Thoughts on Adelaide

At the weekend, my partner and I, while visiting a historical cemetery on a camping road trip, came upon the name [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]. While I’ve always loved the name myself, I’ve wondered if it would be odd being Australian, and not having any connection to the city… My partner expressed upon seeing the name that he really liked it and it wouldn’t be weird at all (he rarely contributes anything to name-talk so it was a pretty big deal) so I’ve been thinking on it more. He would only ever call her [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] in full as he prefers not to use nicknames himself, however, I like the idea of short, sweet and simple little “[name_f]Ada[/name_f]”.

What are your thoughts on [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]?

I think it’s a beautiful name! I’m not Australian, but I don’t think it’s a big deal. Here in the US, people use city/state names like [name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u], [name_u]Cheyenne[/name_u], or [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] all the time just because they like the sound and no one thinks it’s particularly strange.

I love [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]! So full of flair, frilly but not too frilly, distinctive but familiar. I think it feels very namey so i believe it could work in Australia

I like it. I have a friend who named her daughter that and her nick name is [name_f]Addie[/name_f].

I really like [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]! I associate it with the actress [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_m]Kane[/name_m], who I believe is Australian. [name_f]Ada[/name_f] is a darling nickname.

[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] is gorgeous! I agree with an above poster that it is namey enough to work in Australia

It’s not my style, but I think it’s a fine name that would work well.

I’m an Aussie and I love [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] as a name. I don’t think it’s strange at all. It was a female name prior to being a city, after all. So really the city has a woman’s name, not the other way around. I know an [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], growing up she went by [name_f]Addie[/name_f] as a kid and [name_u]Dell[/name_u] as a teen, but I love [name_f]Ada[/name_f] as well. It’s beautiful.

I adore [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]! It’s my favorite A name for a girl. It’s really fun to say and sounds really sweet and distinctive. The only thing holding me back is the thought of people calling her [name_f]Addie[/name_f] which I really don’t like. [name_f]Ada[/name_f] is a really cool nickname!

I love love [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]! It’s just fun to say out loud, plus tons of nickname-ability if you’re into nicknames (I’m partial to [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] which is much less intuitive than [name_f]Ada[/name_f]). [name_f]Ada[/name_f] is very nice as well. I don’t think that [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] also being a city is that big of a deal. I know plenty of kids named [name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u], [name_u]Sydney[/name_u], [name_m]Orlando[/name_m], [name_f]Georgia[/name_f], etc. so I don’t think [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] would raise any major flags

Thank you all for sharing your thoughts on [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]. I appreciate it. I’m still really loving it, and the idea of affectionately referring to her as ‘our little Lady’.
