Those Wilderness Loving Boys

UPDATE ON PAGE TWO!

I’m afraid it’s time to put some long loves to rest and it’s breaking my heart. [name_m]Caspian[/name_m], my dear sweet boy. I’ve loved [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] since I was a little girl. However, our children will have SO’s last name which just doesn’t work with [name_m]Caspian[/name_m]. It’s two syllables, starts with K and ends with N. Think Katlen. I’m also retiring [name_m]Lochlan[/name_m], which makes me sad, but [name_m]Loch[/name_m] is more of a crush than a love, so him I can say goodbye to with some dignity. I’ve been trying to force [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] on the list, and telling myself it sounds just fine. The mister is a [name_m]Kevin[/name_m], which shouldn’t work with his last name, but it does. I think the issue with [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] is the repeated [name_f]CA[/name_f]/KA in the first syllable as well as the repeated AN/EN sound at the end.

I know boys don’t get near the attention the girls do, so hopefully I can get some good help here. Personally, I love the boys. I dream of having a house full of boys. We’re not yet TTC, so there’s time to work through a lot of names. I’m looking for combos, suggestions, feedback, anything at all really. [name_f]Inspiration[/name_f]. I want to fall in love.

Our sons will be lovers of nature and wilderness. I certainly can’t guarantee that, but I would be shocked if they weren’t. They come from a long line of mountain/water/forest men. [name_f]Imagine[/name_f] you’re naming this little boy, as this is pretty close to how I imagine our boys will be:

Here’s their daddy, the love of my life on his beloved mountains. [name_m]Kevin[/name_m] was born and raised on a mountain in [name_f]Alaska[/name_f], and has been climbing them since he started walking. His parents were homesteaders. I’m also including a photo of their uncle (my brother), who will be around them a lot. I’m fairly certain my brother will be a lifetime bachelor, spending weeks at a time lost in the wilderness. My brother and I grew up in a one bedroom log cabin on 150 acres of forest. My boys (and girls, but this is for the boys) will be raised in [name_f]Alaska[/name_f], and will be strapped to their daddy on his mountain journeys as soon as he’s able to take them.

First photo is my SO with one of his buddies. SO is on the left. Second photo is my brother. These are to give you an idea of the sort of life my boys will have, and the things the men in their lives will be doing. I spend a lot of time outdoors as well, although I spend an equal amount of time lost in a book. From me, the boys will hopefully inherit a love of words.

Photos should be bigger if you click on them, although they’re just here for you to get a visual feel for who my boys come from. Men in both our families are tall. Slim on his side, broad on my side. Everyone on SO’s side is blue eyed, blond or light brown haired, and fair skinned. My side is a blend of blue, green and brown eyes, blond, brown and auburn haired, with mostly fair skin, but the occasional olive skin stone as well.

My name is [name_f]Erica[/name_f], so no names that are similar. [name_m]Eric[/name_m], [name_m]Alaric[/name_m], etc. Also, trying to stay away from anymore boys’ names ending in N as I have a lot of them.

Names that we’re keeping:

[name_m]Damian[/name_m] [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f] (this name is set)
[name_m]Desmond[/name_m]
Gwydion
[name_m]Peregrin[/name_m]

First names we still love, but they’re second tier loves:

[name_m]Conrad[/name_m]
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m]
[name_u]Tristan[/name_u]

Middles we love:

[name_m]Atlas[/name_m]
[name_m]Caspian[/name_m] (sniff)
Earendil
[name_m]Evander[/name_m]
Finglas
[name_u]Frost[/name_u]
Gawain
[name_m]Hart[/name_m] (a lot of personal meaning to me)
[name_m]Huckleberry[/name_m] (again, this has some personal meaning to me)
Hyperion
Ivanhoe
[name_m]Kester[/name_m]
Kestrel
Llyr
[name_u]Lyric[/name_u]
[name_m]Lysander[/name_m]
[name_m]Odin[/name_m]
Pendragon
[name_m]Rune[/name_m]
[name_u]Story[/name_u]
Sylvan
Taliesin
Thorondor
[name_m]Ward[/name_m] (family name)
[name_m]Wilder[/name_m]
[name_m]Wolf[/name_m]
[name_u]Zephyr[/name_u]

Honestly, about 1,000 names, but I’ll stop because this is getting long.

Nature, mythology, literature, Scottish, Norwegian, Dutch, [name_m]German[/name_m], Spanish names. We’re very open to anything in the middle if it resonates with us. First names we’re a little more conservative, although not as conservative as most. The girls list in my signature is pretty much perfect (still working on [name_f]Pandora[/name_f]), to get a feel for what we like. Two or three names are fine, whatever the name needs to feel complete.

Thanks to anyone who read this entire thing. Brevity has never been a strength with me, so I really appreciate your staying with me to the end.

