We are expecting our second child after our 2-year-old named L.ucille. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband has fallen in love with a name from his family tree, [name_f]Alma[/name_f]. I like it, and I love that it is perfectly bilingual (same spelling in [name_m]French[/name_m] and [name_f]English[/name_f], and used in a variety of languages as well). However, it is also the name of a small touristic town in our province, as well as another town in my province of origin. In our local stats, the name is not popular so I think people would think about the town first.

Would that bother you? What are your thoughts on [name_f]Alma[/name_f]? Does it go well with Lu.cille?
oh, i love alma. she’s got a gentle timelessness to her and such a sweet meaning and sound. in my opinion, i wouldn’t mind so much about the tourist town near you, especially if i truly loved alma for my little one. she might even see it as an ode to where she was born and raised!
[name_f][/name_f]
alma is absolutely perfect with big sister’s name as well. they sound like they’re frolicking through wildflowers together!
I love [name_f]Alma[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- gentle, warm, and versatile [name_f][/name_f]- and I like it with L’s name
[name_f][/name_f]
I’d ponder a few things in terms of the places:
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f]
are those places negatively viewed?
[name_f][/name_f]
could you ask someone who lives near you what they thought? do they immediately think of the place? do they find it weird?
[name_f][/name_f]
can you imagine saying ‘no, it’s actually a name from husband’s family tree?’ if someone asked if it was inspired by the place [name_f][/name_f]- or does that feel too much?
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f]
I think it helps that [name_f]Alma[/name_f] is established separately as a name, but I guess you just have to decide if people associating it with a place will always frustrate you?
[name_f]Alma[/name_f] is absolutely darling, I just love her with Lu.cille!! She’s so vintage and cozy! I don’t think the connection to the tourist town is a big deal if you’re really in love with the name. I say go for it!
I think [name_f]Alma[/name_f] is lovely. Such a sweet, warm name that feels soft, soulful and grounded. A lovely vintage choice that sounds very in keeping stylistically with your older daughter’s name. Regarding the place name I think the points raised by @Greyblue[name_f][/name_f] are very valid so I would take that on board.
[name_f]Alma[/name_f] is perfect with your daughter’s name! [name_f][/name_f] I do prefer [name_f]Alba[/name_f] to [name_f]Alma[/name_f] personally, but Alma’s meaning is lovely and it is so warm and sweet with Luc!lle!
[name_f][/name_f]
I do think I might be hesitant to use [name_f]Alma[/name_f] if it’s the name of a tourist town near you, but otherwise it’s a lovely name! [name_f][/name_f] I think [name_f]Alba[/name_f] and [name_f]Alva[/name_f] would be lovely alternatives for [name_f]Alma[/name_f], but I do like [name_f]Alma[/name_f] better with your daughter’s name.
