[name_m]How[/name_m] would you pronounce [name_m]THIERRY[/name_m] from first glance.
Apparently its pronounced tye-reh which I love
But I thought it looked like teary ( like teary-eyed ) at first glance , which I also like.
Apparently its popular in france. Is there better spellings to make it easier to say (that don’t look ignorant)
I would pronounce Thierry roughly like tea-airy but not quite, it’s more together than that. More like t’yeary, I would say. I feel like the nameberry suggestion of tyeh-ree is accurate to what I say.
My pronunciation is not at all similar as I would pronounce your interpretation of tye-reh. I feel like tye-reh is pronounced tie-reh (with this being the “eh” sound at the end of “reh:” How to pronounce the /eh/ sound - YouTube).
If you’re having trouble with the pronunciation, here are the French pronunciations on Forvo: Pronunciations for thierry in French (from Thierry Henry to Thierry Lounas)
I’m American so my pronunciation of the name is similar to what the French pronunciation on Forvo is, except I don’t do the French r.
I always thought it was Tee - air - ee. My friend wanted to use it for her son but got vetoed. This is the pronunciation she used. We also have a chocolate shop here by the same name.

I love [name_m]Thierry[/name_m]. I pronounce it like t’yeary, as germaniris said. Though growing up, I had a teacher/my best friend’s dad whose name was [name_m]Theirry[/name_m] and he said it just like [name_u]Terry[/name_u] [Tare-eee], so at times my first pronunciation is like that.
tea-airy. which i believe is the proper french pronunciation as others have stated
My first instinct was like ‘fiery’, then I thought Tee - air - ee
Tee-air-ee is how it’s pronounced in the uk on tv and radio when discussing [name_m]Thierry[/name_m] [name_m]Henri[/name_m], the football player
Oh I thought it was like tye. (Like tyler) then ree .
Hmm. [name_f]Tea[/name_f]-airy sounds really girly to me.
The general population around here would just pronounce it [name_u]Terry[/name_u], as another pp mentioned. If you like [name_m]Ty[/name_m]-ree, spell it phonetically and use it!
[name_m]Tyree[/name_m] is a legitimate Scottish name with the pronunciation you like. You should use that instead if tye-ree is the sound you are going for.

Yeah, it’s “Tee-air-ee”… [name_m]Tyree[/name_m] is a legit name though. [name_m]Thierry[/name_m] would get butchered in the US, I have a friend who thought it was “THY-er-ree” for the longest time.
I thought it was pronounced like [name_m]THEORY[/name_m]. SMH. Learn something new everyday on Nameberry.
It pretty much rhymed with [name_u]Jerry[/name_u] when I say it, but I also don’t quite say it the same as [name_u]Terry[/name_u], if that makes sense?
More like Tear-ree
Makes me think of “teary”
