Thinking about Chloe

[name_f]Chloe[/name_f] is a name I’ve always loved but felt slightly embarrassed about loving given that so many people have told me it’s dated/“lower class” (I despise that term but so many people have used it ). However returning to nameberry has inspired a more ‘zero f***s given’ attitude and this sparkling biblical gem has been climbing up and up my list the more I think about it. So a few questions!

  1. What are your impressions? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it’s dated now or will become dated?
  2. What would you pair it with? I like [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] and [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] [name_f]Lavender[/name_f]
  3. What kind of person do you imagine? (My mum called it a ‘shallow blonde name’)
  4. [name_f]Chloe[/name_f], [name_f]Chloë[/name_f], or [name_f]Chloé[/name_f]?

Chloe is gorgeous. She has a beautiful sound, she’s multicultural and Biblical which I looove!! I’ve never really considered her because I have a strong personal association but gosh is she lovely!

I’d say Chloe is a classic, not dated! I’ve known Chloe’s ranging from adults to babies and they’ve all wore it perfectly.

I love your Chloe Lavender! I’d also suggest…
Chloe Primrose
Chloe Loveday
Chloe Promise
Chloe Beatrix
Chloe Lilibet
Chloe Swan

Not at all! When I imagine a Chloe, I think of a sweet little girl, curious about the world around her with two tiny pigtails. However, I also picture ballet dancers, pink tights, city girls, Eloise at the Plaza vibes!

In an English speaking context, I’d go for the Chloe spelling.

What a beautiful way to describe her - and she is exactly that!

I don’t think [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] is lower class. I am personally not keen on [name_f]Trinity[/name_f] and [name_f]Tiffany[/name_f], but [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] to me is a nice [name_u]French[/name_u] name.

I love [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] [name_f]Lavender[/name_f].

I like the dots over it.

I wouldn’t listen to other people. If you like it, use it.

[name_f]Chloe[/name_f] is both a goddess and a biblical name. How can that be lower class? In [name_u]Britain[/name_u] it is still being used, while other names, like [name_u]Shannon[/name_u], [name_f]Tiffany[/name_f], [name_u]Jade[/name_u], [name_u]Chelsea[/name_u] and [name_f]Charmaine[/name_f], have long since disappeared, because they were overused, trendy names of their time. This is so not the case with [name_f]Chloe[/name_f]. It’s a gorgeous name.

[name_f]Chloe[/name_f] is a fave of mine, and I associate it with [name_u]Paris[/name_u], prettiness, art, thoughtfulness, and a quiet independence. I love saying the name! I must say my husband struck it off our list on similar grounds - not classist - but a sense that Chloe’s “have things done for them” (so close to “shallowness”). I disagree with this and still could have happily used the name (were it not for fact that I has another handful we both loved). I would spell in the Anglo way because it’s well-known. I like both your ideas (though slightly tricky with Genevieve) but otherwise:

[name_f]Chloe[/name_f] [name_f]Meadow[/name_f]
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f] [name_f]Marianne[/name_f]
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f] [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f] [name_f]Mara[/name_f]
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f] [name_f]Searose[/name_f]
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f] [name_f]Lucette[/name_f]
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f] [name_f]Delphine[/name_f]
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f] [name_f]Seraphine[/name_f]
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f] [name_u]Celeste[/name_u]

…or an honour name, I like honour names for middles (at least one of them).

  1. I like the sweet [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] - bright, springy and charming with a bit of sass, a bit of sweetness. I don’t really see it as dated

  2. [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] is lovely! [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] [name_f]Renee[/name_f] is my fave [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] combo - but also, [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] [name_u]Juniper[/name_u], [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] [name_f]Adele[/name_f], [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] [name_f]Atalanta[/name_f], [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] [name_f]Amaryllis[/name_f] and [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]

  3. Okay, so [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] is one of my character’s names, so this is very much with her in mind, but I imagine someone determined, driven, well-meaning, creative, thoughtful, occasionally stubborn, occasionally sassy.

