Thoughts on Adelaida

I feel like it’s sort of a beautiful name but it doesn’t seem too common, and I’d like to hear other people’s thoughts. I found out about it while reading “The Idiot” by Dostoevsky.

It is a Russian, Spanish and Italian name, I think. Also Czech and Catalan.
used to love [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] (a-deh-LIE-deh in my language) but I did not like her much anymore, but I found about [name_f]Adelaida[/name_f] (a-deh-LIE-da or a-deh-la-EE-da) and it gives me the same feelings and vibes the name [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] used to give me in the past: elegant, literary, spunky but with a bonus of being fresh yet academic, with a touch of regality. Very Pan-European. [name_m]Even[/name_m] feels a bit boho artistic like Marsida (actually it gives me a mix of vibes of Marsida, boho artistic and [name_f]Leonor[/name_f], strong regal academic)

That’s the Greek version of [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] as well - to be honest, I find the ah-deh-lah-EE-dah pronunciation quite unattractive, there’s just something quite clunky about it to my ears  But ah-deh-LIE-dah is nice! I think I prefer the simplicity of [name_f]Adela[/name_f], but I do like Adelaida’s intrigue and romantic feel.

I dont mind it but I asked my mom and she and I quote said “stupid people”. I think its cool

To me, it’s the best version of the name, and I prefer the Italian pronunciation. In the US it would be good for urban/boho areas, especially as you mentioned, in Pan-European areas. Outside of that, in the US, unfortunately, she’d end up with all the other Addies (Addalyn, [name_u]Addyson[/name_u], etc).

I wouldn’t hesitate to use it were I living outside of the US.

I actually really love the a-deh-la-EE-da pronunciation! It’s a pretty name, and it feels very much your style.

Oh my goodness, I positively adore the name [name_f]Adelaida[/name_f], especially for you! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: She is such a lovely, underused hidden gem of a name, and especially shines with the pronunciation a-deh-LIE-da! (Would you nickname her, out of curiosity? [name_f]Ada[/name_f], perhaps?) I quite appreciate how multicultural and versatile her name is, too. She seems like a perfect addition to your list, and you seem to think so as well, perhaps, given your lovely description of her! She encompasses so many things, and is a more elevated variant of [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], in my humble opinion (not that [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] is not stunning in her own right :slightly_smiling_face:). I envy you so, as I wish I could use her! I would say keep her on your list. With her literary cred, and all of the vibes she gives you, I think she is too precious to let slip away! :yellow_heart: I hope my opinion sways you in her favor!

I would pronunce her a-deh-LIE-da and not a-deh-la-ee-da, yes. Not sure of which nickname to use, I have been thinking [name_f]Ada[/name_f] or [name_f]Adela[/name_f], but if someone else here has other creative ideas they are welcome. [name_f]Ada[/name_f] and [name_f]Adela[/name_f] are the most intuitive nicknames I could think of and [name_f]Adela[/name_f] is another name in my list so [name_f]Adelaida[/name_f] “Adela” might get the best of the two worlds. [name_f]Ada[/name_f] is an honour for [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_u]Lovelace[/name_u], too, and a nice nickname.

I adore [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_u]Lovelace[/name_u]! That is partially why I am choosing an [name_u]Adel[/name_u]- name of my own for my list, as well! I think Laida (LIE-da, it reminds me of lilacs ) would be an interesting choice, but [name_f]Ada[/name_f] would tie into her namesake more. [name_f]Adela[/name_f] is very pretty as well, and there is always Dela/Della if you are looking for something quite feminine but still simple. :slightly_smiling_face: Whatever you choose, it will be lovely, of that I am certain!

I have also thought of [name_f]Lella[/name_f] (to use as a familiar / friend nickname!)
I got inspired from my friend, [name_f]Allegra[/name_f] “Lella”

I think [name_f]Adelaida[/name_f] is fabulous!! Very pretty, and quite a cool literary tie!! I personally prefer the a-deh-LIE-da pronunciation, and I like [name_f]Lella[/name_f] / [name_f]Laidy[/name_f] / [name_f]Laila[/name_f] as a nn!!

Thank you all for your responses. I seriously was very worried that this name would get negative responses since I posted it in another forum and I got somehow weird comments about it

[name_u]Lucky[/name_u] you! I’d move to Busseto if I could.
