One of my most favorite names in the whole world. It is so beautiful!!! I love the soft S sound at the end and the way the I looks like it’s blossoming flowers.
BUT. I would hesitate to use it on my own daughter because I am afraid people may mispronounce it or pick up “@nus” =( (I’m from the US, may not be a problem where you live.)
[name_m]Hi[/name_m]! I am also American and am worried about the English pronunciation and unfortunate written similarity to that body part by my friends and family who live there.
However, I do(and will) live in Spain where the association and pronunciation are not as problematic.
I think the name is more often written as [name_f]Ana[/name_f]ís in Spanish but I prefer [name_f]Ana[/name_f]ïs, I like how you describe it as like flowers, so sweet! Thanks for your advice!
I love [name_f]Ana[/name_f]ïs. I’m not brave enough to use it because of pronunciation issues, however. If you’re not worried about that then go for it! [name_f]Ana[/name_f]ïs [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] ok but I’m not loving the flow.
I love [name_f]Ana[/name_f]ïs! It’s unique, spring-like and beautiful and I wouldn’t worry too much about the pronunciation (it’s not that hard correcting people!) or the word association.
I adore [name_f]Ana[/name_f]ïs <3 A lot of people need help pronouncing more ordinary names, and spelling is anyone’s guess these days, even with top 100 names, so I don’t think you’ll necessarily find Anaïs more troublesome than any other option.
If you’re looking for another reason to like it, Anaïs Mitchell is a wonderful musician to check out, although she pronounces her name with the stress on the second instead of the last syllable. She has a very unique and warm voice.
I kind of think Anaïs could work as a combination of Anne and Lucille, but I understand if it’s too much of a stretch for you. Anaïs Lucia is okay, but the rhythm is a little repetitive, and they have a lot of similar vowel sounds so it falls a little flat to my ears.
Other options:
Anaïs Luna
Anaïs Luca
Anaïs Liora (means ‘light’ like Lucille)
Anaïs Lucero (since you live in Spain)
I love [name_f]Ana[/name_f]ïs—definitely one of the best [name_f]Anne[/name_f]- names out there.
I’m gonna have to disagree with pps about it’s usability in the US—I went to an American public high school with an [name_f]Ana[/name_f]ïs and no one ever seemed to have much of a problem pronouncing it/I never heard any “anus” teasing. It definitely wouldn’t be a problem in Spain, although as you’ve pointed it out people would spell it [name_f]Ana[/name_f]ís a lot.
The [name_f]Ana[/name_f]ïs I knew was very alternative in style and a highly talented artist, so that’s what I associate the name with; it feels sort of Bohemian and avant-garde to me.
I like [name_f]Ana[/name_f]ïs [name_f]Lucia[/name_f], it has a very pan-European feel.
