) is the name of a song by the Bloody Beetroots. However, perhaps [name_m]Isidor[/name_m]/[name_m]Isidore[/name_m] could make a comeback because of [name_f]Isadora[/name_f]. Any thoughts, good or bad? Thanks!

I’d go with [name_m]Thelonius[/name_m], because otherwise people will think you’re misspelling it. (Excuse my ignorance re: Bloody Beetroots). I doubt [name_m]Isadore[/name_m] is in for much of a comeback. I love [name_m]Thelonius[/name_m], but not so much love for [name_m]Isadore[/name_m].

I second this.

I love [name_m]Isidore[/name_m]. It’s really cool and handsome. I know a boy named Hyperion [name_m]Isidore[/name_m], [name_u]Izzy[/name_u] with his friends or Hype. I love the meaning and it sounds like an old fashioned, romantic name.

Theolonius just sounds awkward and looks like a misspelling of [name_m]Thelonius[/name_m]. [name_m]Thelonius[/name_m] is neat too and I think it can move past Monk. [name_u]Theo[/name_u], Lo, [name_m]Leo[/name_m], [name_u]Loni[/name_u], [name_m]Theon[/name_m], [name_u]Lee[/name_u]… All good nicknames.

I love [name_m]Isidore[/name_m]! It’s my cat’s name, and, I will warn you, a lot of people think he’s a girl because of that name. (Why, I don’t know. [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] is masculine, [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] is feminine. So, same for [name_m]Isidore[/name_m].) However, I think it’s very regal, stately, and solid, and I do like [name_u]Izzy[/name_u] on a boy. Also [name_m]Sid[/name_m] would work as a nn. With [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] perhaps coming back on the coattails of [name_f]Isabella[/name_f], I’d say it’s time for [name_m]Isidore[/name_m].

I don’t know either reference for Theolonius or [name_m]Thelonius[/name_m], but I think Theolonius might be a little too much to handle anyways. I like [name_m]Linus[/name_m], and I like [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], but the two of them smooshed together is a little heavy. Then again, I like [name_m]Fitzwilliam[/name_m], and justify this fact by saying he can always be called [name_m]Will[/name_m]. [name_m]Just[/name_m] make sure you like saying “Theolonius” over and over again, otherwise, why name him that mouthful instead of just [name_u]Theo[/name_u]?

I love [name_m]Isidore[/name_m]. I’d be thrilled to see it used.

[name_m]Thelonius[/name_m] is cool, but I think it feels just a bit too over the top. Maybe a certain kind of kid could pull it off, but you have no idea what your kid’s personality is going to end up being like, so I think you have to be cautious with names like that. I think it would be perfect as a middle name. I’m borderline on it as a first name. Maybe a bit more wearable with the nickname [name_u]Theo[/name_u]?

Thanks for your opinions. I just wanted to say that I am not actually having a child and if I were, neither of these would be in the running! Sorry for misrepresenting that.

Is this in response to my comment? You didn’t misrepresent anything! I was sort of musing about the wearability of [name_m]Thelonius[/name_m], but I could have phrased it better. It was intended more as a general you than “your future kid.” Sorry for the confusion!

As for Theolonius, I agree with PPs and would make it [name_m]Thelonius[/name_m] instead. One could still use the nickname [name_u]Theo[/name_u] with a [name_m]Thelonius[/name_m]. I like [name_m]Isidore[/name_m], but to me, it sounds like the perfect villain’s name. Like an iceprince, an evil iceprince. He’s the direct opposite of a name like [name_m]Casimir[/name_m] which, to me, is warm, regal and heroic, if that makes any sense. That said, [name_m]Isidore[/name_m] is much more wearable than Theolonius/[name_m]Thelonius[/name_m].

[name_f]Love[/name_f] them both. I don’t see either one making any sort of come back though. Personally, I find [name_m]Isidore[/name_m] more wearable for a modern boy than Theolonius, as that sounds like a lot of name, and I could see people assuming Theolonius was a pompous ass.

Ditto this.

I think [name_m]Isidore[/name_m] has a chance. It would stay in the 800-1000 range, but it has a chance.
