After how repetitive and needy I’ve been on here throughout this pregnancy, I figured I should share what the naming outcome ultimately was for our third baby boy.
[name_m]Warren[/name_m] and Clyde’s little brother surprised us by coming two weeks early at 1:32 am [name_f]Sunday[/name_f].
I had just finally thrown together a hospital bag earlier that day and the car seat still wasn’t installed when we abruptly left for the hospital. We still thought we’d spend a few more weeks mulling over our “hospital list” of names!
After spending a day in the hospital torn between several, we went with a combo that was never even really on our list- [name_m]Cecil[/name_m] [name_m]Dale[/name_m].
[name_m]Clifford[/name_m] [name_m]Dale[/name_m] had more or less been our top contender and what we assumed we would choose. [name_m]Clifford[/name_m] also had the advantage of using the honor name [name_m]Dale[/name_m] with it, whereas we didn’t love [name_m]Dale[/name_m] in the middle spot with most of our other possibilities. [name_m]Cecil[/name_m] really didn’t feel like a very strong contender going into it, but for some reason as I was sitting up in the dark wee hours with him after delivery, [name_m]Cecil[/name_m] kept standing out to me and [name_m]Clifford[/name_m] just felt a little forced. We spent the next day debating and agreed that it felt like [name_m]Clifford[/name_m] felt like the “safer” option because it was the one we had mutually agreed on and simmered with for the longest. But [name_m]Cecil[/name_m] inexplicably felt the most natural when we were holding him.
Most of the [name_m]Cecil[/name_m] combos on our list had been either longer or a little more out there, like [name_m]Cecil[/name_m] [name_m]Zebedee[/name_m] or [name_m]Cecil[/name_m] [name_m]Augustine[/name_m].
We kept coming back around to having a hard time letting go of [name_m]Clifford[/name_m] because we liked the idea of using [name_m]Dale[/name_m] in the middle spot. Despite initially not loving [name_m]Dale[/name_m] with any of our other options, we spent a while trying [name_m]Cecil[/name_m] [name_m]Dale[/name_m] and it quickly just felt “right” for him.
I still feel a little in disbelief that we put a name down on a birth certificate… and that we had a baby because that was sort of a wild story.
But I am relieved to say that now that he is here in our arms, we found an option that feels like “him”. I truly can’t picture him being anything other than [name_m]Cecil[/name_m]!
