Like the title says, Im wondering what you guys think about Lailan? Its a name that’s on my shortlist for boys. It’s a unisex Arabic name that means 2 nights (pronounce LAY-lan). I think its a nice masculine leaning alternative for the super popular [name_f]Leila[/name_f]/Laila/Layla.
Im worried about pronunciation though, how you guys would pronounce it at first glance, LIE-lan or LAY-lan. And which pronunciation do you prefer?
I pronounced it lay-lan when I read it! I think it’s such a handsome, lovely name. I’ve never heard of it before, but I love [name_f]Laila[/name_f], and think this is a really beautiful masculine alternative! It has such a nice sound to it, I really like it. It seems like the type of name to constantly get compliments
Right now it looks like a girls name – [name_f]Leilani[/name_f]? [name_f]Delilah[/name_f]? [name_f]Leila[/name_f]? [name_f]Kayla[/name_f] / [name_f]Kaila[/name_f] ?
I think the spelling is problematic but easily fixed by making its spelling closer in line with more familiar names with similar pronunciations, like:
Lailan is very cool–a nice mix of bright and gentle sounds. I didn’t know how to pronounce it before I opened the thread, but I think I would’ve guessed LIE-lan; it’s definitely an easy correction, though!