Wow cool! I can’t see any of your photos, but your words are enough. [name_m]Sylvan[/name_m] is a particular favorite of mine. It just conjures up forest green and still clearings for me. I’m unclear from your post whether you want feed back on the names you already have or if you want recommendations, but [name_m]Sylvan[/name_m] is mine.

As for the names you already have, these a great. [name_m]Desmond[/name_m] and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] are two of my favorites ([name_u]Theo[/name_u]!). [name_m]Evander[/name_m] is very handsome. It would be a great middle for either of those names. [name_m]Desmond[/name_m] [name_m]Lysander[/name_m] is pretty fantastic.

[name_m]How[/name_m] do you feel about [name_m]Eamon[/name_m]? It’s a form of [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] which gives you the [name_f]Narnia[/name_f] connection that [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] had and there’s a character named [name_m]Eamon[/name_m] in the beautiful Irish film The [name_f]Secret[/name_f] of [name_u]Roan[/name_u] Inish.

I also sort of see [name_m]Adrian[/name_m] for you. It makes me think of the Adriatic sea, which feels comparable to the [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] Sea.

I’m realizing I keep giving you names ending in -n. I like windswept, oceany names and for whatever reason they have been ending in -n

Thank you sparrowfinch. I’ve fixed the images. My image hosting website seemed to be down, so I’ve used NB. [name_f]Hope[/name_f] that works.

I love [name_m]Sylvan[/name_m], and I’ve added it to my middle list. [name_m]Desmond[/name_m] [name_m]Lysander[/name_m] is a dream. [name_f]Love[/name_f] it. Definitely a top contender with [name_m]Des[/name_m] for now. [name_m]Eamon[/name_m] is wonderful. It’s a name I appreciate, but not one that sings to my soul. They either do or they don’t. I’ve known a lot of [name_m]Adrian[/name_m]'s, as well as [name_f]Adrienne[/name_f]'s, so that’s out but thank you.

So I’ve got:

[name_m]Damian[/name_m] [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f]
[name_m]Desmond[/name_m] [name_m]Lysander[/name_m]

[name_m]How[/name_m] do you suppose [name_u]Tristan[/name_u] sounds with the last name? [name_u]Tristan[/name_u] Katlen. Does it work? We love [name_u]Tristan[/name_u], but it’s almost in the [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] and [name_m]Lochlan[/name_m] camp, and a little too rhyme-y with the last name, no? I want to love some first names for boys, but am finding that so many of my favorites end in N and aren’t working.

I really love it when parents have a very clear picture of the kind of name they want for their children, imagery is so important!

Is it bad that I kind of like [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] ‘katlen’? [name_m]Cas[/name_m] Katlen, snappy. Could just be me…

He must’ve been rather dashing… anyway, [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] sets her eyes on him, but because of his faery lover he rejects her. She accuses him of stuff and Lanval breaks his promise and tells the king and queen about his faery. Unlike other stories, this faery girl is not upset, she instead swoops in on her horse and rescues Lanval. Romance!

I forgot two! I know that might be hard to believe when you look at my list (which is actually too long; I tried to edit a spelling mistake and when I corrected it (changed a s to a d) nameberry said there were too many characters, I had to shorten it. NB must’ve been sleeping when I posted…), but I did.

Ljosalfar: In Norse mythology there are dark elves (Dokkalfar) and light elves (Ljosalfar). Tolkien got inspiration for his creatures here, and Ljosalfar literally means light elves; ljos is light and alfar is elves. I think it would make a smashing middle.

Varini/Varin/Varni/[name_m]Warren[/name_m]: the name of a very old Germanic tribe. They were slaughtered by the Franks around the 7th century, but the name is good and it means “to defend”.

I also realised I didn’t make any combos, but I will try and do some now:

[name_m]Peregrin[/name_m] [name_u]Lyric[/name_u]

Gwydion Earendil [name_m]Hart[/name_m]
Gwydion [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] [name_m]Hart[/name_m]
Gwydion [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] [name_m]Hart[/name_m]

I will wait to do combos with mine until I know what you like… But I do think Ljosalfar would be smashing so…

[name_m]Peregrin[/name_m] Ljosalfar [name_m]Hart[/name_m]
Gwydion Ljosalfar [name_m]Hart[/name_m]

I’m really loving [name_m]Hart[/name_m] for you, I think you must use it in one of your combos.

Can I just say I love all these names people are suggesting lol People are probably going to use a lot of nicknames tho

[name_m]Pilot[/name_m] ([name_m]Pilot[/name_m] Station)
Stikine (Stikine [name_u]River[/name_u])

Lots of good names suggested! I won’t do combos now as it’s one of my husbands off days and I want to spend time with him, but I’ll suggest some first names I think you’ll love. I’ll be honest and say I read everything but the whole name lists. I skimmed those. If I repeat anything that’s on there, just skim over it. That boy in the picture is obviously a [name_m]Jack[/name_m].

