Thinking of giving our child an Indian middle; what do you think of these names?

I’m half [name_f]Indian[/name_f], and my husband and I have been discussing giving our child an [name_f]Indian[/name_f] middle name. We’ve spend the past day or so trawling through my family history and the internet finding names that are culturally appropriate to our child, and that we both love. This is the list we’ve come up with;
Aditi
Devani
Harita
[name_f]Ishani[/name_f]
[name_f]Lila[/name_f] (pronounced [name_u]Lee[/name_u]-la)
[name_f]Mina[/name_f]
[name_f]Parvati[/name_f]
[name_f]Veda[/name_f]

What are your thoughts on these names? Also, how would you pair them with our new shortend shortlist for first names? ([name_f]Frida[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], [name_f]Cecily[/name_f], [name_f]Edwina[/name_f], [name_f]Heloise[/name_f], [name_f]Maude[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f], [name_f]Zelda[/name_f])

I think it’s a really nice idea and a good way to honour your heritage. All of these names are beautiful but my personal favourites are Devani, [name_f]Ishani[/name_f], [name_f]Mina[/name_f] and [name_f]Parvati[/name_f].

[name_f]Frida[/name_f] [name_f]Ishani[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] Devani
[name_f]Cecily[/name_f] [name_f]Mina[/name_f]
[name_f]Edwina[/name_f] Aditi
[name_f]Heloise[/name_f] - I don’t think this one really works with an [name_f]Indian[/name_f] middle because it feels very obviously and traditionally [name_m]French[/name_m]
[name_f]Maude[/name_f] Harita
[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] [name_f]Veda[/name_f]
[name_f]Zelda[/name_f] [name_f]Parvati[/name_f]

[name_f]Frida[/name_f] Devani
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_f]Ishani[/name_f]
[name_f]Veda[/name_f] [name_f]Cecily[/name_f]
[name_f]Edwina[/name_f] [name_f]Parvati[/name_f]
[name_f]Lila[/name_f] [name_f]Heloise[/name_f]
[name_f]Mina[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]
[name_f]Zelda[/name_f] Aditi

I like:

[name_f]Leela[/name_f]
[name_f]Mina[/name_f]
Devani

[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] Devani
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_f]Leela[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecily[/name_f] [name_f]Mina[/name_f]

I think [name_f]Mina[/name_f] is very sweet! [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] [name_f]Mina[/name_f] or [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_f]Mina[/name_f] would be my favorite combos.

I love [name_f]Ishani[/name_f], [name_f]Veda[/name_f], [name_f]Parvati[/name_f] and Aditi. I also really like [name_f]Lila[/name_f], but I think there would be a lot of pronunciation issues. [name_f]Mina[/name_f] is lovely too, but it doesn’t immediately strike me as [name_f]Indian[/name_f].

For combos I like;
[name_f]Cecily[/name_f] [name_f]Veda[/name_f]
[name_f]Frida[/name_f] Aditi
[name_f]Frida[/name_f] [name_f]Ishani[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_f]Ishani[/name_f]
[name_f]Heloise[/name_f] [name_f]Parvati[/name_f]

I love it! My favorites are Devani, [name_f]Ishani[/name_f], [name_f]Mina[/name_f], [name_f]Parvati[/name_f], & [name_f]Veda[/name_f].

My favorite of the first names are [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], [name_f]Cecily[/name_f], [name_f]Maude[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f], and [name_f]Zelda[/name_f]!

[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_f]Ishani[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecily[/name_f] [name_f]Mina[/name_f]
[name_f]Maude[/name_f] Devani
[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] [name_f]Veda[/name_f]
[name_f]Zelda[/name_f] [name_f]Parvati[/name_f]

Nice idea!

[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_f]Parvati[/name_f]
[name_f]Heloise[/name_f] [name_f]Ishani[/name_f]
[name_f]Frida[/name_f] [name_f]Ishani[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] [name_f]Veda[/name_f]
[name_f]Zelda[/name_f] Harita
[name_f]Cecily[/name_f] Devani
[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] [name_f]Mina[/name_f]
[name_f]Edwina[/name_f] [name_f]Lila[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] Aditi
[name_f]Maude[/name_f] [name_f]Ishani[/name_f]

Devani, [name_f]Parvati[/name_f] and [name_f]Veda[/name_f] are names I recognized instantly as [name_f]Indian[/name_f] names and are the ones on your list that to me are very lovely and would be excellent as middle names. [name_f]Veda[/name_f] and [name_f]Parvati[/name_f] could even be firsts! [name_f]Parvati[/name_f] is an [name_f]Indian[/name_f] character in [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] and she has a twin sister named [name_f]Padma[/name_f]. They are great and positive characters in the series and anyone who is familiar with the [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] books or films will instantly recognize them. [name_f]Veda[/name_f] has very modern sounds and I think would fit right in with kids named [name_f]Eva[/name_f], [name_f]Ada[/name_f] and [name_f]Ava[/name_f]. Devani is beautiful and feels like a highly fortunate combination of [name_f]Deva[/name_f] and [name_f]Leilani[/name_f]. My point is, that all of these names would work just fine and I think that if you’re into it, they could fit right in as firsts.

Thank you all for your opinions! You’ve came up with so many lovely combinations!

@boyandgirl I really dislike the [name_f]Leela[/name_f] spelling of [name_f]Lila[/name_f], but your combos are lovely.
@thomasina Thank you for the suggestion of using some of them as firsts. I was aware of [name_f]Parvati[/name_f] in [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m], but I always think of the goddess first  In all honesty, the only ones I would use as firsts are [name_f]Ishani[/name_f], Devani and Aditi.

I just love [name_f]Veda[/name_f] and [name_f]Deva[/name_f] (which, ironically, are anagrams)

[name_f]Lila[/name_f] and [name_f]Mina[/name_f] are also European names, so to me those aren’t giving as strong as connection to your [name_f]Indian[/name_f] heritage as your other options.

I’m also going to suggest [name_f]Mirabai[/name_f] (one of [name_f]India[/name_f]'s most influential poets, she lived in the 16th century) and [name_f]Devika[/name_f].

Combos:
Cecily Veda
Maude Ishani
Zelda Mirabai
Rosalind Aditi
Edwina Devani

I really think that honoring your ethnic background is totally awesome. I love all the names on your list, but matching them up is a little tricky

My favorite firsts from your list are [name_f]Frida[/name_f] and [name_f]Zelda[/name_f]
My favorite middles are Aditi, Devani, [name_f]Mina[/name_f] and [name_f]Veda[/name_f]

[name_f]Frida[/name_f] Aditi or [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] Aditi

[name_f]Frida[/name_f] Devani or [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] Devani
