I like [name]Thomasina[/name] on its own, much more than [name]Tamsin[/name] (To be fair, in my accent, [name]Tamsin[/name] and [name]Thompson[/name] are pronounced pretty similarly, so [name]Tamsin[/name] doesn’t have a very feminine sound to me. [name]Tamsin[/name] might be quite lovely in other accents). In all honestly, [name]Tamsin[/name] or [name]Thomasina[/name] make a nice sibling name to [name]Lara[/name], and have the right balance of familar / creative.
I love [name]Tamsin[/name] and would have used it had my son [name]Thomas[/name] been a girl. I’ve only known one [name]Thomasina[/name] --human, that is – but to me, [name]Thomasina[/name] is the cat from [name]Paul[/name] Gallico’s book and the Disney movie of the same name. My sister’s cat was named [name]Thomasina[/name]. [name]Tamsin[/name] is a legitimate name in its own right – [name]Larry[/name] [name]Olivier[/name]'s daughter is [name]Tamsin[/name].
Also, if you’re brave, you might consider [name]Tavish[/name], a Scottish version of [name]Thomas[/name] – it could be a girl’s name, I think.
I like [name]Tamsin[/name] a lot. [name]Thomasina[/name] is not my style, but I can see how it would be pretty and [name]Tamsin[/name] I think makes it a little more familiar sounding. Great creative nn!
I love [name]Tamsin[/name] by itself! You don’t see it a lot around here, so it’s nice to see someone else considering it [name]Thomasina[/name] is quite a heavy name (for me) and to be honest, I’m not really a fan of it, but [name]Tamsin[/name] is definitely usable as a nickname.
I do think [name]Tamsin[/name] and [name]Lara[/name] sound more like sisters than [name]Thomasina[/name] and [name]Lara[/name], but there’s nothing wrong with [name]Thomasina[/name] at all. It’s just not my style!
I don’t think it is ridiculous at all, but I don’t feel like [name]Tamsin[/name] is an organic nickname even though it has the same sounds as [name]Thomasina[/name]. Most nicknames come about because they are short and easy to say. If they are more than one syllable it’s usually just an ee sound added on like [name]Elizabeth[/name] to [name]Liz[/name] to [name]Lizzy[/name].
I do like both [name]Thomasina[/name] and [name]Tamsin[/name] as names though, very pretty and underused.
I’m not a big fan of [name]Thomasina[/name], but I love [name]Tamsin[/name]. Why not just give her the name [name]Tamsin[/name]? That would avoid any future confusion and I think [name]Lara[/name] and [name]Tamsin[/name] make a perfect sibset.
I love [name]Thomasina[/name], and [name]Tamsin[/name] too, but I don’t really see [name]Tamsin[/name] as a nickname so it seems odd to me not to use something like [name]Tommy[/name], [name]Sina[/name] or even [name]Maisie[/name] for [name]Thomasina[/name].
[name]Thomasina[/name] is pretty and I definitely think it’s usable - but I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Tamsin[/name] on it’s own! [name]Tamsin[/name] is sweet and quirky and fun, and it goes wonderfully with [name]Lara[/name]. [name]Lara[/name] and [name]Thomasina[/name] seem a bit mismatched, [name]IMO[/name].
I don’t think [name]Thomasina[/name] would work in the real world. It reminds me of the cat… and I just really dislike it, it doesn’t sound feminine to me at all. My last name is [name]Thomas[/name], and would you believe that SO many people don’t know how to spell it? It seems so obvious to me–but with [name]Thomasina[/name] I can see you certainly having spelling problems from others. I’m honestly not much of a fan of [name]Tamsin[/name] either but I do prefer it to [name]Thomasina[/name].
I really like the name [name]Tamsin[/name] (on its own, though I do know it was originally a nickname for [name]Thomasina[/name]), but as a previous poster said, I fear [name]Tammy[/name]. Nothing wrong with the name [name]Tammy[/name], but it does conjure up the 80s for me.
I think a big part of the question for me is where you live. If you live in [name]England[/name] where the name is more common, then maybe. In the US, I wouldn’t. [name]Tamsin[/name] is such a strange name to me. I, honestly, think of tampons when I hear it. I agree that in the US people will try to shorten it to [name]Tammy[/name], but you don’t have to listen to them, so I’m not sure how much an issue that is. I like [name]Thomasina[/name] as a name, but I do not care for [name]Tamsin[/name] at all. Sorry!
I’m not crazy about the feminisation of male names, but [name]Tamsin[/name] feels like a name in its own right, so I like it. [name]Thomasina[/name] makes me feel like you wanted a boy and had to settle for a girl. Prefer [name]Tamsin[/name].
I like [name]Tamsin[/name] by itself. I understand that the letters are there to make [name]Tamsin[/name] a nickname for [name]Thomasina[/name] but the sound just isn’t. I am not a fan of pulling random letters out of a child’s name to make a nickname.