Adventurous names I could see on that lovely boy (first for me but if they get too out there for you, middle):

[name_m]Alastair[/name_m]
[name_m]Quillon[/name_m]
[name_m]Raphael[/name_m]
[name_u]Zephyr[/name_u]
[name_u]Blaise[/name_u]
[name_m]Artemus[/name_m]
[name_m]Felix[/name_m]
[name_u]Phoenix[/name_u]
[name_m]Ajax[/name_m]
[name_m]Perseus[/name_m]
Belenus
Taranus
[name_m]Llewellyn[/name_m]
[name_m]Owain[/name_m]
Pryderi
Uther
[name_m]Gunther[/name_m]
[name_m]Frey[/name_m]
[name_m]Vidar[/name_m]
[name_m]Ambrose[/name_m]
[name_m]Augustus[/name_m]
[name_m]Bastian[/name_m]
[name_m]Fritz[/name_m]
[name_m]Hugo[/name_m]
[name_m]Milo[/name_m]
[name_m]Justus[/name_m]
[name_u]Nico[/name_u]
[name_m]Willem[/name_m]
[name_m]Ivo[/name_m]
[name_m]Silvester[/name_m]
[name_m]Hawk[/name_m]
[name_m]Hakon[/name_m]
[name_m]Isidore[/name_m]
[name_m]Julius[/name_m] “[name_u]Jules[/name_u]”
[name_m]Rainer[/name_m]
[name_m]Roland[/name_m]
[name_m]Tulio[/name_m]
[name_u]August[/name_u]
[name_m]Rune[/name_m]
[name_m]Viggo[/name_m]
[name_m]Odin[/name_m]
[name_u]Fife[/name_u] – Which is a Scottish place name, not just a word
[name_m]Ramsey[/name_m]
[name_u]Rory[/name_u]
[name_m]Aramis[/name_m]
[name_m]Gareth[/name_m]
[name_m]Percival[/name_m]
[name_m]Tybalt[/name_m]

And for the record, I don’t think [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] Katlen is bad. It sounds like a cool super hero.

I only have a moment, but I wanted to pop in. Thanks for all the names, ladies! Let me go through them quickly.

louisa: [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t encourage me! Seriously, all I need is one person to see [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] is fine with ‘Katlen’ and I’ll convince myself it’s the most perfect thing ever. I’m having a very hard time letting go of [name_m]Caspian[/name_m], but every time I say it with ‘Katlen’ it sounds off. Especially once I say it more than once. Ugh. Maybe it is okay? Dang it. I’m adding [name_m]Corbett[/name_m] to the first names under consideration. I rather like it. It’s different from most of my first names love, a little more abrupt and almost cowboy-ish. But I like it. It feels rugged and has a nice swagger. I’m adding [name_m]Cairn[/name_m], [name_m]Cove[/name_m] and [name_u]Bay[/name_u] to middle name options.

ottilie: oh my. As usual you’re a sea of knowledge when it comes to names. I’m not kidding about writing that book, missy. I’d buy your name book before the ink was dry on the pages. Let’s see. I won’t go through and explain why I can’t use the ones I can’t use from your list. [name_m]Just[/name_m] know that most of them I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f]. Some are people/pets I know, others are characters in books I’ve written or plan to write, and ones like Ljosalfar for example are names I’d use if I were a single parent, but the mister has made it a rule that he has to be able to pronounce and spell the name without having to practice saying it. He barely let Eilonwy through, and only did so because I told him I’d pack my bags if he told me I couldn’t have an Eilonwy. Haha! So the challenging spelling/pronunciation ones have to be names I am very passionate about and willing to fight to the death over. Also, I didn’t know there was a word cap in our responses. Good to know!

From Nature, adding: Alder, [name_f]Aquila[/name_f], [name_f]Fjord[/name_f], Galingale, Isbre, [name_m]Quest[/name_m] (yes, I love word names).

From Mythology, adding: Aegir, Boreas (I love the idea of this more than the sound however), Chiron, Finvarra, [name_m]Njord[/name_m], and [name_m]Theron[/name_m].

Legends, etc: Agravain, Bedivere, Galahad, [name_m]Idris[/name_m], Lanval (I haven’t read it, will look it up), [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] (I think SO said no to this, but it was first name spot, maybe he’ll be okay with a middle).

Literature, etc: Aragorn (why not :D), [name_m]Birk[/name_m] (haven’t read it, will read), Calidore, Edoras, Faramir, [name_m]Ferdinand[/name_m], Lyulf, Melynlas (hadn’t ever considered this! thanks), Strider.

