Hello! I recently watched a video by SJ Strum (40+ of My Favourite Summer-Inspired Baby Names…) and she mentioned a name I’d never heard before: Clovelly.
It’s pronounced like you would pronounce luckily or merrily with an emphasis on Clove and then the ily sound at the end. It’s the name of a seaside village in England and the meaning is speculated as being “4 mile ravine” but it’s also similar-sounding to the rare surname “Cloverley” which translates roughly to “meadow of clovers”.
Anyway it’s so rare that it’s not even on this website but I think it sounds pretty and comes with some cute nickname options (Clove, Vell, Elly/Velly, maybe even Valley).
So what do you all think of the name Clovelly for a girl? AND, of course, what middle name would you pair it with?
for middle names I would go with something like Clovelly [name_f]Jane[/name_f], Clovelly [name_f]Mae[/name_f], Clovelly [name_f]Kate[/name_f] or Clovelly [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
Clovelly is interesting! I think I prefer just [name_f]Clove[/name_f] or [name_f]Clover[/name_f], but this alternative is very pretty and I do love the many nickname options.
For middles, I like simple cottagecore options like Clovelly [name_f]Joy[/name_f], Clovelly [name_f]Jane[/name_f], Clovelly [name_f]Alice[/name_f], Clovelly [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], and Clovelly [name_f]Agnes[/name_f].
I love the idea, rarity, and nickname potential! Although the spelling is not intuitive as I would pronounce it clove-ly instead of clove-illy
I prefer [name_f]Clover[/name_f] or Cloverly for that reason
but… if you’re willing to explain the spelling/pronunciation to people and don’t mind your daughter having to as well… it DOES sound very cute!
honestly I have a name people frequently misspelled and pronounced and it’s a simple name so I don’t think you it’s too big a deal. People that care will learn and remember it correctly!
Clovelly is pretty and I like the seaside/countryside vibes it gives. It has something playful and sweet about it, but that ‘Elly’ sound grounds it a bit! I think Cloverley is cute too!
It’s the name of a suburb where I live so I can only associate it with that, so don’t move to [name_f]Sydney[/name_f] Australia hahaha but otherwise should be fine, it has a nice sound to it!
I have visited Clovelly. A very steep hill it has! But it is an exquisite place. I think it would be lovely as a name. People have chosen [name_f]Devon[/name_f], [name_m]Paris[/name_m], [name_f]India[/name_f] etc as names, so why not Clovelly? I’d go for something nature themed with Clovelly. Clovelly [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Fern[/name_f]
[name_f]Fleur[/name_f]
[name_f]Lily[/name_f]
[name_f]Heather[/name_f]
[name_f]Rochelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f]
[name_f]Dove[/name_f] or [name_f]Paloma[/name_f] which means [name_f]Dove[/name_f]
[name_f]Wren[/name_f]
[name_f]Mavis[/name_f]
[name_m]Robin[/name_m].
are some ideas.
Interesting! I too think I prefer [name_f]Cloverley[/name_f] but both are interesting. I like something simple but not wordy, like [name_f]Cloverley[/name_f] [name_f]Camille[/name_f], [name_f]Cloverley[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_f]Cloverley[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f]?
Clovelly is adorable, but perhaps, too sweet? It’s interesting, but I prefer the simple [name_f]Clover[/name_f]. [name_f]Cloverly[/name_f] is really nice, too.
Recently, I’ve fallen in love for [name_f]Clover[/name_f] as a name. It contains the word “love”. It’s nature themed, fresh and colorful. I adore that four-leaf clovers are a symbol of good luck, faith, hope and love.
