What do you think? I like it for a middle… Is it too strange? I think it’s pronounced THIZ-bee.
The meaning is unknown, but I have seen an interpretation along the lines of “face of her mother.”
I really like [name_f]Thisbe[/name_f]. I think it has a strange, ethereal beauty to it. It’s a stunner.
I love the sound of [name_f]Thisbe[/name_f], and I love the story even more (the Greek love story and possible inspiration for [name_m]Romeo[/name_m] & [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]). I would love to see it used.
I like [name_f]Thisbe[/name_f] as well. It could totally work as a first name.
I really like [name_f]Thisbe[/name_f]. It sometimes feels a too insubstantial for a first name, but it’s perfect in the middle.
I love [name_f]Thisbe[/name_f]! I’ve ruled out Greek mythology names (at least, I think I have), because I just feel like as a [name_m]Christian[/name_m], I have no right to name my child after a god I don’t believe in (plus, I’m just a bit uncomfortable with the whole idea of it), but I do like a lot of mythology names, and [name_f]Thisbe[/name_f] is one of my favorites. I think it’s fab. I’ve considered it as a mn before ([name_f]Eva[/name_f] [name_f]Thisbe[/name_f]), and I think it’s rather lovely. I would love to meet a little [name_f]Thisbe[/name_f]!
I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] the story. So beautiful. The name is just sort of meh for me. It makes me think of Frisbee. That being said, it could work like any other short, -e name. The story of [name_m]Pyramus[/name_m] and [name_f]Thisbe[/name_f] was likely the basis for [name_m]Romeo[/name_m] and [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]. It’s alluded to in lots of literature from that time. It might mean “where the dove lies”.
88 [name_f]Thisbe[/name_f], one of the largest main belt asteroids. And there’s a type of metalmark butterfly named [name_f]Thisbe[/name_f].
[name_f]Love[/name_f] it! Sometimes I’m almost positive this is going to be our top pick for a girl. Like Dantea, it used to just remind me of frisbee. It’s one of those names that crept up on me. I used it for a character in a novel I was writing, and I just fell completely in love with it. It’s a medieval spunky sounding name that works for a modern girl. Rare, but so far everyone I’ve asked to pronounce it gets it right on the first try. It’s great in the middle, but I love it up front.
For a middle it is fine.
It is a beautiful name, but can be a little problematic in the first spot as it is basically This + be in English.
I think you can get as spunky as you want in the middle so use it.
My only knowledge of [name_m]Pyramus[/name_m] and [name_f]Thisbe[/name_f] is from the play within a play in midsummers nights dream. So, the name reminds me of a man in (bad) drag, saying something about kissing a wall in falsetto.
I like it! I think it will distinguish her from all the kylies’, averies and beccas in the classrooms.
[name_f]Thisbe[/name_f] has been a long time favorite of mine. I love the original myth and the Shakespearean connection so much. I too would be overjoyed to meet a little girl named [name_f]Thisbe[/name_f]. As a middle, I can find no objection whatsoever!
I think it’s great for a middle name. I really like it, until I realize that it sounds like “Frisbee,” so I’d never use it as a first.
I think it’s usable.
