Thomas?

Wondering if you lovely berries could convince me that this is the right name! [name]Thomas[/name] was my grandfather’s name (always called [name]Tom[/name]), and he was a wonderful man who I would love to name a son for. It’s also been used many a time as a middle name for boys in my family, so we have a long heritage of using it, which I love.

[name]Thomas[/name] fits in with the style of names I love - classics, like [name]James[/name], [name]Joseph[/name], [name]Samuel[/name], [name]George[/name] - and I just love the nn [name]Tom[/name], but there’s just something about the name I’m not exactly sold on. Maybe it’s the way it looks on a page, not sure.

I think the way to convince me is by having a really great middle name to pair it with, but I’m not sure. I find boys names so much harder to love than girls names, and the few that I do really like are from the classic, traditional and/or Biblical groups. This would be fine and there are lots of these names that could go with [name]Thomas[/name] - it’s just that I wonder if, with [name]Thomas[/name] being so familiar, would a similarly classic name alongside it be… well, boring?

Can you convince me?

I just adore the name [name]Thomas[/name]. The Biblical figure is quite a favorite of mine, [name]Thomas[/name] the train is so cute and friendly, it always reminds me faintly of Mr. Tumnus in the [name]Lion[/name], the Witch, and the Wardrobe. I’d use it in a heartbeat if other names weren’t more personally connected to my own family, so you’re lucky it is for you!

What about pairing [name]Thomas[/name] with a name that is Biblical and/or traditional in the sense of being an old name, but a little more on the uncommon and/or spunky side? Saints names can be a good resource if you’re OK with them. I’ve always liked [name]Thomas[/name] paired with [name]Christopher[/name], good rhythm and symbolism (for me), but That might be too traditional (I really like traditional boys’ names, as is probably obvious).

Let’s see…here are some names in the categories I’m thinking of.

[name]Thomas[/name] [name]Absalom[/name]
[name]Thomas[/name] [name]Alaric[/name]

Sure there are more! Good luck!

I absolutely love [name]Thomas[/name]. My friend has a little boy [name]Thomas[/name] and calls him [name]Tommy[/name] and he is just too cute, so I’m totally in love with this name for a little boy. Your tastes seem very similar to mine. Family history and tradition are very important to me as well. We went with [name]Samuel[/name] for a first name (which is a family name) and made it unique by using one of my grandmothers’ maiden names as his middle name. Would that be an option? That would make it even more personal, meaningful, and unique (and made both sides of the family very happy!). [name]Just[/name] a thought.

I adore [name]Thomas[/name]. My absolute favorite boys name! Hubby loves it too, but we haven’t used it because our last name starts with a T and has a prominent “s” sound and dh is not a fan of the combo. My daughter actually has two Tommys in her preschool class and I am green with envy.

As far as middle names go, I think I’d pick something with 3 syllables that didn’t end or begin with an “s”. I’ve always fancied Thomas Nathaniel.
