my cousin and her husband are expecting their third little guy. they had a girl’s name picked out—but now they now they need boy’s name number three. they are into classics with slightly different nicknames.
older two are [name_m]William[/name_m] nn [name_m]Liam[/name_m] and [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] nn [name_u]Drew[/name_u].
both are named for family members.
top choices for this little boy are
[name_m]Stephen[/name_m] nn [name_m]Trey[/name_m] or Tres. or
[name_m]Daniel[/name_m] nn [name_u]Neil[/name_u]
thought they’d decided on [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] but are concerned that the nn being “ei” while his name is “ie” may be confusing.
i thought they were perhaps overthinking that. but said i’d ask my experts.
I sort of agree that the ie to ei change might be a little confusing, but I’m sure people would pick it up easily enough. [name_u]Neil[/name_u] is a well-known name. [name_m]Trey[/name_m] as a nn for [name_m]Stephen[/name_m] seems kind of random though.
What about:
[name_m]Wesley[/name_m] nn [name_m]Wes[/name_m]
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] nn [name_u]Theo[/name_u]
[name_u]August[/name_u] nn [name_u]Gus[/name_u]
[name_m]Henry[/name_m] nn [name_m]Huck[/name_m]
[name_m]Joseph[/name_m] nn Seph
[name_m]Christopher[/name_m] nn [name_u]Kit[/name_u]
[name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] nn [name_u]Nico[/name_u]
[name_m]Alexander[/name_m] nn [name_m]Xander[/name_m]
[name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] nn [name_m]Benji[/name_m]
I don’t buy Neil as a nickname for Daniel, but I’m a stickler. The couple seems to have classic, even popular, tastes with a pattern of using a nn derived from the end of the name. Here’s some suggestions:
[name_m]Trey[/name_m] and [name_u]Neil[/name_u] are both well established names so if they want to call him one of those I would suggest they go straight to them instead of using them as a nickname which only seems confusing,