Combos: [name_m]Peregrin[/name_m] [name_m]Hart[/name_m] and [name_m]Peregrin[/name_m] [name_m]Ivanhoe[/name_m] [name_m]Hart[/name_m] could be my [name_m]Peregrin[/name_m] combo. Really loving it. [name_u]Lyric[/name_u] works great in there, too. Gwydion is going to be a tough one for me, I think. He’s right behind [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] and Eilonwy in terms of how long I’ve been dreaming of a child with this name, so I’m very picky with what works with him. Gwydion may end up needing a thread of his own one of these days. Earendil does work, though. I like it. Gwydion Ljosalfar [name_m]Hart[/name_m] is a dream! So won’t go for it, I’m sure. [name_m]Will[/name_m] ask, but I already know the look he’s going to give me. Yes, [name_m]Hart[/name_m] needs to be used, agreed.

tarah: awesome! Someone with some great Alaskan ideas. I’d be down with a town name if it had some meaning for us. We love [name_m]Homer[/name_m] and [name_m]Seward[/name_m], for example, but as a name, they leave me a little cold. Wildrose on the girls side is a town name where SO’s mother was born and raised (she’s deceased), so that’s an example of a town name that means something. [name_m]Navarro[/name_m] and [name_m]Philo[/name_m] are boys names that are also towns that have a ton of meaning to me. I’m adding, [name_m]Fox[/name_m], [name_m]Thane[/name_m], Knik (is that over the top, do you think? If you met a boy in [name_f]Alaska[/name_f] with middle name Knik what would you think?), Alpine, Ambler, [name_m]Thorne[/name_m]. Also, [name_m]Byron[/name_m], for the glacier. We had a magical day there when we were getting to know each other. Thank you!

dantea: Look at all those awesome names! Yes, the boy is very much a [name_m]Jack[/name_m], but my nephew has that name (well, a butchered spelling of it) but I can see him as a [name_m]Pip[/name_m], [name_m]Damian[/name_m], [name_u]Desi[/name_u]/[name_m]Des[/name_m], [name_u]Gwyn[/name_u], [name_u]Theo[/name_u]/[name_m]Bear[/name_m]/[name_u]Teddy[/name_u], etc, no? Adding [name_m]Quillon[/name_m], [name_u]Blaise[/name_u], [name_m]Felix[/name_m], Taranus, [name_m]Fritz[/name_m], [name_m]Ivo[/name_m], [name_m]Hawk[/name_m], [name_m]Rainer[/name_m], [name_m]Rune[/name_m], [name_m]Tybalt[/name_m]. [name_m]Man[/name_m], now I’m really questioning my elimination of [name_m]Caspian[/name_m]. Maybe I’ll do a poll, bec. that’s two of you now that says it’s okay. As with [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f]'s post, I’m not going to say why I can’t use all the ones I can’t. [name_f]Love[/name_f] them all, but the others have mostly been used by other people or in my books.

Updated List:

I see you like [name_m]Lysander[/name_m], but you have a pet named Oleander (which is really cool btw); they sound very similar.

So excited you liked some of them! Haha, writing a book! I’m contemplating writing a name blog though…

Ljosalfar is not that complicated really. First of all, you could do Ljosalf instead as Ljosalfar is plural. The L is basically silent, it’s yoos-ahlf(-ahr). You should check out the Lanval story, [name_f]Marie[/name_f] of [name_f]France[/name_f] was one of the first (or maybe she was the first?) who wrote under her own name, not her husband’s.

You caught me in the middle of a post.

charlie: I somehow skipped you, apologies. Yes, nicknames are fine by us. I have lots of nicknames already planned for my munchkins.

liviajoan: [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f] is the only way he could persuade me to love [name_m]Damian[/name_m]. I went into that one kicking and screaming. Once I found a good middle I liked, [name_m]Damian[/name_m] started growing on me. I now like it a lot. Hadn’t noticed the double [name_m]Ander[/name_m] ending in [name_m]Lysander[/name_m] and Oleander. [name_m]Evander[/name_m] has it, too. Yes, that’s a problem I suppose, isn’t it? Oleander isn’t even a year old yet, so there’s a good 20 years of life we still have to share. Not sure how the boys would feel having a middle so similar to the cat. They could love it or hate it. [name_m]Will[/name_m] ponder it. I’m fond of a few sounds in names and find it hard to break out of it. [name_f]Love[/name_f] the Or, [name_f]Ora[/name_f], [name_f]Dora[/name_f] sound for girls, the [name_m]Ion[/name_m], [name_m]Ian[/name_m], En, In, An ending for boys. Sigh. [name_u]Dillon[/name_u] is one I hadn’t ever considered. The others are all on the list, have been eliminated, or are the names of a loved one. Thank you.