  4. [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] for me

  1. I don’t think it’s dated, but it does feel vaguely… nostalgic? It has a 2000’s feel but without feeling extremely dated to the 2000’s the way names like Mackenzie and Brianna do to me. I think it’s because of its popularity - my previous two examples made the top 50 and have since fallen down to the 150s or so, while Chloe is as popular now as she was in 2006! She feels more like a name “that’s here to stay” if that makes sense. It helps that it has roots in ancient mythology!
  2. I love Chloe Lavender! In general I like the idea of it with a timeless/non-trendy long, feminine middle name.
  3. I don’t really have a solid idea of what Chloe is like, but she feels sweet and preppy. And quite American to me, but that’s all.
  4. Just Chloe!

impression ~ the sweet spot for names! never dated, never trendy, always fashioned nicely towards the age. definitely not “lower class” :yellow_heart: i’d relate her to names like lana, leah, cecilia, and olive ~ neither here nor there!

combos ~ chloe lavender is beautiful! i also love genevieve if said french-ly, which i’m guessing isn’t your pronunciation used. some others i adore ~

chloe rivka
chloe lavinia
chloe winter
chloe thérèse
chloe october
chloe lucille

i think chloe can fit any sort of person! it feels very springy and green as a name, with some watery-blue aspect… but as for people, any sort! the chloe i know is brunette, so i defer to that just a bit.

my preference is straightforward chloe, although i am partial to chloë. 🫶🏼

I have also always loved [name_f]Chloe[/name_f]! I think it’s very chic. [name_f]Every[/name_f] time I think of that lovely name I see someone stunning and elegant who lives in [name_u]Paris[/name_u]. She has long blonde hair and she wears a super stylish blazer and she comes from an important business meeting. Definitely a classy name, not dated at all. I adoreee your combos!!! [name_f]My[/name_f] favourite is [name_f]Chloé[/name_f].

[name_f]Chloé[/name_f] is my favourite

But I pronounce the e as eh, not ee, because that is the default where I live… So I think that spelling it [name_f]Chloë[/name_f] makes more sense, like KLO-eh? that is my pronounciation.

  1. Aw, I like [name_f]Chloe[/name_f]! I think it’s really beautiful, and ageless–I can picture a [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] being a child, and adult, and an elderly person all with ease. It’s got an elegant look and a warm sound. I don’t feel that it’s dated, though I know it had an enormous surge in use recently. I guess that part remains to be seen. But it’s certainly been around since ancient times, so it’s hardly in the same category as a trendy, invented name.
  2. I like it paired with other Biblical gems: [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] [name_f]Abigail[/name_f], [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f].
  3. I answered this when I remarked on it being “ageless”, but I don’t picture anyone shallow or “lower class”. It seems warm & friendly to me. Maybe a little quiet? The more reserved but dependable friend.
  4. I prefer just [name_f]Chloe[/name_f], here in the United States. But the other spellings are nice, too.

  1. I think [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] is a lovely, familiar, and I’d say slightly posh name. No strong association with an era so I don’t see it becoming dated.

  2. [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] gives strong [name_u]Anne[/name_u] of green gables vibes is the best possible way!

  3. I imagine an honest and maybe a bit sassy young girl who grows into a capable woman.

  4. I’d keep it simple as [name_f]Chloe[/name_f].

[name_f]Chloe[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f] [name_f]Corinne[/name_f]

I do think [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] feels a bit dated/trendy to 2005-2015ish, at least in the United States, because it skyrocketed here during that period and is now falling a little. It’s a nice name, though, and I have no trouble picturing it on an older person because I know two twenty-something Chloes currently who would have been born shortly before it became really trendy here, plus actress [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] Sevigny–who is my primary association with the name as well. Personally, I would use the spelling that doesn’t contain any special characters if you are in an English-speaking country just for the ease of use.

[name_f]Chloe[/name_f] was one of the first names I distinctly remember falling in love with. I am not as giddy about the name now, but it still brings up happy feelings of nostalgia. It feels like a very upbeat, joyous kind of name that has a very high energy about it. I would pair it with a longer middle (Chloe [name_f]Caledonia[/name_f], [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] [name_f]Emmanuella[/name_f], [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] Leocadia) or a gender-neutral, more rustic name (Chloe [name_u]River[/name_u], [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] [name_u]Sage[/name_u], [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] [name_u]Sparrow[/name_u], [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] Ocean). I imagine a happy-go-lucky frolicking-in-the-woods type of child. Definitely a free spirit.

  1. It feels 2000s to me but not in a dated way, if that makes sense.
  2. [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] [name_f]Mireille[/name_f] is cute!
  3. I imagine a teenage girl with green eyes and long blonde hair, she’s very nice and kind of curious. I also picture spring imagery, cities and the y2k aesthetic.
  4. They’re all good but I’d use [name_f]Chloe[/name_f].
