I just saw a post on Facebook from a girl I haven’t talked to in probably 10 years. She had a baby girl on Sept 11th. The name? Aviary [name]Belle[/name]. Aviary??! I just… don’t even know how to react to that. Your thoughts?
I say this often, but I’d like to not think that any name is truly awful-that everyone just has their own tastes when it comes to names and it’s all subjective, really.
But Aviary [name]Belle[/name]? Aviary? As in the large bird cages? I could understand [name]Avery[/name] [name]Belle[/name]. [name]Avery[/name] [name]Belle[/name] would be lovely, quite pretty actually. But Aviary? I’m sorry, I am not a fan…
Definitely not a fan of Aviary. I adore [name]Averie[/name], and quite like [name]Avery[/name], but Aviary? Too literal.
I like the name [name]Aviana[/name], but not Aviary. An aviary is a large enclosure for birds, basically she named her kid “bird cage beautiful.”
Aviary? I also immediately thought of the large bird cages. It sounds so silly. Was she really unaware of the meaning behind it? [name]Even[/name] though I don’t really like [name]Avery[/name] on a girl, it would still be much better than… Aviary.
I agree with this. I try to be pretty open-minded when it comes to names, but Aviary is just goofy. I sort of get that they were aiming for some sort of take off of [name]Avery[/name], but Aviary is really silly.
Perhaps she accidentally hit an extra key when typing her new daughter’s name? Maybe it’s [name]Avary[/name], which would be a (slightly kree8iv) variant of [name]Avery[/name], or a smoosh of [name]Ava[/name] and [name]Avery[/name]? I try to give people the benefit of the doubt…
Aviary doesn’t bother me so much (I think it’s a fairly harmonic and pretty word) as the fact that her daughter who was born on 9/11 named her daughter beautiful bird cage or beautiful cage. I can’t decide if it was thoughtless (most likely) or her attempt to honor the people who died by either burning to death or jumping to their death because they were stuck in a “cage”. (Honestly, I’m probably over thinking this, but you know.)
thats pretty terrible!
My guess is that the parents are pronouncing it [name]Avery[/name] but thought that they were being very “creative” and “unique” by spelling it Aviary (Which is one of the reasons why I hate kre8tive spellings. Half the time they don’t make any sense phonetically!).
I hope for their sake they actually knew what an Aviary was and they weren’t just trying to be creative with the spelling, maybe they really like birds or something. [Then again, there’s plenty of bird names they could have used if it was their intent.] Because if they were just trying to be all creative with the spelling and think it’s pronounced the same as [name]Avery[/name], it’s going to be embarrassing for the kid later on.
I would almost bet money they meant it to be pronounced like [name]Avery[/name]. I’ve ran across some spellings and pronunciations where I swear the parents just added a couple letters with no regard to phonetics. I have a now acquaintance, used to be friend, that had a daughter last year and she named her Kateline. I figured it was a [name]Kate[/name] and [name]Madeline[/name] smoosh, but when I asked her she said “No, it’s pronounced [name]Cate[/name]-lynn” Ugh. It still irks me every time I see her post her name on Facebook.
I like creative spellings half of the time. It depends on the name. In this case I prefer just [name]Avery[/name] if that’s how it’s supposed to be pronounced.
[name]Avery[/name] or [name]Avianna[/name] would have been much prettier, imo. But I guess everyone has their own opinions and taste when it comes to names sigh
[name]Bree[/name]
Maybe they really like birds!
