I think it’s fun and has a gentle fantasy vibe.
I like [name_m]Alistair[/name_m] a lot (this is my favorite spelling too). I think it’s handsome, strong but soft, and has lovely imagery. [name_f]My[/name_f] first association is the character from the Dragon Age video games, but that’s a very positive association for me 
It just made me like the name more!

I have seen it spelled different ways (Alastair, Alister - your child may have to spell it a fair bit if in the U.S.), but the way you have it is best and a good choice.