[name_f]Ottilie[/name_f]: He speaks one language, so what seems simple enough to someone who speaks several is a stumble for him. I’m fluent in two (English/Spanish), and can grin my way through two others (Italian/Portuguese), and I’ve discovered the brain adjusts to letter combinations that aren’t common (in English) much easier than someone who has only ever known one language. Anyway, the big news tonight is he finally said he’s not really going for two middles. We went over a few of the girls and gave them one middle. I’m not separating Eilonwy and [name_f]Snow[/name_f], so the deal is he gives me Eilonwy as a first. We have over a year before there’s an actual baby to name, so there’s time for me to plead my case with a few combos I feel pretty strongly about keeping with two middles. We’ll see. You should write that blog. I think you have a lot of interesting things to say about names.

Well, one middle is great. [name_f]Thora[/name_f] Silmariën is my favourite, and I’m excited to see [name_m]Peregrin[/name_m] [name_m]Hart[/name_m] in your signature. I’m such a stupidhead, I know not everyone speaks several languages. And I know the Scandinavian ones can be very tricky as there are so many unfamiliar sounds…

I’ll let you know when my blog is up and running. Need a name first ;).

Here’s another vote for [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] to stay!! [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] Katlen is even less of a stretch than [name_m]Kevin[/name_m] Katlen, and you’ve dreamed of the name your whole life. The reward outweighs the risk in my opinion. Perhaps a different middle would help? If I remember correctly, your combo was [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] Llyr, and [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] Llyr Katlen might be more tangled than [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] Katlen or [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] [name_u]Frost[/name_u] Katlen (I swoon over [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] [name_u]Frost[/name_u], btw…he would be on my list this instant if Hubs would agree). [name_m]Just[/name_m] a thought!

I’m almost hesitant to suggest more ideas, because everyone else had such long fabulous lists and I don’t know if I can think of anything off the cuff that you’ve never considered before. Can’t hurt to try though

[name_m]Sirius[/name_m]

Archimedes

Sammael
Tycho
[name_m]Morpheus[/name_m]
[name_m]Solomon[/name_m] – most people think it means wisdom, because of the wise king, but it actually means peace
[name_u]Rigel[/name_u]

[name_u]Shiloh[/name_u]

I’ll be back later to brainstorm combos. Looking forward to seeing your finished lists! With so many options, I know they’ll be breathtaking.

[name_f]Ottilie[/name_f]: the language thing is easy to forget when you speak more than one language. I’ve been trying to teach him Spanish, and he’s doing… okay. I’m trying to show him all the similarities in the two languages before teaching him the differences. Words like actor and animal that are the same, just stressed slightly different. Naming things is harder than naming people/animals, imo. Books, blogs, etc. Are you going with a name theme, or just name blog in general? That’d be a good starting point in the direction of your blog name.

Sessha: Well, you’ve gone and done it. [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] is back on. [name_m]Kevin[/name_m] never had an issue with it, it was me, and apparently three is the magic number of berry approvals I needed. lmao! I think you’re right about [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] Llyr. I still love it, but it’s very far into magical kingdom land. I’ll think on [name_u]Frost[/name_u]. I love the imagery, and the way it tastes in my mouth, but I’m not sure my ears love the sound. [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] is a name I love and he doesn’t. I may just have to let [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] go. There are other battles I’d rather save up for.

I’ve found that suggesting lots of names is helpful. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if a lot of the names are names I’ve considered, sometimes it just takes seeing them again to remember I never gave them enough thought, or wonder how they fell off the list. I really like [name_m]Ptolemy[/name_m], my brother laughed his ass off though and asked if I was planning on having children or Persian cats. Apparently he thinks it’s more suited for a snobby cat.

I think SO would like [name_m]Morpheus[/name_m]. He likes the dark, dangerous, wizard type names as well as angel type names. Names that end in [name_f]EL[/name_f] and US, I just haven’t found many that I thought would work on a modern boy. [name_m]Azrael[/name_m], Copernicus, [name_m]Romulus[/name_m] etc. are names he likes. [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] and [name_m]Raphael[/name_m] are too common in the Spanish community for me to like them, and [name_m]Israel[/name_m] is my brother’s middle name. Any ideas in that direction?

[name_m]Morpheus[/name_m], [name_m]Alasdair[/name_m] (as a first) and [name_f]Tesla[/name_f] are under consideration. I’m going to go ahead and add [name_m]Azrael[/name_m] to the middle because I know he loves it without asking. Baelfire is one of the guiltiest of guilty pleasures for me. I’m saving it for a goat I’ve decided. [name_m]Lucifer[/name_m] and Baelfire. [name_f]Magi[/name_f] and Odyssey are two I’ve never considered and I find them very interesting. Yes, I’ve read Name of the Wind and even met [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] Rothfuss! Well, sat in a panel where he spoke. [name_m]Lev[/name_m] Grossman was there, too. Thanks!

