Thoughts on a middle name?

Hello again!

I’ve been searching for a combo I love for a future fourth and final baby. First name is [name_f]Mila[/name_f] and we would like to use [name_f]Elizaveta[/name_f] as a middle. I have been all over Nameberry listing potential options and have come to you a few times already. There are a few I’m toying with but my main issue is repeating sounds. Names that end in -a don’t flow particularly well between [name_f]Mila[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizaveta[/name_f]. Names heavy with Ls are a bit of a tongue twister. And apparently, I love names that have -el, -la, and -et within them. Who knew! So I’m having trouble with “this flows best” vs. “I love this name and don’t want to lose it” and “I don’t want to settle for a less loved name that flows better” so I’m determined to make this work! Also, considering how Slavic [name_f]Mila[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizaveta[/name_f] are already, I’m unsure of a heavily Slavic name (even though I am) as my other children’s names are not.

I know someone, for instance, who has a daughter with a name like [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] [name_u]Peyton[/name_u] [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]. And the double -ia always gave me pause. Is that me being fussy?

At the moment, my options are:

[name_f]Mila[/name_f] [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] [name_f]Elizaveta[/name_f] - I’m just not excited. [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] was a contender during my first pregnancy but it’s not fresh and sparkly to me anymore. However, it probably flows best.

[name_f]Mila[/name_f] [name_f]Ania[/name_f] [name_f]Elizaveta[/name_f] - I prefer [name_f]Anya[/name_f], but I feel the extra syllable in the -ia helps. [name_f]Ania[/name_f] is also Polish instead of Russian [name_f]Anya[/name_f], and my background is Polish not Russian, so I don’t know. Again, sister is [name_f]Kate[/name_f] [name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], so not Slavic at all. Is that bad?

[name_f]Mila[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Elizaveta[/name_f] - I love [name_f]Violet[/name_f]. I want to use it. But is the -et a deal-breaker? Or is it not that big of a deal and I’m creating problems when it’s fine?

[name_f]Mila[/name_f] [name_f]Elizaveta[/name_f] [name_f]Morgana[/name_f] - [name_f]Morgana[/name_f] is special to me for personal reasons but I don’t know if I can get my husband on board. It’s a double M and another -a name but it goes nicely with [name_f]Freya[/name_f].

[name_f]Mila[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Elizaveta[/name_f] - Is it too soft stylistically? [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] is a long-time love.

Other names I’ve considered: [name_f]Lilith[/name_f], [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f], [name_f]Persephone[/name_f], [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f], [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Claire[/name_f], [name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_f]Alaina[/name_f], [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] and probably others I can’t think of now. I’ve made good use of Nameberry’s Name Generator, lol.

Thoughts? Are any of these combos any good? Which would you choose? Is [name_f]Violet[/name_f] out or is it not that bad?

Right now I’m leaning between [name_f]Mila[/name_f] [name_f]Ania[/name_f] [name_f]Elizaveta[/name_f] and [name_f]Mila[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Elizaveta[/name_f] but I’m so indecisive and unsure. Any perspective would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again!

My favorites are also [name_f]Mila[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Elizaveta[/name_f] and [name_f]Mila[/name_f] [name_f]Ania[/name_f] [name_f]Elizaveta[/name_f]! I love [name_f]Mila[/name_f], btw.

[name_m]How[/name_m] are you saying [name_f]Ania[/name_f]? I know an [name_f]Ania[/name_f] whose family is Polish and she says it identical to [name_f]Anya[/name_f]. I have a personal negative association to [name_f]Anya[/name_f] but the [name_f]Ania[/name_f] spelling is super cool.

I also love [name_f]Violet[/name_f]. FWIW, it took me a second to realize what you meant by the “et” thing. I think it has the best flow out of all the combos and I like how [name_f]Violet[/name_f] softens the unusual and elaborate [name_f]Elizaveta[/name_f].

I think my favorite is [name_f]Violet[/name_f]. [name_f]Kate[/name_f] [name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] and [name_f]Mila[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Elizaveta[/name_f] are perfect as sisters!

