DH and I really love the name [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] but I’m concerned it’s too similar to [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Emily[/name_f] which are really popular right now and that we will constantly have to tell people it’s not either of those, either when we say her name or when they see it written down. For instance, when my husband told this name to a nurse, she repeated back “[name_f]Emily[/name_f]?” or [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] looks so similar to [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] written down. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think this will be an issue?
I love [name_f]Amelie[/name_f]! I think -milly is just quite a common ending for names and similar to quite a few others ([name_f]Emily[/name_f], [name_f]Romilly[/name_f], [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u], [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f]) but [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] is distinct enough. It’s similar to the [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Emily[/name_f] but I don’t really think that’s the end of the world - [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] is a beautiful
and relatively familiar name and similarity to others shouldn’t scare you off it.
I adore [name_f]Amelie[/name_f]! Although… I actually pronounce it the same way as Amélie (English isn’t my first language), so it doesn’t sound like [name_f]Emily[/name_f] at all.
Yes, written down it looks similar to [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]. But it’s a variant of the same name, so of course it’ll be similar. I don’t consider it a big issue. You may need to correct people from time to time, but again, personally I don’t consider it a deal breaker. [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] is a beautiful choice.
I love [name_f]Amelie[/name_f]! It’s beautiful and I think it has a completely different feel to both [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Emily[/name_f]
I was just looking though records of [name_m]French[/name_m] Nobility, seeing [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] come up every now and again, and thinking, “It’s a wonder more people don’t use that name.” You’ll probably come across some people who get confused, but it ought to be familiar enough, especially after the movie, that most people will recognize it right away. I knew an adult named [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] and she didn’t seem to have any trouble with it.