Okay, we’ve done some resorting with the names. Last name sounds like Katlen, and we’re doing one middle only. The only name completely set is [name_m]Damian[/name_m] [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f]. We’re going for nature boy names, but it doesn’t have to be an actual “nature” name. Nature feel is fine. You’re welcome to add to the list if you’re inspired. Nature, word names, mythology, storybook characters are what we’re mostly going for. Thanks.

Here’s an updated list if anyone wants to help out with combos.

Thorondor
[name_m]Ward[/name_m]
[name_m]Wolf[/name_m]
[name_m]Woodrow[/name_m]

Ok, one middle is good. You’ve got a great top ten here. [name_m]Damian[/name_m] [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f] is of course lovely, so I’m glad you’re keeping that one.
I’m trying to do nature/word middles for the legendary romantic names, and epic character names for the others.

[name_m]Caspian[/name_m]
[name_m]Caspian[/name_m]'s all romantic, heroic, warm and sealike to me (I wonder where I got all that from ;)), so I want to pair him up with a short, sun-filled, sparkling middle. I can see [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] playing pooh-sticks with his brothers, defending his tree house fortress and climbing on rocks with scratched knees.
[name_m]Caspian[/name_m] Ambler (this is a place in [name_f]Alaska[/name_f], right? I don’t know anything about it, but it sounds like amber so it fits for me)
[name_m]Caspian[/name_m] [name_u]Bay[/name_u]
[name_m]Caspian[/name_m] [name_m]Cove[/name_m] (too many k-sounds?)
[name_m]Caspian[/name_m] [name_m]Hart[/name_m]
[name_m]Caspian[/name_m] Llyr
[name_m]Caspian[/name_m] [name_m]Lynx[/name_m]

[name_m]Clive[/name_m]
[name_m]Clive[/name_m]'s cliffs (duh), rain and wind. He’s a hunter, an explorer, a woodsman. Someone with knife skills. I love him with long, romantic, strong middles.
[name_m]Clive[/name_m] Aragorn
[name_m]Clive[/name_m] Bedivere
[name_m]Clive[/name_m] Galahad
[name_m]Clive[/name_m] Hyperion
[name_m]Clive[/name_m] Melynlas
[name_m]Clive[/name_m] Thorondor

[name_m]Corbett[/name_m]
[name_m]Corbett[/name_m]'s quite romantic and reminds me of forests and creeks. He’s a fisher, skipping through rivers, sailing his little bark boats down the stream. I’m pairing him with gentle middles.
[name_m]Corbett[/name_m] Eärendil
[name_m]Corbett[/name_m] Faramir
[name_m]Corbett[/name_m] [name_m]Gawain[/name_m]
[name_m]Corbett[/name_m] [name_m]Ivanhoe[/name_m]
[name_m]Corbett[/name_m] Melynlas
[name_m]Corbett[/name_m] [name_m]Navarro[/name_m]

[name_m]Desmond[/name_m]
[name_m]Desmond[/name_m]'s so romantic and medieval, a very knightly name. Forests, wind in his hair, horses. [name_m]Desmond[/name_m] sounds good with almost anything.
[name_m]Desmond[/name_m] [name_m]Cove[/name_m]
[name_m]Desmond[/name_m] Eärendil
[name_m]Desmond[/name_m] Finvarra
[name_m]Desmond[/name_m] [name_m]Hart[/name_m]
[name_m]Desmond[/name_m] Melynlas
[name_m]Desmond[/name_m] [name_m]Rune[/name_m]
[name_m]Desmond[/name_m] Strider

Gwydion
Gwydion’s magical and strange, I want glittery nature middles for him. Gwydion’s definitely a climber and an explorer, of anything and everything.
Gwydion [name_u]Bay[/name_u]
Gwydion [name_m]Cove[/name_m]
Gwydion [name_m]Hart[/name_m]
Gwydion [name_m]Lynx[/name_m]
Gwydion [name_m]Quest[/name_m]

[name_m]Jorah[/name_m]
[name_m]Jorah[/name_m] is pretty fabulous. I love me a moon and dew God, and I like his association with stars. I definitely see him as a star gazer, a midnight boy, someone who loves snow, glaciers, starshine and tranquility. I want him with romantic, blue and silvery middles.
[name_m]Jorah[/name_m] Eärendil
[name_m]Jorah[/name_m] Faramir
[name_m]Jorah[/name_m] Hyperion
[name_m]Jorah[/name_m] Melynlas
[name_m]Jorah[/name_m] [name_m]Quest[/name_m]

