I kind of like the name [name_m]Abram[/name_m] for a baby boy but I’m wondering what your thoughts are on that. My husband thinks the name sounds Jewish and we are not. Certainly we have nothing against any religion but we aren’t sure if it would be inappropriate or somehow offensive to choose a Hebrew name for our baby?
I know an [name_m]Abram[/name_m] who is 10-years-old. His parents are pastors, which people just sort of seem to assume when they meet him for the first time. Anyhow, I love his name and think it is a stylish, handsome, underused name for a boy these days. I don’t personally view it as offensive to use, but then again, I’m not Jewish…but, as far as I am aware, it doesn’t belong to any certain sacred figure nor is it a sacred title.
Maybe just [name_m]Bram[/name_m] could be a solution?
Not a fan
I like the name [name_m]Abram[/name_m] and it doesn’t immediately seem religious to me.
I really like [name_m]Abram[/name_m] too, but I’m having the same debate with myself of if its too religious for a non-religious family. I think its a strong name, yet unusual but not weird which is why I love it. My fiance really loved [name_m]Abraham[/name_m] too but I much prefer the short yet strong [name_m]Abram[/name_m].
[name_m]Abram[/name_m] doesn’t seem overtly religious to me.
It’s okay, but I prefer just [name_m]Bram[/name_m] by a mile. I don’t think [name_m]Abram[/name_m] sounds particularly Jewish, but it does sound very religious to me, and I’d assume the parents were very religious (either Jewish or [name_m]Christian[/name_m]).
I really like [name_m]Abram[/name_m], and nicknames [name_m]Abe[/name_m] and [name_m]Bram[/name_m]. It’s a little religiousy to me, either [name_m]Christian[/name_m] or Jewish. But way less so than [name_m]Abraham[/name_m], which I also actually really like!
Really getting to like this, mainly because of the nn [name_m]Bram[/name_m]. I would think of other Biblical names like [name_m]Elijah[/name_m], [name_m]Judah[/name_m], and [name_m]Gideon[/name_m], which certainly aren’t exclusively used by Jewish people or “religious” people. Sounds pretty cool and modern to me, the sort of name that would catch on.
Such a good point, I have friends with boys named [name_m]Levi[/name_m] and [name_m]Jonah[/name_m], both from the Old Testament and I’ve never thought they sounded too religious. Thanks for that.