Fellow Slavic woman here.

[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Mila[/name_f] [name_f]Eliska[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f]? if not, my vote goes to [name_f]Mila[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Elizaveta[/name_f]

I don’t think any name has to be Slavic, nor Russian, unless it’s both’s decision. and flow isn’t most important, it’s how you feel about the combo about the names.

What beautiful choices! Here are my thoughts:

[name_f]Mila[/name_f] [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] [name_f]Elizaveta[/name_f] - don’t use [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] if you’re not excited about it. I actually like the flow of this one the least.

[name_f]Mila[/name_f] [name_f]Ania[/name_f] [name_f]Elizaveta[/name_f] - I do agree that this flows better than [name_f]Anya[/name_f] would even though it’s slightly more of a mouthful. It’s a very beautiful combination. I’m not exactly sure about the pronunciation of [name_f]Ania[/name_f], but I’m guessing you’ll be the only ones to really use her middle name. I don’t think it matters at all that [name_f]Kate[/name_f]’s name isn’t Slavic. I think they will be lovely together.

[name_f]Mila[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Elizaveta[/name_f] - This is my favorite one. I don’t think -et is a dealbreaker at all. It sounds and looks amazing altogether. I think [name_f]Mila[/name_f] [name_f]Elizaveta[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] maybe flows even better, except then the -veta and [name_f]Violet[/name_f] kind of sound repetitive. Either way, it’s stunning.

[name_f]Mila[/name_f] [name_f]Elizaveta[/name_f] [name_f]Morgana[/name_f] - Because of the length, the double-m, and the a-endings, this one to me gives less emphasis on each individual name because they seem to flow into each other. So that could be both negative and positive I guess. [name_f]Morgana[/name_f] isn’t my favorite, but it sounds really nice in this combo.

[name_f]Mila[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Elizaveta[/name_f] - Gorgeous. It’s very feminine and soft, but not in a bad way.

I wouldn’t worry about [name_f]Mila[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizaveta[/name_f] both having a-endings unless it really sounds bad to you, which I’m guessing it doesn’t since you picked the names. I think they are beautiful together. And I wouldn’t worry about the names being too Slavic. I didn’t even know [name_f]Mila[/name_f] was Slavic. It sounds great with [name_f]Kate[/name_f].

Thanks so much for your comments. I’m so relieved, I was expecting to hear that [name_f]Violet[/name_f] was totally off the table, and instead the reaction was very positive. I really appreciate you taking the time to chime in!

What about [name_f]Mila[/name_f] [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] or [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Elizaveta[/name_f]? I think [name_f]Violet[/name_f] works too, just the V is a little repetitive.

My favourite is definitely [name_f]Mila[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Elizaveta[/name_f] – that flows beautifully to me and I think the softness of [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] balances the spikiness of [name_f]Elizaveta[/name_f] perfectly.

It sounds like your favourite is [name_f]Mila[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Elizaveta[/name_f], and I like that too. [name_f]Violet[/name_f] is a great name, and the flow is fine – definitely not worth losing a longtime favourite name over. [name_f]Mila[/name_f] [name_f]Elizaveta[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] also flows nicely, I think.

I speak Polish, and [name_f]Ania[/name_f] is indeed pronounced exactly like [name_f]Anya[/name_f] in Polish – two syllables. [name_f]Mila[/name_f] [name_f]Anya[/name_f] [name_f]Elizaveta[/name_f] is very pretty but yes, very Slavic overall.

To me, [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] and [name_f]Morgana[/name_f] are both a) a little bit too long for the combo and b) a bit of a stylistic clash with the other two names in the combo.

Good luck choosing!

@sarah1800 Both are nice names, just not favourites. I do see what you mean though about the vs.

@katinka [name_m]Ah[/name_m] okay. I was pronouncing it wrong then. Good to know, thanks for telling me!

Thanks again for all of your comments! I’m feeling a lot better about it now!

I LOVE the name [name_f]Elizaveta[/name_f]! I really like the sound of [name_f]Mila[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Elizaveta[/name_f]!!
