[name_u]Honest[/name_u] thoughts, putting popularity aside, how do you feel about [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]? Nicknames [name_f]Mia[/name_f], [name_f]Amie[/name_f]?
Bringing popularity back in… Would you use a hyper popular name? If you loved it? If it fit well with sibs and your surname?
I find it a slightly sticky sounding name like, it’s okay, but it reminds me of tree sap. And yet, I like [name_u]Ami[/name_u], [name_f]Mimi[/name_f], [name_f]Millie[/name_f], [name_f]Mia[/name_f] - and [name_f]Amelie[/name_f]!
I wouldn’t personally use it, as I’ve had three close friends over the years with the name, and, because working with kids and teens, I have met, so, so, so many Amelias. I probably wouldn’t use a super popular name (because of working with kids etc) but then again, maybe if I really, really loved it (like [name_u]Florence[/name_u] - or Henry)
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is more classic to me than popular these days. I think she’s a great choice, despite her popularity. There are a handful of names that I feel lean just enough toward classic vs. trendy for me to use them. [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is a great example of this, especially if you really like the name.
For me, similar names would be [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_f]Anna[/name_f], and [name_f]Emma[/name_f]. I would use (aside from [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] due to a close personal connection) any of these despite their rankings because I like them enough and feel like they are classic/timeless enough to work. Sort of like Katherine/Elizabeth/Mary.
Personally I think [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is gorgeous she’s elegant, sweet, feminine, strong and has the lovely historical association with [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Earhart[/name_f]. I really like the nicknames [name_f]Millie[/name_f] + [name_f]Mia[/name_f] as well. I think [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] feels classic so regarding her popularity personally I wouldn’t be concerned/the popularity being a turn off. For me if both me and my partner love a name even if it’s the most popular name in the world I would use it.
I love it! I named my cat [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] seventeen years ago (in kitty heaven now), so I’m a tad biased. I called her [name_f]Mia[/name_f] mostly. But I do love just [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] just as much. To me [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is classic, smart, and boldly feminine. It has the sound of a frilly name, but the vibe is completely not frilly if that makes sense.
As far as popularity goes, I just don’t know. Obviously, for a cat it’s not a big deal. Also, it wasn’t nearly as popular in 2006. I guess it’s just a personal preference on how much it bothers you. [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is #4 on the SSA list, but I don’t think that I hear it that often in real life in my area. Basically every girl is [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]. The others that aren’t [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] are [name_u]Avery[/name_u], [name_f]Isla[/name_f] & [name_f]Adelyn[/name_f]. But not too many Amelias!
For a long time, I had thought of [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] as a kind of second-string to my preferred [name_f]Emily[/name_f], but recently it has grown on me as well. I think it’s very classic, and it’s graceful without being too frilly.
