Thinking about Herbert and James...

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] berries,

Lately I’ve been crushing on [name_m]Herbert[/name_m] and [name_u]James[/name_u]. I think I’m going to add them to my “maybe babies” list…what are your thoughts on the name? Also, what girls names do they make you think of? I ask only because I like to have an equal number of names on my lists, and while the lists are even now, they won’t be if I add [name_m]Herbert[/name_m] and [name_u]James[/name_u]…

EDIT: Some girls names I’m thinking about are Martha, Minerva and Zelda.

Thank you in advance.

[name_m]Herbert[/name_m] is unbearably dorky to me. Something about that double “er” sound makes me want to say the name in my [name_m]Steve[/name_m] Urkel voice. I prefer [name_m]Hubert[/name_m].

You can’t go wrong with [name_u]James[/name_u].

I love [name_u]James[/name_u]. [name_m]Herbert[/name_m], not so much…

Thanks for the feedback. [name_m]Herbert[/name_m] is a very new name crush for me, and I think we feel opposite about [name_m]Herbert[/name_m] and [name_m]Hubert[/name_m], southern.maple!

[name_u]James[/name_u] is classic. [name_m]Herbert[/name_m] is…unfortunate.

[name_u]James[/name_u] is a wonderful timeless name . [name_m]Herbert[/name_m] is middle name material if you love it, we are going to name our male rabbit Herbert and call him Herb… [name_m]Herb[/name_m] I can can get on board with and its a good name for a bunny… but I’ve never been in love with a -[name_u]Bert[/name_u] name though [name_m]Robert[/name_m] I have always liked. I would consider putting your nAmes together first and middle and consider [name_m]Herb[/name_m] over [name_m]Herbert[/name_m] or using it as a mn. [name_f]Martha[/name_f] is a great name, [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] is too much a video game to me … [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] I honestly don’t have any feelings either way , its an interesting thing, makes me think it could be ‘[name_f]Minnie[/name_f]’ with I feel off about like its just so far from my style I guess. But its not a bad name just not for me. Perhaps [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], [name_f]Millicent[/name_f], myrtle, [name_f]Mabel[/name_f], [name_f]Maribelle[/name_f], [name_f]Mildred[/name_f], [name_f]Blanch[/name_f], [name_f]Blythe[/name_f], [name_f]Brynn[/name_f], [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] , [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f], [name_f]Esther[/name_f]. [name_f]Greta[/name_f], [name_f]Heidi[/name_f], [name_f]Mary[/name_f], [name_f]Maryanne[/name_f], [name_f]Uma[/name_f], [name_u]Zola[/name_u], [name_f]Zora[/name_f], [name_f]Zara[/name_f]; Zellen?

I don’t think the world is ready for [name_m]Herbert[/name_m] quite yet. Although, the way the mainstream is eating up the vintage old man names, I will not be surprised if [name_m]Herbert[/name_m] is the [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] of 2017.

I think of [name_m]Herbie[/name_m] the love bug.

[name_u]James[/name_u] will always be in style. Classy, effortless, built-in casual nns ([name_m]Jim[/name_m], [name_u]Jamie[/name_u].)

I’d add [name_f]Hyacinth[/name_f] and [name_f]Jane[/name_f].

You have amazing taste. [name_m]Herbert[/name_m] is wonderful! Definitely a clunker, but in the best possible way- A little [name_m]Herbert[/name_m] would absolutely rock his name with loads of spunk :). [name_f]Zelda[/name_f], [name_f]Martha[/name_f] and [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] all sound great with [name_m]Herbert[/name_m]. I love the nn options of [name_m]Herb[/name_m] or [name_u]Bert[/name_u]- [name_m]Herbert[/name_m] (and [name_m]Hubert[/name_m]) just makes me happy.

With [name_m]Herbert[/name_m], I also love:
[name_f]Frederica[/name_f], [name_f]Nanetta[/name_f], [name_f]Rowena[/name_f], [name_f]Elva[/name_f], [name_f]Teresa[/name_f] / [name_f]Theresa[/name_f], [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], [name_f]Hattie[/name_f], [name_f]Hetty[/name_f], [name_f]Kitty[/name_f], [name_f]Claudie[/name_f], [name_f]Magdalen[/name_f], [name_f]Maxine[/name_f], [name_f]Oona[/name_f], [name_f]Winifred[/name_f], [name_f]Alma[/name_f], [name_f]Alberta[/name_f], [name_f]Augusta[/name_f], [name_f]Fern[/name_f], [name_f]Clemency[/name_f], [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f], [name_f]Hestia[/name_f], [name_f]Esther[/name_f], [name_u]Vesper[/name_u], [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f], [name_f]Mary[/name_f], [name_f]Frances[/name_f], [name_f]Florence[/name_f], [name_f]Flora[/name_f], [name_u]Pascale[/name_u], [name_f]Lavender[/name_f], [name_f]Theodora[/name_f], [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f], [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] and [name_f]Opal[/name_f].

The. first thing I think of when I hear [name_m]Herbert[/name_m] is “[name_m]Herbert[/name_m] the Pervert” :frowning: but if you like it, use It!

It is ‘the unbelievable dorks’ who become the vanguard. [name_m]Trust[/name_m] me when I named my daughter 12 years ago I was so uncool everyone stared when I told them her name, and now everyone is using that name. Lead the way i say!

I’m a big sucker for the clunksters like [name_m]Herbert[/name_m], I like it because it’d be incredibly cute on a little baby but also because it has nickname options that could come in handy should the name prove to be an issue later in life.

[name_u]James[/name_u] is the quintessential timeless classic for me, beautiful name, and I’ve never met a real-life [name_u]James[/name_u] that I haven’t liked!

I love [name_u]James[/name_u]!

Thanks for the feedback everyone! I understand where the majority of you are coming from with [name_m]Herbert[/name_m]…I felt very similar until an hour before I posted this thread, actually. I don’t know what changed my mind, it must’ve grown on me.

dinosaursroar: Thanks! I like [name_f]Millicent[/name_f], [name_f]Myrtle[/name_f], [name_f]Mabel[/name_f], [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] (though prefer the [name_f]Kalliope[/name_f] spelling), [name_f]Esther[/name_f], [name_f]Mary[/name_f] and [name_u]Zola[/name_u].

schickler: [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is a relatively new name love of mine.

nooshi: Thank you! Your taste is a bit more daring than mine, but I love it also. I like [name_f]Rowena[/name_f], [name_f]Elva[/name_f], [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], [name_f]Hattie[/name_f], [name_f]Hetty[/name_f], [name_f]Kitty[/name_f], [name_f]Augusta[/name_f], [name_f]Clemency[/name_f], [name_f]Esther[/name_f], [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f], [name_f]Mary[/name_f], [name_f]Frances[/name_f], [name_f]Florence[/name_f], [name_f]Theodora[/name_f], [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] and [name_f]Opal[/name_f].