[name_m]Malachi[/name_m]
[name_m]Malachi[/name_m] and [name_m]Jorah[/name_m] actually gives me the same feeling. [name_m]Malachi[/name_m]'s tender and sweet and very snowy and twinkly.
[name_m]Malachi[/name_m] [name_m]Cove[/name_m]
[name_m]Malachi[/name_m] [name_u]Frost[/name_u]
[name_m]Malachi[/name_m] [name_m]Hart[/name_m]
[name_m]Malachi[/name_m] [name_m]Odin[/name_m]
[name_m]Malachi[/name_m] [name_m]Rune[/name_m]

[name_m]Peregrin[/name_m]
Now here’s a boy who will strap on his boots and go hiking in the mountains. [name_m]Peregrin[/name_m]'s all adventure, happiness and fun. I want short and charming middles for [name_m]Peregrin[/name_m].
[name_m]Peregrin[/name_m] [name_m]Bjorn[/name_m]
[name_m]Peregrin[/name_m] [name_m]Hart[/name_m]
[name_m]Peregrin[/name_m] Iorek
[name_m]Peregrin[/name_m] [name_m]Lynx[/name_m]
[name_m]Peregrin[/name_m] [name_m]Quest[/name_m]

[name_m]Theodore[/name_m]
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m]'s romantic and charming, and so versatile any middle will do. Almost. [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]'s jumping in muddy puddles, catching frogs and collecting twigs.
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_u]Bay[/name_u]
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Hart[/name_m]
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Huckleberry[/name_m]
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] Lyulf
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] Melynlas
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Odin[/name_m]

I just had a thought! I’m digging up middles for my girls and I think these two are just as good for boy as for girls; Rivendell and Imladris!

[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] Imladris and [name_m]Malachi[/name_m] Rivendell?

[name_m]Caspian[/name_m] – I love love [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] this name. In addition to the Narnian associations, he feels very gentleman privateer to me, all adventure and high seas. I love the word names with him, especially the ones that feel piratey.
[name_m]Caspian[/name_m] [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] (my favorite, but realize it’s probably too much with Katlen)
[name_m]Caspian[/name_m] Earendil
[name_m]Caspian[/name_m] Finglas (makes me think of spyglass)
[name_m]Caspian[/name_m] [name_m]Fox[/name_m]
[name_m]Caspian[/name_m] [name_u]Frost[/name_u]
[name_m]Caspian[/name_m] [name_m]Hawk[/name_m]
[name_m]Caspian[/name_m] [name_m]Heron[/name_m]
[name_m]Caspian[/name_m] [name_m]Wolf[/name_m]

[name_m]Clive[/name_m] – The meaning is beautiful. Too much Codex Alera makes me think of slives, but putting aside that association, the name feels both rugged and hopeful, and slightly windswept. For that, and for the shortness, I think he needs middles with texture and movement.
[name_m]Clive[/name_m] Aragorn
[name_m]Clive[/name_m] Faramir
[name_m]Clive[/name_m] Galahad
[name_m]Clive[/name_m] Pendragon
[name_m]Clive[/name_m] [name_f]Tesla[/name_f]
[name_m]Clive[/name_m] Thorondor

[name_m]Corbett[/name_m] – I immediately think of [name_u]Corban[/name_u] [name_u]Dallas[/name_u] from 5th Element, so this name conjures the same quirky sci-fi vibe, tempered by the soft T’s and the raven imagery. I prefer him with the nature-heavy middles, but not using the ones that start with B, C/K, P or T sounds, so that limits the selection. I think he works equally with short and long.
[name_m]Corbett[/name_m] [name_m]Fox[/name_m]
[name_m]Corbett[/name_m] [name_u]Frost[/name_u]
[name_m]Corbett[/name_m] Hyperion (love this…it’s so sci-fi without being blatant)
[name_m]Corbett[/name_m] Lyulf
[name_m]Corbett[/name_m] [name_m]Navarro[/name_m]
[name_m]Corbett[/name_m] [name_m]Rune[/name_m]
[name_m]Corbett[/name_m] Thorondor

[name_m]Desmond[/name_m] – So very dashing! Like someone took [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Dresden[/name_m], the wizardly bad@ss, and suaved him up a notch. I like him with the sharper-edged names, for the contrast of a cool smooth exterior with piercing keen eyes.
[name_m]Desmond[/name_m] [name_m]Atlas[/name_m]
[name_m]Desmond[/name_m] [name_m]Caradoc[/name_m]
[name_m]Desmond[/name_m] [name_m]Cove[/name_m]
[name_m]Desmond[/name_m] [name_m]Fox[/name_m]
[name_m]Desmond[/name_m] [name_m]Gawain[/name_m] (softer than the others, but I couldn’t resist the gallant gentleman vibe)
[name_m]Desmond[/name_m] [name_m]Hawk[/name_m]
[name_m]Desmond[/name_m] Iorek
[name_m]Desmond[/name_m] Kestrel
[name_m]Desmond[/name_m] Llyr
[name_m]Desmond[/name_m] [name_m]Thorne[/name_m]
[name_m]Desmond[/name_m] [name_m]Wolf[/name_m]

