[name_m]Burt[/name_m] or [name_u]Bert[/name_u] for [name_m]Robert[/name_m] have been on my mind. Maybe hearing [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] on girls had made me think about the idea of a [name_m]Burt[/name_m] who could be called Burdie while growing into his more adult name. I think [name_m]Burt[/name_m] is kind of great & forgotten but such a good strong name. [name_m]Burt[/name_m]'s Bees & [name_m]Burt[/name_m] [name_m]Reynolds[/name_m] are my only associations that come to mind straight away and neither feel negative. What do you think?
It means ‘bright’, which is nice. I’d prefer [name_m]Robert[/name_m] /[name_m]Rob[/name_m] or [name_u]Robbie[/name_u]. I think of an old actor/character from a [name_f]Shirley[/name_f] [name_u]Temple[/name_u] movie (The [name_m]Little[/name_m] [name_f]Princess[/name_f]). Definitely vintage.
That’s a cute namesake!
I like it. I think it’s a strong, masculine name and Burdie is a cute nickname.
I’m giving this advice as someone who has a close friend named [name_m]Burt[/name_m] (with that spelling)
I’d honestly shy away from the [name_u]Bert[/name_u] spelling as to children or teenagers at least, there is the ‘[name_m]Ernie[/name_m] and [name_u]Bert[/name_u]’ from [name_f]Sesame[/name_f] [name_m]Street[/name_m] sub context and there were some homosexual meme’s about that going on which may be a bit much for teenage boys who are coming into their own and not yet comfortable with who they are as yet.
It was never bullying persay… it was just a some slight teasing he got growing up.
There’s also the [name_m]Burton[/name_m] route to get to [name_m]Burt[/name_m]
Personally I don’t care for it. I think it’s very blah. [name_m]Robert[/name_m] is a lovely name but if it were me I’d stick with [name_m]Rob[/name_m].
Ehhhhhh…no. I automatically thought “[name_u]Bert[/name_u] and [name_m]Ernie[/name_m],” so it’s right up there with [name_m]Elmo[/name_m] and [name_m]Grover[/name_m] as names I’d never use on a child. [name_u]Bert[/name_u] also comes with an unfortunate bodily noise soundalike word. Sorry, I vote thumbs-down.
I think of [name_m]Burt[/name_m]'s Bees (not terrible, they make my favorite shampoo and lip balm - haha!) and [name_u]Bert[/name_u] & [name_m]Ernie[/name_m] from [name_f]Sesame[/name_f] [name_m]Street[/name_m] (I suppose that’s not really terrible, either, but more of a deal-breaker for me…[name_u]Bert[/name_u] is kinda weird…). I like [name_m]Robert[/name_m] all on its own, or [name_m]Rob[/name_m] if it has to be shortened. I think [name_m]Burton[/name_m] nn [name_m]Burt[/name_m] is an interesting suggestion, worth considering.
It’s so funny, but I didn’t think of the “and [name_m]Ernie[/name_m]” association at all! We don’t have TV & while we sometimes play a show on the computer for my daughter, I feel like [name_u]Bert[/name_u] & [name_m]Ernie[/name_m] never had screen time when we’ve watched [name_f]Sesame[/name_f] [name_m]Street[/name_m] episodes!
I think [name_u]Bertie[/name_u] is a cute nn for [name_m]Robert[/name_m].
As a name though [name_m]Burt[/name_m]/[name_u]Bert[/name_u] feels very stagnant to me.
I immediately think of [name_m]Burt[/name_m] and [name_m]Ernie[/name_m], and of dozens of old men I’ve known with the name.
I just don’t find it particularly pleasant–burp, hurt, pert, etc.
[name_m]Burt[/name_m] is Adorable I did not think of the bert and ernie association with the [name_m]Burt[/name_m] spelling, only with the [name_u]Bert[/name_u] spelling did I make that association.
It’s true, they aren’t really major characters on [name_f]Sesame[/name_f] [name_m]Street[/name_m] anymore. I guess it’s probably adults who would have that association more than kids. Maybe this generation will associate it with [name_u]Bertie[/name_u] Botts every flavor beans from [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m]. (Yeah, I’m a nerd. LOL!)
Another association I don’t get! I’ve never seen/read [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m]!