Gwydion – A very golden lion-hearted sort of name, all virtue and honor, [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] and Camelot. It’s going to be difficult to avoid names like Galahad, [name_m]Gawain[/name_m], and Pendragon! But I don’t want to smush too much [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] into one combo. Logic says he’d pair best with the short names, but I can’t resist the more elaborate fantasy options.
Gwydion Earendil
Gwydion Faramir
Gwydion Iorek
Gwydion [name_m]Kester[/name_m]
Gwydion Llyr (this might be my favorite! They have the same golden sunlit corona, the rhythm is perfect, and I love the way they look written out together, with the shared Y…!)
Gwydion [name_m]Quest[/name_m]
Gwydion [name_m]Thorne[/name_m]
Gwydion Thorondor

[name_m]Jorah[/name_m] – The beautiful, fresh meaning combined with the dusty, gritty, loyal GoT character makes me associate this name with oases in the desert.
[name_m]Jorah[/name_m] [name_m]Bjorn[/name_m]
[name_m]Jorah[/name_m] Finvarra
[name_m]Jorah[/name_m] Galahad
[name_m]Jorah[/name_m] [name_m]Kester[/name_m]
[name_m]Jorah[/name_m] [name_m]Lynx[/name_m]
[name_m]Jorah[/name_m] Lyulf
[name_m]Jorah[/name_m] [name_m]Navarro[/name_m] (definitely my favorite [name_m]Jorah[/name_m] pick. [name_m]Navarro[/name_m] makes me think of the Navajo, and gives me the same powerful imagery as [name_m]Jorah[/name_m]. I’m almost tempted to delete all my other suggestions because this one is just too perfect!)
[name_m]Jorah[/name_m] Pendragon

[name_m]Malachi[/name_m] – I have mad love for [name_m]Malachi[/name_m]! As you can see, I’ve paired him with [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f], but your [name_m]Damien[/name_m] [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f] combo is just as fabulous. (We really do have similar taste in names!!) [name_m]Malachi[/name_m] simultaneously makes me think of a wise old prophet, a powerful warrior in a fantasy land, and a cheeky little brother with unruly brown hair and a sort of quick fluid energy about him.
[name_m]Malachi[/name_m] [name_u]Bay[/name_u] (too close to [name_m]Michael[/name_m] [name_u]Bay[/name_u]?)
[name_m]Malachi[/name_m] [name_m]Bjorn[/name_m]
[name_m]Malachi[/name_m] Earendil
[name_m]Malachi[/name_m] Faramir
[name_m]Malachi[/name_m] [name_m]Fox[/name_m]
[name_m]Malachi[/name_m] [name_u]Frost[/name_u]
[name_m]Malachi[/name_m] [name_m]Odin[/name_m]
[name_m]Malachi[/name_m] [name_m]Rune[/name_m] (love this one, the flow is just too fun! Like it’s all one name sort of, a swift-flowing brook bubbling over itself)
[name_m]Malachi[/name_m] Rivendell (because I agree with Otter)

[name_m]Peregrin[/name_m] – So much charm to this name…A [name_m]Peregrin[/name_m] is forever hopeful, cheery, and fresh, with a beautiful innocent soul. I can see him paired with some of your more whimsical options.
[name_m]Peregrin[/name_m] Ambler (makes me think of a leisurely nature walk…“he ambled along…”)
[name_m]Peregrin[/name_m] [name_m]Hale[/name_m]
[name_m]Peregrin[/name_m] [name_m]Hart[/name_m]
[name_m]Peregrin[/name_m] [name_m]Huckleberry[/name_m]
[name_m]Peregrin[/name_m] [name_m]Ivanhoe[/name_m]
[name_m]Peregrin[/name_m] Knik
[name_m]Peregrin[/name_m] [name_u]Story[/name_u]
[name_m]Peregrin[/name_m] [name_f]Tesla[/name_f]

[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] – [name_u]Teddy[/name_u]!! I love how a name can be both dignified and cuddly at the same time. I like him with edgy nature-rich names as well as quirky and vintage options.
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Atlas[/name_m]
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Byron[/name_m]
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Hart[/name_m]
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Huckleberry[/name_m]
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] Kestrel
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] Knik
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Lynx[/name_m]
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Quest[/name_m]
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Wolf[/name_m]
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Woodrow[/name_m]

This was loads of fun! Can’t wait to see what you decide on!
